I still get teary eyed seeing Marin fly by. The first time I beat the game, way back when I was 12, I didn't get the perfect ending and was so mad at Nintendo for having the balls to wipe out the entire island. Then on my second play-through I got the perfect ending and was completely delighted to see that Marin got her wish :) She's still one of my favorite Zelda characters all these years later!
Am I the only one that gets confused at those endings where everything seemed to be a dream, and then a character or something that happened during that adventure pops up? It happened here, and in Phantom Hourglass.
So, the GOOD ending is where Link wakes up on a raft in the middle of the ocean, only to realize that all of that work and all of his new friends (Malon D:) have vanished, possibly due to a bad acid trip. As the narcotics wear off, Link sees a sky whale flying off into the distance. Now he is going to starve to death, lost at sea. Horay!
This is the weirdest ending to any Nintendo game, ever.
I've heard and read about an alternate ending of this game (if you don't die). They say that at that ending you can see "Marin" as a seagull... and I've looked and looked for it (and found it), but for me... it's the same...
@CHantHi3 It's a reference to her sentence "If I were a seagull". It could have been the wish she "told" the Windfish at the egg that she never was able to tell you because of Tarin's sudden appearance. However, the DX version is more popular and I guess you read about the Link's Awakening DX perfect ending where she actually becomes a seagull. Seriously.. it's the only reason why I don't like DX and prefer the original. Here she becomes some kind of angel and this makes the ending a lot happier
@SuperMarioHero dont know if you already know since you posted this comment a year ago but nintendo's new handheld the 3DS is going to have a virtual console for Gameboy and Gameboy Color games =)
I remember beating this game... It was great! but I think all zelda games are linked together some how or another, and to my theory if all of the zelda games are linked, then the whale here could possibly be the sea king from phantom hourglass...
Ikr! Actually, when I beat Phantom Hourglass, I remembered that whale. Now I think that Phantom Hourglass is a continuing of Link's Awakening! I don't care if Tetra wasn't in the Link's Awakening. Or maybe, Link's Awakening is linked to Windwaker which is linked to Phantom Hourglass! But hey, that's just me...
@xfullmetal100 Haven't the creators of the LoZ series already confirmed all games are linked and OoT is the first one (At the moment... Skyward Sword comes before it) chronologically?
@xfullmetal100 actually ur theory is correct all the zelda games are connected in some way. some actually refer to events that happened in previous games id say that the zelda games are placed bout 100-300 years apart sometimes
Same my first zelda game, I have to say I cried at the ending when the dream land and all the people vanished, but happy that link will forever remember them and come back to his world (Gosh that sounds cheesy) The dream fish was in the phantom hourglass too.....
MAN this brings back good memories of when games were amazing and everything was 'new' to us so we savored every experience with gaming, unlike now when games don't have that impact.
marin turned into a seagull, at the end, I cried like a water tap.

technically marin got her wish... she wished to be like a seagull and fly as far as she could to see the world and sing her song....
this is my favorite zelda game

It's funny that, as minimalistic as the game is, it still somehow has one of the most moving storylines.

So Marin did not disappeared after awakening? That nice...but why Nintendo turn her to seagull in DX version?

Should I had woken up from this dream, I think I would be too weak to not kill myself.

I just bought the game and it just take me 7 hours finish it, but is, like all the zelda games, great

I loved this game, the characters made you really fall in love with them and the ending was really sad IMO.

Is Marin 2:29 - 2:33?
Is that the seagull reference?

@CHantHi3 Oh wait, you mean 2:29 - 2:33
I was talking about 5:28 - 5:37 lol
However, as I said: In the DX version she becomes a seagull at the end, here she gets wings.
SlyGamer1000 10 months ago
ummm what is with the credits? They seem kinda messed up.

This game was one of the few things I got from my grandmother before she died of cancer.
That was long time ago though, if the cartridge hadn't stopped working I'd probably be playing it right now.
Such a great game.
Thanks for posting this, it's been a long time since I've seen the original non-DX LA ending.
I see you got the perfect ending! :)
