This is great, my wife has been hinting around that she would like a few things like this for work in the garden this spring and summer, even threatening to buy some commercially made hods. Thanks for posting this so I can let her know I have an idea where to begin!
Lovely trug! While I have seen garden trugs sold here in the U.S., I have never seen any craftfolk actually making them. Do you know of any books that show in detail how to make them?
I have not seen any books on the subject - but then again I have not really looked for any. The way I learned was by observation. If you have seen them being sold somewhere I would suggest you take a long hard look at how each component part is made and take some measurements, maybe supported by some sketches or photos. That is my best advice. Good Luck.
Loved the Video! Loved the trug. I will have to have a go at making one!

Ash is perfectly OK to use for the handle and rim.

Do you think ash might work for this or would it split too easily?

Beautiful trug basket.......probably my favourite. Steaming the wood similar to our canoe ribs. Always such an inspiration. Chi miigwetch

Lovely clip - just the sounds of the splitting wood and the drawknife. A pleasure to watch, and a beautiful and useful object at the end of it.

very nice, boy that is one sharp drawknife. I enjoy your work. Pat

For me personally I make my trugs & other woody things during the autumn & winter months. It realy depends on the circumstances.
