  • i live in lacrosse Wi where nick lives

  • Not too mention, our weight training is quite effective for health. Before you want to test me on this... I weight lift every morning @6 am for 45 min. Do yoga 3 days a week. Run 6 days a week a few miles. And train at the Academy from about 3 to 9 pm mon-fri. a few hours sat. I work as personal trainer, have a very very clean vegetarian, raw fruit, raw veg. whole oats, no dairy diet. My learning on health and wellness is never ending, so please, feel free to educate me.

  • Plus, I don't know of many baguazhang masters in the midwest, so it's no surpprise that mmaists from there don't know anything about it and just believe in their weightlifting and "sports training".

  • You really dont want to battle this one with me. Athleticism matters...period. Now, just because your not born with it doesn't mean you cant learn it. But speed, explosive power, and endurance mean a lot in a fight. You can know every vulnerable point in the body, but if someones speed and power overwhelm you before you can react, its over. Take the speed of Bruce Lee and the power he could generate. If he shatters your nose before you even touch him, those vulnerable points ment nothing

  • LOL... Thats what your resulting to? Ignorance? The midwest produces some of the best athletes in the U.S. More buisness made huge have started in Minnesota then anywhere. Target, Best Buy, 3M, Supervalue...This list goes on. The twin cites has more millionaires per capita the anyplace else the U.S. Get out and see the world genius. Trust me, Ive been to NYC and LA. East and west coasts. Nothing much to offer

  • It doesn't matter how athletic you are, certain techniques with power will hurt you whether you have conditioning or not. I think you overestimate your weightlifting and totoally don't understand the power of Bagua at all. Being rich is not a something to brag about, it means that you were selfish in your life and didn't care about other people to get where you are. Chi Kung is superior to modern sports training by far. Your health is what is most important, not how many situps you can do.

  • You made a direct insult insult on the area I grew up in. I just corrected you in your mistake that nothing happens in the midwest. As a matter of fact, alot happens here. Most of your jobs have been support by us.

ME RICH...HA, I grew up in the country, waking up @ 4 am and spliting wood for our wood stove and going to Judo practice at the high school by 6 am and wrestling in a small school program. But believe it or not, many people get rich from hard work alone.

  • I totally agree with Kilik 11! Try getting on the ground in NYC and see what happens! Moashan is trained to end the fight QUICKLY and DEADLY...Not circle around with his arms up and a croutch position ready to rassle on the floor! I wish these MMA braggers with no street fighting experience would stop saying UFC is the best..ITS A SPORT PEOPLE!! Now go ahead and tell us about all the "street fights" u've had and used ground fighting and won.C'mon I know its coming.

  • Nope actually. The only time I have ever fought on the ground protecting my self was getting out from under someone after being tackled. Seeing as majority of fighters restrain from fighting in the street unless they have too, I have only had to street fight, bar fight idiots who dont last more then few good hits and its over.

  • so did the fight happen yet? Is "the bitch" just not wanting to admit what happened in Harlem to him? Harlem is where it's at, what's this midwest redneck shit anyways? It don't mean shit! NYC mutha fucka!

  • Also it is true that mma gets killed on the street. They only train to ever fight one on one. If 2 or 3 random big guys at a bar started beating on an mmaist sitting at the table, he's done. He has no idea how to even fight against 2 people. Baguazhang is designed to fight up to 8 people at one time. If your rooting can't handle a takedown from one guy, imagine 8 swarming you, you're dead if you do mma.

  • and unless you know how to stop a take down (over 85% end up on the ground) you will get taken down. How do you learn that? Wrestling. Hours and hours knowing how to sprawl. Baguazhang must spend years teaching that to you so you can keep the fight in your element. This is TMA's biggest crutch, yet I have seen many ok amateur Thai fighters beat 3-4 guys in a bar fight.

  • Bagua contains ALOT of wrestling. Both takedowns and counters. Thai boxing isn't really good for the street because the kicks are to wide, you need to be quicker and can't be swinging your legs around in a situation like that. Thai boxers fall on their ass when they throw a kick. That doesn't happen to a bagua fighter.

  • No mma fighter has ever seen anything like baguazhang and are not prepared for it. If this guy doesn't go through with his challenge he is forever a bitch

  • If some shmuck came out and wanted to play Lebron James in a game of one on one, he would laugh. Nick makes more money in one fight then Maoshan makes in a 5 years of teaching.

Look Im not a world class fighter, but I train at the same gym as Nick and fight actively. Nick is bigger and better then me. I would have no issues fighting Moashan and beating him. Nick would kill him.

  • You are talking about something you have no knowledge in. You've never encountered someone with anything like the skills of maoshan, you've never seen this style. Thompson got beat by a Judo guy in the UFC so it's insane to think he could ever stand a chance against a superior art like Baguazhang

  • It wasnt the style that beat nick. It was the fighter. And Karo is one of the best in the world at what he does. No other judo fighter has been able to show case perfect throws in MMA other the Karo. Like I said before. Maoshan wouldnt last against me, Nick would kill him.

  • You have no idea what you're talking about, you've never seen baguazhang. Yes it was the "style" that beat nick, you see, he got flipped in the air. That's what that "style" does. What you don't understand though is that Judo is totally stiff, so Tai Chi would beat Judo. Soft always beats hard and stiff, dantien always beats muscle.

  • There is no comparison between basketball and martial arts. Basketball is a mainstream thing and been around alot longer. In basketball how much money you make may mean something, butin martial arts skill and money have no correlation. A real traditional martial artist could break your back as soon as he touches you, you can't even break someone's back at all.

  • Unless you have 1,000 students lined up will for you to practice this back breaking move on them, you will never truly master it.Have you ever SEEN this done.Or do you take someones word who said that some master 500 years ago said that this would work?I have watched many Kung Fu, Aikido, Tai Chi fighters who are suppose to be legit fight and lose. Oddly enough, once beaten, all those who support them, say they were a fake, and that wasent real kung fu, or whatever.

  • No i've seen it, a master level internal martial artst can do it at will. Of course they also have control, so if you "tapped out" many would let you go free and not hurt you. You can train it without killing people. Check out the xinyi video called Li Zhensi, the one that's 2:29 minutes long, not the 1:32 one. There is REAL martial arts for you far beyond bruce lee or mma LOL!

  • This is nonsense. People who are knowledgable know who's real and who isn't. Those who don't are just bandwagon jumpers. I'm pretty sure no real internal fighter ever went into mma in this country. I doubt they pay it much attention, it's low level to them.

  • get killed on the street

  • He has a better shot at staying alive over you or Maoshan.

  • SIGH!!!! Another one whose taking some "mma" classes and thinks it could save u in the streets of brooklyn. OK. Thats ur opinon. But if mr Nick was so bad how come he doesnt go to Moashan and fight? Thats how a challenge works!

  • LOL... Im going to tell you the same thing I say to ever other Kung Fu stylist. You all idolize bruce lee. Yet he saw TMA being very flawed. Bruce cross trained, studied, changed alot and got the core of what worked. He died before his work was completed. MMA is the ever evolving end result to what bruce was working for. Irony has it. One of bruce's top students is Dan Inosanto works directly with greg nelson, who has been one of Dan's finest, OH, who trains Nick.

  • Bruce Lee was a punk ass compared to real traditional martial artists. Bruce Lee wanted to learn internal styles, but no legitimate teacher would teach him because they knew all he wanted was to become a movie star and brag.

  • and ur point is?????

  • What a meathead

  • That meat head just graduated from a top college with his degree in law while still achieving a world class status as a MMA fighter... What have you done?

  • are u kidding??? and this is the guy that wanna challenge Maoshan??

  • You do realize that Moashan has no chance at beating nick. All that internal Tai Chi, or Bagwa or what ever you want to say is good for seniors at a YMCA, but your a fool if you think its combat effective. I have seen Maoshan and his demos. He would get destroyed by a weak high school wrestler or anyone with a year of boxing training. Nick would KO him in under a minute

  • I understand that you respect Nick and want to defend his honor and thats cool. But if you really believe the internals don't work, then youre very young in the ways of combat. Maoshan and Nick are both good at what they do. If you like Nick more take a class from him.

  • I train at the MMAA, the same place nick does. I have done Tai Chi, when I was younger. Its good for many things, combat is not one of them. Its alot of smoke and mirrors. I am no foolish enough to believe that crap that the tec that is used is just too dangerous for MMA fighting. Even if you forget the money factor, more monks would be lining up to give honor for their masters and show how effective it is. finial fact is that this is about fighting. Nick would destroy Naoshan, and he knows it.

  • Wow he graduated from a College with Law degree. And has World Class status as a brawler. I"m sure people are seeking him out as a bodyguard trainer, or maybe Delta Force Hand to Hand teacher. Ignorant. Thats why bagua stylists were bodyguards to kings and queens, while mma fighters are fodder for bullets and knives. and me? Well I'm just cool.

  • You did bullshit modified tai chi, not real tai chi. Real tai chi is pure martial arts and not for seniors. That's modern altered tai chi.

  • nick thompson is a serious bad ass

    love watching him fight

  • shoot yourself

  • You are a fool. First, no one should make such a garbage claim like that from their keyboard. Second, I've watched Nick for a long time being from MN. He is a full time Law student AND a Professional MMA fighter. Two days after his Elite XC fight (7/26/08), The GOAT will take his BAR exams.

Not only that, but he is noticably honing his skills and becoming a more well rounded and solid fighter.

Save your keyboard warrior bullcrap for someone who cares... Nobody.

  • Errrr.... sounds like you care.

  • Yeah, you can go to any university campus around and it's really sad. Violent, egotistical, moronic, stupid frat boys acting like monkeys and getting drunk all the time. What's really sad is when you realize these are the future doctors and lawyers. And now a even worse example is being set, this guy actually promotes violence on television to teenagers who are already exposed to so much violence in all the media by fighting in a FRICKEN CAGE!

  • fueraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • he is the mfc champ right now

  • listening to thompson on sherdog beatdown radio right now. Having a great conversation re. bodog, state of mma, his fighting style. Well-spoken, very knowledgable. Easy to like fighter.

  • That is the truth. Not only is he a badass but he is going to law school in Minnesota. If he can't win a case with litigation at least he will be able to kick opposing counsel's ass!

  • for those of u are confused by his nickname, there are goats who role over on their back and play dead when they are frightened. Thompson's training partners apprently use to knock out Thompson all the time early in his career so they gave him the nickname The Goat.

  • I love how he got his nickname. Even tho he got it becuz he use to get knocked out alot i still think this guy is badass. Congrats to him on his win on bodog! WAR GOAT!

  • What is the name of the first song? I really need to know!

Sounds a little like Angels and Airwaves, but it isn't. Can someone provide the band name and song...either would be awesome.

    Great vid of the Goat!

  • thomps is my boy!

  • Damn I saw him in there against Neer I want to make a Josh Neer HL any chance of me getting that fight?
