If you crank it to the point of distortion, it gets distorted. But seriously, it will respond the same way as a tube head. How does it sound? Great! :-)
I want to know how much the cabinet has to do with it. Can you also test the EQs not to put all at noon, by try to matching the EQ of each. I'm assuming the VT knobs aren't the same as the SVT values. Good demo though.
Each is set flat because we wanted to show the comparison as "apples to apples." Both heads are going through the same cabinets (just the grills are different), again to do a fair comparison.
Very interesting demo. Thanks for making it. The Ampeg seems to have a more neutral tone that I predict would sound better at higher volumes. The Tech21 seems to have a low frequency bump that I predict would sound more pleasing at lower volume. I wonder if the Tech21 could be made to sound more like the Ampeg if the 'bass' knob was dialed back.
what would happen if you crank to the point of distortion? how does it sound?

Bring back the Landmark 600! The 300 is cool, but I need more power for my higher end cabinets! I already own a LM 600, but I need another!

The Tech 21 sounds fatter, better. The SVT sounds thinner but weighs slot more and costs a fortune to retube.

the SVT is a bit clearer in the midrange, but the VT bass has a fatter bottom end.

SVT owns, more mid growl

See now do people believe that we can get an ampegish sound from a little Sansamp pedal or rackmount ?
Im using the RBI & RPM connected as one into a massive poweramp & i gotta say i love the sound.

Wow... the Tech 21 VT Bass is much richer and fuller! Never was an Ampeg fan... Over rated in my opinion!

+1 to the svt.
That little brightness difference makes or brakes the sound in bandcontext.

@zarigunn that's what the treble knob is for

@Tech21nyc understood. And it was an informative demo. Just wondering how well the Tech21 can emulate the SVT...
