  • great idea for scale projects

  • Why did you kill a perfect piece of machinery art?

  • For once a cox engine that doesn't cover you with castor oil.

  • @rickcain2320 lol, yup, first time ever

  • you ruined it!

  • That is simply neat. I have fought those pesky little motors and getting them started is such a chore, then to see an outrunner installed neatly inside the f tank is awsome. Bet you don't get slamed in the fingers by the engine kicking back. The new outrunners are so powerful.

  • Adjustable RPM is imperative for greasing landings. Cox obviously never thought of that!

  • @FourDollaRacing Yes, they did. They made RC throttles for the .020, .049, .051, and .09 engines. They worked very well too, I might add.

  • @MullaneyRC Hmmmmmm.......I was referring to the .010. Now that you've pointed-outed the standard sizes available, I wonder what "0,8cmm" means, in the title.

  • @FourDollaRacing There are a few homemade .010 throttles around, but they never went into production because radio equipment was too big for an RC model that small at the time.

0.8 cubic centimeters (ccm) is the same as .049 cubic inch.

  • @MullaneyRC After venturing into free flight, this past summer, I won't always need a throttle. Would blow away the old timers with a brushless/scale setup like in the video. So, no need for the other posters to fuss. The free flight guys will jetison their carb and muffler, and fly RC engines wide-open. Same stuff...different engine.

  • this is awsome

  • Now let's see an electric motor that's actually a disguised Wankel rotary...

  • it should stay fairly cool because of the huge freakin fan attatched to the front of the motor. is the power any better from brushless? my guess is that it would be more powerful. although i'm not an expert on cox. (ha,ha)

  • @losipoop Cox motors will turn a 6x4 prop around 12-19k rpm depending on what configuration (cylinder type, piston, intake, etc), wear, fuel, air temp and a number of other conditions. I like using Sig 25% nitro and a 5.5 x 4 props as you get more speed out of them. A electric system will weigh 1.5 to 2 times what a IC engine weighs for the same amount of power. The advantage to electric is that there are significantly less vibrations and you can build your model lighter. Just my $.02

  • Have to agree, sacrilege. Electric, nah, these beautiful engines have soul, rpm and NITROMETHANE.

  • I'm guessing this was just a fun little side project, as it's totally useless otherwise. I mean, it'd give electric flight sound, which is great, but it also wastes a buttload of battery power due to the engine's compression/resistance. as has been said, there's no ventilation for the hidden motor & it's also added weight.

  • @Tinytacohead No compression, the piston is removed.

  • @peckerwood57 oh, haha. seems even more pointless then. kinda neat though. :) but still dead weight & inadequate cooling.

  • No cooling that I see. It'll burn up.

  • @peckerwood57 The entire engine is a heatsink! More cooling than most electric motors. PeckerHead...

  • @FourDollaRacing Heatsink your ass. The only ventilation is through those little exhaust ports. You don't enclose a motor in a metal box and expect it to stay cool.

  • @peckerwood57 All metals exhibit a property called thermal conductivity: some more than others. Aluminum is an especially good thermal conductor (heat sink); however, heat is also transferred through copper windings, carbon brushes, and even steel mounting bolts. And, the large surface area of the metal engine is entirely ventilated.

  • Hooray for added weight.

  • Geez people, it's just an engine, not a living thing.

  • A sheep in sheep´s clothing. I like it!

  • but why?!?

  • @OY8716 more, reliable power.

  • Love the Cox engines . Grew up with them in the 50s and 60s. I can't fault the guy for this conversion. Kind of cool They built millions of these engines over fifty + years. Parts are still available at . coxengines.ca/

  • Why? Warum? Was soll das? Es macht kein Sinn - so ein schoenes Motorchen zu zerstoeren. Vandal.

  • That is truly stupid, and you are too, baby bee killer

  • I think the brushless motor should overheat in minutes of use since the 0.049 casing doesn't provide ventilation.

  • that is possibly the biggest waste of a perfectly good engine ive ever seen. whats the point? u can just have that brushless motor seperate and the engine seriously

  • WASTE!!!

  • i am still willing to kill him for all of you

you murderer you killed that poor engine

  • i agree... waste of a motor, but still actually kinda cool and funny!

  • i like it. way cleaner running, fine control, looks and sounds good. why b hatin?

  • @UBERKron duede they don't make these anymore!

  • the cox is better

  • Sheesh drnegolics..... don't be so flippin sanctimonious... how many zillions of these things did they pump out ? Well done I say !!!

  • @grayngreen its a waste of a perfectly good engine it deserves more respect than that

  • brilliant! just what I need to take to my electric only club - panic a few people LOL. well done!

  • Unfortunately, you will have to do without the smell ;-)

  • Hehe this is cool

clean brushlesspower but coxengine sound XD

  • whats the point of that, just put a light plastic casing around the brushless and u got a light efficient motor.

  • what the fuck is the point?

  • how do you control heat? i didn't see any air vents in the dummy housing.

  • aaaah! How dare could you do this!

    However, nice mod

  • Sacrilege !

  • Needless

  • No motor cooling whatsoever, super.

  • i know people hate you for this but i think it is sort of a great idea im just wondering would it be possible to use that starter motor to power the electronics like an alternator and is it also possible to restart the engine mid flight?

  • i l,ike your idea

it is posible (alternator starting i dunno)

  • yeah it would be pretty good because then all your electronics would be almost independent from batteries

  • i will try it out.... (i has more than 1 0.49)

and soon i will have a cox 049 pee wee boat

if i get the alternator to work it will go on the boat..

  • the alternator is the starter and vice-versa and is coupled by a gear installed behind the prop and is controlled by a special circuit

  • you freaking killer

i hate you you wachted a nice cox engine.

you killed 1 more and the brand is already gone.

  • You could give me the reference of Brushless thank you...

  • Génial... fallait y penser...on peut voler avec un Cox sans faire de bruit...?

    QUESTION:

    C'est quoi comme BRUSHLESS....Réf:n°

  • hey !@#$%^ you can now control the throttle

  • estupidos como arruinan una pieza de coleccion rebajandolo a motor electrico

  • Cox does not exist any more, so once a glow head burns out, putting a brushless electric motor in is the only way to save the motor!

  • wrong,,,go to ebay and get whatever part you need

  • place a adapter in it

you can use the glow plugs of new engines.

  • um... this is electric

  • i am dutch we call many model stuf the same and many stuff diverent.

  • Drill and tap the head for common glo-plug.

  • that was what i mean

  • Don't know why everyone's being so hard on you "wasting an engine." Could be one that didn't run anymore...Anyway, I thought this was really could and could throw some guys off at the flying field. 5 stars.

  • if it didnt go let it rest in peace!

  • Poor COX had a cardiac?

    Is this a pacemaker?

  • ...or you could have left it the way it was.

  • what a waste of a fine machined tiny little motor

  • Yep, he's taken one of the best model engines there is and insulted it by sticking an electric motor inside.

  • @DRNEGOLICIS agreed

  • waste of a motor.

  • Crazy and original...

  • hola mira mis videos

Hello sight my videos and leaves your opinion...

  • wast of a good engine atlest its still usable

  • What's the RPM, top end, and the prop size and brand?

  • Hi, this is an old prop from GRAUPNER - Super Nylon 6 x 4.

    The RPM is 9050.

  • Very phunny, original and hidden. Why did Cox stop making their engines? I stocked up on three of them last summer. I still have one .09 Cox Tee Dee I bought in November of 1978, which has not been run yet.

  • That's goofy. At least now it has a throttle control.

  • u can have thottle control on an 049 i put a carb from a picco .06 on it and it runs amazing
