Pharmacists are responsible for dispensing medicines and advising docters on courses of medication, potential side effects etc. Drug discovery is mainly conducted by Pharmacologists, Medicinal/Organic Chemists and the broad umbrella of terms that is covered by life sciences, physical chemists are also involved in design conducting research into binding modes and energetics etc through computation. Strathclyde University offers a course entitled Chemistry with Drug Discovery.
@Stadtjunky They have to know what every drug does, how it works and the other drugs it could possibly interact with - they have to be able to give advice too.
their is no degree called drug design., that you can get if that is what you are asking....
Drug design is a process, in which many experts contribute. Organic chemists, computational chemists, physical chemists, pharmacologists, molecular biologist, medical doctors........
you have to choose a specialty to be involved in drug design. additionally you will probably need a PhD in one of the fields mentioned above to get REALLY involved. Pharmacist dont contribute to drug design...they sell drugs
very interesting field and needs alot of knowledge in the organic chemistry and computers as well ,but he didn't tell us about the drug design issue .. !!

pharmacists have absolutely nothing to do with drug design, they just put tablets in boxes and hand them out to the public.
