I just noticed that he looks thinner than the latest videos. Sorry no insults but it reminds me how much times has changed. Now it's more on tablets than netbooks. I miss netbooks.....sigh...
Samsung products are generally good. However, this particular one uses a via nano processor which is not so good. Via is generations behind it's competitors. Don't expect this single core processor (that's all via has at the moment) to perform nearly as good as a core or a phenom. In fact, not even a celeron or sempron. It does not consume any less power as via advertise. A core 2 solo is nearly 50% more energy efficient at the same core speed and 90+% faster and 30% cheaper.
informative... makes me want to find his review of the performance/functions of the thing. I love the way he dismissed the rubber-cover they give you for the laptop. His English is fine... the accent makes it a little more interesting... I think so. "Vas ist los mon ami?"
Windows Vistas sucks, too many administration queries from the OS. "Are you sure you want to open this prograblem? Are you sure you want to download this software? blah blah blah fuck Vistas
what is exactly weird about that USB cable huh >.> the fast that is say 2.0? o.O you are supposed to know what it is!! 2.0 has been out for lots and lots of years
Doesn't matter if its Netbook or Laptop. I mean you are saying people will be mislead. Hmm when i buy something like this, i look at the product and make my own conclusions. Minipcpro has given his opinon and its not written in stone. No one forces you to buy this product. I am looking into buying this or the NC10. I want something small and portable, but i also want something with a good res so i dont have to squint my eyes everytime. So on this, i think i will go with the NC20.
It realy is unfortunate that AMD hasn't entered this processor market yet, its really turning out to be a big cash cow. That said, I'm glad Intel is at least getting some competition from Via's Nano.
dang im still waiting for nvidia to get crackin on those ion's they promised so that graphics are 5x faster and netbooks will still be small and will run full HD
Tomorrow I shall hopefully receive the Samsung NC20 in white - I'd just like to thank you for this video as it was very helpful in choosing a notebook! Cheers!
Hi how looks power adapter? Can I use it in Europe, in Czech? You've got it from Korea? I found only place where I can bough it from England, they have different sockets aren't they?
I have a desktop and i'm thinking in getting a small laptop(just for office, web, some small work in photoshoo, dreamewaver and flash) without paying to much for it. The nc20 seems perfect, am i right?
Also i need to know if the photoshop cs2 or cs3 runs ok, can you tell me?
Believe me, in 2009 more and more 12" Netbooks will come out and replace current mainstream 10" netbooks. Dell, Asus, Samsung, and now Lenovo joins the 12" netbook competition. The whole market trend migrates from the first 7" EEEPC to 8.9", 10.1", 12" for just 9 months! Maybe the 10" limitation is made by the chip vendor Intel but, not all companies are their puppy dogs.
pretty much the same time as on the nc10. keep in mind that these devices are sporting different HDDs. While the NC10 comes with Hitachi or Fujitsu drives, the NC20 sports a Samsung HDD, which i would definately prefer.
Hello. Great review. I had a question, is the power cable black or white? I want to buy a white Samsung NC20 or NC10, and I was wondering if it came with a white power cord. Thanks.
what is the definition of a netbook anyways? i can tell you that the nc20 sports a netbook hardware platform and of course i have to compare it to the NC10. If this is a laptop, do you want me to compare it to a $3000 17" screen laptop or what? I think the price and the hardware platform makes it a netbook and not a laptop
It would depend on the size, weight, and, yes, the price of the overall system. Price does matter, but cheapness alone does not a netbook make. Netbooks are mobile computers that are cheap and small. The NC20 is not small -- and not very cheap, either.
ok, so it's not only the size but also the price. Still waiting for your definition of a netbook though ;) For me, it's a matter of the hardware platform. This NC20 is using netbook hardware and i think we should just get rid of these limitations the marketing offices try to teach us. So what is your price and size limit for a netbook?
why do i owe you a definition of a netbook? I say the nc20 isn't a netbook, you say it is. Maybe I'm waiting for your definition ;)
Besides, it's false that the NC20 is, as you say, using netbook hardware. It's using some -- like the atom. Other hardware -- like the 12" screen and badonkadonk chassis -- are not netbook hardware, they're laptop hardware.
If you think it's only the cpu that makes a netbook, then I guess I could stuff an atom into my old Apple II and have a giant netbook, eh?
interesting. I am trying to ask you a question for about 5 million times and you just can't answer it :) so for you it's a matter of size and due to this a 12.1 inch Display is not netbook hardware. Ok i got that.. kinda blurry definition but ok.. call it Netbook, call it Notebook, call it whatever.. i just don't care :) It's a cool system.
By the way a netbook is 9 years old platform and was manufactured by Psion. Your call! :p
i can't answer your question because you're asking for a more precise definition than I've bothered to formulate. Why would I come up with a precise size and weight for what counts as a netbook? You think a netbook is about hardware -- do you have a precise definition of what hardware does and doesn't count as a netbook?
I know about Psion's older use of the term.
The NC20 might be a cool system, but someone looking for a cool netbook might feel misled if they bought it. I would.
of course i have a prevcise definition of netbook hardware platforms ;) and the nc20 is using netbook hardware or do you wan't me to compare the VIA Nano to a quadcore? How can you be misled with the NC20? I can tell you for sure, that they won't sell it with confusing specs. If you can read specs, you will know what you get ;)
It's misleading because most people are like me: they expect that netbook=small and lightweight. The NC10 is a netbook, and there are people like you running around calling the NC20 a netbook; so customer who associate netbook with 'small and lightweight' will be misled.
as i said. everyone can read the specs and try it out and of course you can watch my videos and read my articles and you will know what it's all about.
For me, real netbooks are starting at a screensize of 7" and they are sporting Intel Atom (Diamondville and Silverthorne) VIA C7-M and Nano. ARM will enter this market also. It has to be inexpensive, like sub $600! thats all
That's all? So my EeePC 4G is not a netbook? It has a celeron. Your definition is messed up.
Of course someone picking it up in the store will not be misled by the size. A consumer who has the common understanding of netbooks, and who perhaps has even seen an NC10, will be misled unless she takes care to check and make sure the NC20 didn't gain several inches and a pound on its predecessor. Surprise: it has.
the Celeron M devices (which are only used by ASUS for the Eee PC) are just not getting produced anymore for the netbook market. they are only selling what is left on stock. I have to look what is going on the market right now and what will be in the future, otherwise i will bring Psion into the game again :p . btw. i have 2 Celeron-M Eee PCs, too as you can tell, when you watch my videos. ;)
So is there really any point purchasing this netbook over the NC10??are there any major improvements or differences?? i thought the nc20 has the ability to accept a mobile phone sim card for 3g internet access??
I am actually happy that I ddin't wait for this nc20. It's a little on the hefty side to carry aronud. It's lighter and smaller than traditional 14.1 and 15.4 laptops, but it's still doesn't confer the portability of 10 inch netbooks.
I love your first looks/ unboxing/ review videos. Your level of enthusiasm in these videos are unmatched!!! Very interesting to watch. Keep making those videos.
hey i like all your reviews- what was the price? and have you played any 720p or 1080 p video like from hulu? the ukrainian website says it plays them with less than 80 percent cpu usage- but i am waiting for your review on this subject
720p or 1080p is not an issue at all but i am also aware of these ukranian websites cause the menlow platform from Intel also had problems with flash hd. Gimme some 24 more hours. I am finishing my benchmarks now, running the battery test in the background (expect some 15% less battery life compared to the NC10. Both are sporting the same battery) and getting ready to finalize the review
1280 x 800 is an upgrade, but the whole idea of a netbook was basic, cheap and light.
I was waiting to see what they would come out with. I think I am going with the NC10, despite the slower processor. It's lighter and easier on my budget.
Thank you for posting this excellent unboxing video. It was a very clear and decently thorough look at this new machine in a short amount of time. I'm looking forward to reading the full review!
I just noticed that he looks thinner than the latest videos. Sorry no insults but it reminds me how much times has changed. Now it's more on tablets than netbooks. I miss netbooks.....sigh...

From what I can see, the only things I dislike is the glossy screen.
I would really like to know if it feels more like a 13 inch notebook or a 10 inch netbook, and if it's heavy: 4-5 lbs?
hmoob7 2 years ago
compared to my Dell Inspiron 700m (also a 12.1) it is really light. I think it's only 200gramm heavier then the NC10
minipcpro 2 years ago

hey i like all your reviews- what was the price? and have you played any 720p or 1080 p video like from hulu? the ukrainian website says it plays them with less than 80 percent cpu usage- but i am waiting for your review on this subject
thanks

720p or 1080p is not an issue at all but i am also aware of these ukranian websites cause the menlow platform from Intel also had problems with flash hd. Gimme some 24 more hours. I am finishing my benchmarks now, running the battery test in the background (expect some 15% less battery life compared to the NC10. Both are sporting the same battery) and getting ready to finalize the review

forgot the price...
400 british pound in the UK
499 Euro in Germany... which is kinda weird cause the Euro and the Pound are almost the same. It has to be below $600 to be competitive imho

The intro and accent remind me of Sprockets.
