I have to add that a new road has been added more secure and quicker, however the bike tours are still going on the old "Ruta de La Muerte" with less much car traffic.
Oh, well that makes a lot more sense. I read an article on it about a month ago where they had autos on there still (and I don't think they mentioned that on the video). I might run it---biking it is another thing.
ITS A VERY NICE ADVENTURE. HOW I WISH SOMEDAY I WILL BE GET RIDING TOGETHER W/ YOUR GROUP : ) I LOVE CYCLING ADVENTURE HERE IN PHILIPPINES ESPECIALLY IN THE MT. TRAILS. GOOD JOB...JUST CONTINOUS RIDING W/ THE BICYCLE..
I did it and it was amazing. our guide rocked and we were only 3 of us ; ) + the guide. i live in Whistler and im an avid mountain biker. and i found it quit easy. but the view and just being there was ... well u have to be there ; ) Go
Gravity commercialized the road in mid-'98 and were riding every day except Monday's from '99. During all of '98 and all of '99 we never saw any other business riding the road. We have heard claims of people saying they were the first as early as '80. The reality is that WE were the 1st to turn this ride into a real business. Just because someone else rode a few times a year with a few customers doesn't make them "first"... at anything other than NOT making a full success of this opportunity.
besamemucho5 ... don't knock it until you've tried it. Funnily enough the whole ride is on A ROAD... as such most serious mountain bikers do not consider this ride challenging enough. However for the backpacker or adventure traveler it is GREAT FUN, not at all akin to chopping ones balls off ...
i am glad i am a road biker and not a mountain biker.....if people are looking for a thrill they can always cut their balls off ......that probably be just as exciting
did this in 2001 , not sure wether this allister dude was the guide. we were in a group of 20 people , with 3 "guides" 1 in front 1 at the end and 1 in the middle of the group , anyway this road was both awesome and stupid to do... back then i was in my early 20s ...."no fear" was my moto.....i crashed on that road , was lucky to hit the cliff and not "fly" over.... but back then i really loved it .
wouldnt to it again but it was deffinetely one gr8 experience.
If I went all the way to Bolivia to ride down a road on my mountain bike. And when I got there this guy was telling me how to ride a bike. I would leave. I would drive to the cocaine producers pack my car with it drive back through arizona where there are no borders and make some friggin money. So you see too much mothering can lead to criminal activity.
know what you mean. i did this back in 2005 and while it was good fun (65km downhilll...) and id definately recommend it if you're nearby, id have to say it was reasonably tame if you ride a lot but probably quite scary if you dont ride. what really got me scared wasn't riding down the road but driving back up the "road of death" at night after a few beers in the back of a speeding dodgy old bus with lights which kept turning off - i properly shit myself then! its the buses that crash not bikes!
bwaaaa haaaa dude that is awesome, ya haven't lived until you have rode a bus or train in a third world country, And then sometimes not for much longer lol.
@loukassm dude you need to get out more, Its the most dangerous road in the world because 1, its in a shit hole country with no safety standards, the heavy equipment in any western country has safety standards to meet, there, none, so you will have vehicles literally wired together. Now with that said, do yourself a favor and do some searching on mountain biking, anyone who does so seriously will have ridden single track trails with insane drop offs.
necesitas conocer velocidad y distancia para saber que podras frenar con seguridad ademas de pericia en el manejo de una bicicleta y asi no fallar una curva y porsupuesto mucho amor al peligro.
I highly doubt that. Martins Road is what - 5km long and drops maybe 100m? Death Road (including the paved part) is 50+km long and drops 3,700m. Oh and it has cliffsides that swallow the CN Tower.
one of the best things i ve ever done, flying down the road with 500ft cliff edges right next to you, hell of a buzz

How many lives do you start with? Seems real dangerous for cars but for a good MTB ride... not so much. At least from the cam view.

Needs more dramatization. This seems like a walk in the park compared to other stuff.

I think this is pretty stupid---this road is too dangerous to have thrill seekers on it when the autos need all the room they can get
yesroh 7 months ago
@yesroh
no cars anymore dude, road is closed, its just a tourist attraction now. the paved section at the start is not the death road.

@GravityBolivia You sound like a whiny prick, you know it? Who cares about who is "first" or "second"!
Hope you just don't make the hard life of local people any tougher... that's what counts.

Tell me one thing :
You guys say that you started this business in 1999 right ?
and i know a company who started that in 1995, so, logically they're the first, nope ?

Sorry to hear you broke your record of no deaths dudes...
youre still the company I plan on doing this ride with when I get there tho.
Must have felt gut wrenching to lose a customer after so many safe years.
I guess it was just a matter of time and luck...
great video guys...
