I really like watching this video. I do lots of crocheting but I never knew how to do the Granny square. I didn't even need to watch all of the video to know how to do it! Thanks for posting this. I love watching all of your videos . Please keep posting more! :)
once you make it around to the end of the square each time, do you use a slip stitch close and start again or do you just keep on doing three stitches in every hole?
Very good video explanation! Only question is, wouldn't it be easier to teach someone by using same terms as in a pattern? For example: "chain two," "double crochet," "slip stitch," "yarn over," etc.? I noticed many videos do not use the real terms, just common everyday language. It may be easier for some beginners to follow a pattern afterwards if they knew the terms from the beginning. Just a thought! :-) (Maybe even if it was just in subtitles!)
do you have to join the squares together individually, or can you just crochet around and around to make a blanket or both cuz im going around and around it looks good though..:)
@missladytenaj26 actually you are doing something called " the never ending granny square" you go around and around til you get to the size you want!!!!! if you look up never ending granny square blanket there are a couple of different styles and patterns even how to change colors to make an awesome spiral effect!!!!
thank you, thank you!! it's to easy!! i don't speak to much english but i love crochet and i learn with you! well i have a question for you, i can make a blanquet in one piece of crochet-granny squere?thanks!
@13141508si hi from mikeyssmail helpdesk.......there is a video on you tube on how to make a one piece blanket with the granny square pattern idea to it........if you search for " the never ending granny square blanket" on you tube by mikeyssmail i think that will be what your looking for!!!!
Thank you so much for this video! My granny Square is looking ok of course as you know for first timers it aint gonna look perfect but I think the farther I've gotten the better it looked! So thank you for this video and I will come beck to it for further visualations!
This is really good...I just get confused with the holes; could you please go slower when it comes to the correct hole...:) I am new at this but REALLY want to learn and you have the best videos on heree !
Thanks you for the videos! I'm teaching myself to crochet (as of yesterday xD) and your vids are perfect! Now I can make a cosy blanket :) You're awesome.
You know? You move too fast for begginers. You don't use the proper teminoligy, which confuses your viwers. You need to slow down and give the viewers time to learn as you go....Maybe that's why your lover left you and took his son with him!!! Slow the hell down!!!
Thanks! So useful! My blanket is coming along nicely now. By the way your baby high tops are AMAZING! Not sure how to make some for newborns....maybe i';; just wait until he has grown up a little bit.
I know how to make a basic granny square and a couple of other things but do not know how to read crochet patterns. Do you have any suggestions or videos of how to do any of these squares? I think I could pretty much wing joining them together but I wouldn't know where to start with some of the squares. By the way, your video is really clear and easy to follow, much more simple than my grandmothers explanations!
thanks so much i have never ever done granny squares before and this video helped me to change colors for the very first time :0 its awesome to see a guy crocheting
i do have a queston: do you have a pattern you coulkd teach using a zig-zag pattern? i seen one and it was gorgeous. i have seen it in books but i am a hands on learner and get too frustrated to even try to read a pattern. thank you mike!
i wanted to thank you on your clear and presisce instructions. I have always had to have someone start me a square for a large square blanket. i have several godchildren on the way and this has always been my favorite way to welcome them warmly to the world. Crochet is a very calming and relaxing activity and has helped me also learn to manage my stress because if you have to concentrate on it- yoiu somewhat place the anxiety on the backburner. you are a wonderful teacher here on youtube.
Dear Mikeys, Thank you so much for your kind words and quick response. You are spoiling me as I usually do not receive such timely answers!!! Thanks again!!!!
I appreciate this video but have a quick question. If you don't knot or tie off the color changes does the round eventually unravel? I have been tying nd cutting for years but do not like the little "stubbles" it leaves behind:-( Thank you!
That's the misconception about Crochet. If you were to accidentally let your hook fall out, it would unravel, but because you are changing colours just like I showed you, it tightens on itself if he tries to unravel. It's not impossible, but a lot of force is needed. Secret is to leave about 3 inches of length that you can blend in so it traps it into position. :) MKL
yeah i agree :P Im from australia and i just realised that a lot of the posts are american. the spelling difference makes em harder to find :P great video :) straight to the point, clear -visually and verbally :P Thanks for all your help!
I have made my dish cloths and now onto a granny square. Thanks so much for helping me perfect my technique. You should really put out videos you are great. I have crocheted for awhile now and you have helped me see things i hadnt before.
When you finish a color and drop the yarn, how do you pick up the color again. If you are alternating colors and want to go back to the original color. Is it better to just tie off after you finish each color or is there a way to pick the original color back up?
We never want to tie off strings if we can avoid it. If you drop the colour completely, than you will want to finish it off properly. I have a video on that... I will find it for you
Depends on the yarn. You can use different sized hooks than suggested, but it wouldn't turn out as nicely and it may have problems staying on the hook. If the yarn suggests K, I or L isn't going to kill you, but I definitely wouldn't go for a C. Just go out and buy the appropriate size, hooks are like 2 or 3 dollars. :)
Hmmmmm.... maybe I could use Granny Squars for feet for my dollie's shoes..... hmmmm. ;) Then change colors for her socks. Sounds like it'll work... :) :) :) Thanx mikeysmail!
I was wondering if you had written instructions for this project. I am one of those people who need to read the written instructions to understand it. If not, could you point me in the direction of some written instructions?
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I tried to get this from two other videos, but I kept missing something. I actually did it right this time! Great video.
