I just had to go back and watch this video since I'm building one of my own later on. How did you afford an 8-core processor?? Lol. I heard 6-Cores from Intel cost around 1K but 8 cores?
It seems like you're just investing in obsolete tech. DDR2? And RAM shouldn't be too expensive right now. I just got 16gb for 80$ so its pretty cheap. I'd watch your video as long as it isn't just text on the screen ;)
@invisghosty As ive said previously, the RAM is fully buffered, and is $600 for 16GB's. My board doesnt support anything else. Im not able to build or purchase a new system right now, so ill keep using what I have which works just fine for what I do.
I dont have a video camera, so the only thing I could display was images.
@invisghosty Oh ok lol.. Nah, I would never just have text on the screen. Any time I make a tutorial, or training series, I will be narrating it, like I do with all my other tutorials. :)
ahh, good old skulltrail. Still alive and kickin with the best of them. glad to see its still treating you well. still not a fan of the case though, lol. Didn't know you had a 1KW power supply in there. finally upgraded to one myself.
Question: if the board supported non-ECC ram, would you go for it instead? I never really noticed a difference between ecc and non-ecc ram.
@Remoth000 Yep, it was a great machine for its time, and still isnt all that bad by todays standards. The case is ok in my opinion. It could probably do with some changing, but this case design is roughly 4 years old. I dont know if they've changed it since then.
Oh yes! If the board supported non-ECC, I would have picked that up instead. I was wanting to put 16GB's in there, but im not going to pay $600 for it. lol
@ShepperdOneill kinda funny how for less than the price of one QX9775, you can get a new intel 2011 processor (which out-performs skulltrail), a top-end mobo, and 32 gb of ram for it, haha. crazy technology and your short life-spans....
yah, there is some really nice cases out there now. not just looks, but features have really taken off. your motherboard is an E-ATX form factor, so a Full-tower case for sure. silverstone raven, HAF X, and NZXT phantom come to mind. check em out if you want.
Not sure what your budget was, but as long as you were throwing in upgrades, I would have sprung for a medium SSD just for boot up and programs like AE or photoshop since they have pretty long start up times.
@Beachyboy9966 I wasnt really worried about an SSD right now. They're way too expensive, and im not concerned with start up times. AE and PS only take 6 seconds to load for me, and the machine boots up in about 50 seconds, so until the price of SSD's come down, ill stick with my regular HDD's. And yes, the price of ECC Fully Buffered RAM is ridiculous! 16GB's is $600!!
@ShepperdOneill lol, 32GB of Desktop Ram is like half that price these days! SSD's are awesome, but you've hit the nail right on the head, although prices have dropped substantially, they just arent all the way there yet. People still love picking up a small one for programs.
@Sh1zn3t The two CPU's I have are the best that the board will support. I cant go any higher. The CPU's are roughly $1500 each. You're right about the 560Ti. Its a really nice card.
I so want this computer. :D too bad I only have a CPU and 3 gigs of RAM. so In order to get my own PC I have to buy one all by myself since my family won't let me. D:
Does C4D support GPU rendering? Anyways, nice set-up! Always looking forward to seeing more of your tutorials. I want to get more into modeling, but my time does not allow me to, and money and equipment.
@alex20productions Perhaps, but then every machine would need to have a capable GPU, and if you have 10 machines on a renderfarm, then you will need 10 capable GPU's. Just more money to spend. lol :)
Also this isn't a reply cause youtube likes to give me an error when I do a reply when I'm on my phone. ._. But what's your cinebench score? I get a 7.0 with my 2500k but I imagine you can get a 10-11.

alex20productions 2 months ago
@alex20productions No. C4D does not support GPU rendering. Right now the GPU is only used for viewport playback and shading.
ShepperdOneill 2 months ago
@ShepperdOneill Oh. Would make rendering much less of a hassle though if it did lol

how was your 8gb ram expensive?
I have 16gb of 1600mhz vengeance for $90. And why didn't you get a 448 core D:
cinemaGFX 2 months ago
@cinemaGFX Because my board only supports fully buffered RAM (FBDIMM) and 8GB's of DDR2 800 is $300.
The 560ti was a gift. I was originally going to buy a GTX 570, but I was given the 560 instead.
