Man if that doesnt ignite the fire and send chills throughout your body, I dont know what will! How great and amazing our God is! Best version I ever heard!!
We had this shown to us in church this morning - it was amazing and insightful and Amazing Grace will have even more depth to it now when I hear it - it remains my favourite hymn of all times and with good reason - doesn't remind us all of "there but for the Grace of God go I" - we need to show his Grace to those around us.
The real lesson here is how to sing with passion. I've got a dozen versions of this song sung by professionals with beautiful voices. None come close to the power of Mr. Phipps to make me cry every time I hear it. Passion is everything!
@sebastianschering He did not say any song... Power and pathos is the energy and emotion associated with negro spiritual songs. He was explaining how both these qualities were developed through the pentatonic scale or the 5 notes.
Watching David and Guy at 7:34 who are professional singers themselves look totally at awe listening and watching Wintley sing this song. Awesome voice.
@TheLightedDarkness That image has been burned in your mind by the media, movies, and America. Racism is alive and well in our country. It remains the 25,000 pound Elephant in the middle of the room that no one wants to admit or deal with. I'm not saying America is racist. I'm saying racism is in this country and remains like a cancer. If we continue to live with it it will kills us. But you also have to look into your heart because if that's what you felt then you ask yourself: "am I racist"?
@SwingItLikeMoe It has. I know it has. I find it funny, although I don't mean to be racist, nor am I socially or otherwise. I just sometimes think racist, but I rarely speak it out.
I'm Dutch by the way, although TV is the same crap all around the world.
I find it rather sad that statistics say that about 60% of ''African-Americans'' are in jail.
I wish more were like these, and know what they've been through more.
I recently watched the movie ''Amazing Grace'', it did open a door for me.
@TheLightedDarkness There's hope for you yet LD, lol. What's more staggering is that there are more African Americans in jail than in College. When I was in college, I was the only African American male in most of my classes. I felt like an endangered species, lol.
WOW! People, just enjoy this song and the blessing and talent Wintley Phipps is giving, and forget Obama. He'll be gone in a few short months anyway.
I'm absolutely in shock... I mean, the energy of this... Absolutely unbelievable. People who shared that moment, that were on that room listening to all that, boy, those are some lucky ones.
@VeraZlugia What makes it a great song is that it teaches humility, hope, forgiveness and redemption. It is the hope of every Christian and it is very much religious. The fact that even ateists can relate to the song is an indication of how important the message of salvation is to every human. Amazing Grace can reach you where ever you are. You need not be saved to feel the joy that trusting in God's redemptive power can bring.
@promnite74 Of course he can be athiest. I grew up believing in no God but before attempting to commit suicide I prayed my one and only prayer addresssed to whom ever was the real source of life asking him not to hold suicide against me because I saw it as the only solution. I still remained athiest for a while after that experience. But what stopped me gave me hope. I'm sure the message of hope and forgiveness in the song is what makes him happy.
..be honest, when you speak about politics that will help those less fortunate than you or different than you....don't forget we are all immigrants and we are all brothers and sisters.
do not loose perspective that...when you snicker at the ignorant bumper sticker "Obama isn't my President" then check you hypocrisy and weigh it against the realization that we all are fathers, brothers, sisters, mothers, sons and daughters. To help one of us is to help all of us....you included.
@jimcalton It would be nice if Obama believed in what you said... actions speak louder than words... brother, and if our faith is in men then we really have no hope.... My faith is no longer with-in the political world but in my Lord Jesus Christ. God Bless...
@3chicspolitico Yes friend, my heart is clean, I give Him my heart every morning and ask Him to keep it, for if I have it I will not function... Proverbs 23:26. And no I don't know Obama's heart but I see his actions, and that's enough to know my faith isn't in him or any of the political parties or people.
When I hear this video, i wonder if there is a dry eye in the place after he's done singing... awesome message...
I'm so sorry you cannot see that President Obama is one of the best this country has ever seen. Like I stated..ask God to search your heart. What will it cost you to do that?
@3chicspolitico Your not listening brother, and I'll end it at this; again, get your eyes off of man and keep the fixed on Jesus, He is the ONLY ONE who will never dissapoint you. And that's a promise... you couldn't of read Proverbs 23:26?? God bless brother.
this song makes me a believer

Humans can be, simply, truly amazing. The only true divine power is the one that lies within each one of us.

Oh dear it's not about faith, it's about spirit. God created all His creatures amazing & extraordinary.
This is absolute definition of the creator
" He is God, the One! God, the eternally Besought of all! , He begetteth not nor was begotten. And there is none comparable unto Him. "
Amen

When he first did the humming part, my thoughts went kind of racist.
Is that a bad thing?
I was imagining him having eaten KFC and then humming like this.
