Broderick is good in his own right. But this is Jason Becker. He is a musician guitar composer extraordinaire. Those who know his music knows his innovative approach to composition. Musical genius.
@DillonBerkley I won't say it's not impressive, but it's not interesting. It isn't memorable. His songs are. And don't get me wrong, I'm a massive fan of Becker.

Jason Becker is man of peace. Marty and Jason are both brilliant in tgere one ways, amd combined that makes a atom bomb. They're friends, everybody who likes Jason or Marty are friends.
stop comparing guitarists with each man, every famous guitarist have there own style and also stop with bullshit this guitarist vs, this guitarist fukin stupid man.
what I liked about the whole thing is he is teaching as he explains away the myth of the fast guitar and makes it easy to understand. NOW, PLAYING IT HAS BEEN A REAL CHALLENGE, AND I CAN'T GET THRU HALF OF IT. Kudos to Jason...THE TRUE GUITAR HERO.
I honestly think Jason is the greatest guitarist to ever live. He just does EVERYTHING so well... he does weird whammy stuff, he taps like Eddie, and he can sweep better than alexi laiho AND yngwie malmsteen. come on. He's not given enough credit..
If the man hadn't developed that awful disease I swear Becker could be playing over the quickest jazz changes and make it sound so amazing effortlessly. The guy was an incredible player and I think that if he had been in perfect health up until this point he'd be revered as one of the greatest musicians and THE GREATEST guitarist of all time... unfortunately it seems all the talented people either die or get sick... God bless Jason Becker.
@Scarified2012 Yep i agree. Jason Becker is a Genius and i mean Genius in every sense of the word. He is obviously one of the greatest musicians ever, his understanding of music is incredibly advanced, his own albums and work in cacophony shows this. Also ofcourse his command of the instrument is absolutely incredible. Btw even though Marty Friedman is known as a virtuoso in the guitar world too, i still think he is actually underated. :)
Yep! He really is a musically intelligent person which is absent way too often in popular music and budding guitarists. His command over the instrument, as you say, is also just another level of musical mastery that Becker displays. It's not the fact that he can play fast it's that he knows how to play slow too. The "clean" part of Altitudes is a great example of him doing smooth and emotional playing. Ah, now I never really liked Friedman although he does have some amazing work.
@RDBeast i heard he improved the solo for tornado of souls...i really hope this is true...but even still, anyone who can compose such an incredible piece of music surely is an amazing musician...same with lucretia...that solo is a fucking BEAST
Obviously Hendrix never could've played the music Jason has composed but would Jason have even picked up the guitar if Hendrix never existed? Probly not Hendrix was very good for his time but he was famous for innovation. He created and started the image that you can never master the guitar but always learn more. Jason obviously knew a little something about innovation and creating new music feels and styles, so everyone just love both musicians, listen to the music and SHUT THE FUCK UP!
@DillonBerkley I agree with you on the sentence: listen to the music and shut the fuck up. But, I don't take the shit that if hendrix never played guitar, none of these guitarists would ever picked up the guitar. that's fucking bullshit dude. Jason was extremely talented. he first picked up the guitar when he was 4 years old. now tell me, how the fuck could he know who hendrix was when he was 4,5,6 or even 7 and 8 years old. I started playing guitar when I heard joe satriani and not hendrix..
@ramiropohle you stop dude. i posted that a year ago cause people wouldnt stop arguing if hendrix was better becker than becker. I posted this because i wanted people to stop the crap.
@DillonBerkley get hendrix over your ass, this is a jason becker video, not hendrix, if you like hendrix so much, coment on voodo child, red house or other of HIS SONGS
@ramiropohle Hey im a Jason Becker fan as well as a Jimi Hendrix fan. I didnt say either one was better than the other because I DONT CARE! Quit being a 12 year old internet bitch. I dont know who the fuck pissed in your cheerios but it wasnt me. Did you not even read my previous comment? I posted the original comment because people were saying Hendrix was better than Becker and i disagreed but instead of aruguing with them like a bitch i found a happy median.
@DillonBerkley Well, yes that is true. But when was the question of "image" apparent for Hendrix or Jason? And actually Jason learned at a young age, so it's less likely that Hendrix was THE REASON he picked up guitar. But yes, he obviously pursued it with the help of Hendrix. See, Jason is more of a composer guitarist, who writes all kinds of chord progressions, then translates it into crazy arrpeggios or tapping patterns. EVERY guitarist, improving are most likely influenced highly by Hendrix.
@KornSOAD This argument was from over a year ago and your comment is irrelant to why i posted mine. Read back through the comments and you'll understand why i posted it or just don't comment back. I'm about to take it down from all the hate mail im getting from it and it was meant to shut everyone up cause people would not quit arguing about if Jason Becker was better than Jimi Hendrix. Don't give me a Jason history lesson cause you're preaching to the choir.
@DillonBerkley Dude... take the fucking dildo out of your god damn ass, and relax. I wasn't taking a side of your damn argument. I just thought you would think that was interesting and ironic cause Bob Dylan wasn't much of a guitar player.
@KornSOAD Well excuse me. When you write believe it or not that sounds like you want to argue over the internet. My bad but word you sentences more carefully as its easy to take anything the wrong way especially since i've been getting so much crap about the comment. Yeah i do think thats kinda strange cause jason is like the polar opposite of bob dylan in terms of guitar speak.
Not even close. He is a good tapper, his sweeps are good (but sometimes sloppy), his runs are incredibly mediocre and just plain weak, and what great musical piece has Broderick ever composed? I haven't heard anything but little snipets of what sounds like it might be a song. Broderick is a very technical guitar player. It ends there.
@Fluffypopcicle technical ability is the only way to master the guitar. He can literally do everything on the guitar and with extremely smooth execution even at ridiculous speeds. including eight finger tapping AND classical guitar. if you're talking about musicianship/artistry then yes perhaps you are right but anyone who says Chris Broderick hasn't mastered the guitar is an idiot unto himself.
You're not experienced in the least if you believe anything you just said. He can't do everything on the guitar, not even close. watch?v=6cGTsX3O-2E that's 40 nps and he is picking 40 nps. Can Chris Broderick do that? Hell no. Can he play Shawn Lane's augmented stretches at the speeds Shawn Lane did them at? Hell no. By your standards he isn't even remotely close to being a master.
@Fluffypopcicle for a record speed like that video you linked me I'm sure if he put himself to the task he'd be able to play it that fast or faster. As for your shawn lane comment uh have you SEEN what chris broderick can do? seems like you're just upset with the fact that chris broderick has mastered the guitar.
That's 40 nps. Nps stands for notes per second since you probably didn't know that. He played that while also picking 40 nps and playing a fairly challenging classical piece. Chris is said to practice as much as he can, yet he hasn't made it past a picking speed of 15 nps from what I have seen and he doesn't use any sort of complicated stretches. You are completely delusional. Any experienced guitarist would agree with me on this.
@Fluffypopcicle oh and by the way I actually thought your arguments had some sort of credibility until you assumed I didn't know what nps is. obvious moron who knows nothing about guitar and music theory trying to defend his ego and favourite guitarists. done talking to you now, you're an idiot
I assumed you didn't after telling you how fast he was playing and you assumed Chris Broderick could play that fast if he tried. That's repulsively illogical. If you knew what nps is and still believed Chris could do it then that just means that you are stupid. I'm not defending my ego, I'm defending facts. When I see a stupid comment I let people know that it's stupid. Yours is as stupid as they come.
Oh and by the way assuming that I know no music theory because I used music theory and thought that you didn't know that music theory is really REALLY stupid. Everything you have said this entire time is unbelievably stupid. Assuming that I'm an elitist idiot- where the fuck are you getting any of this? I'm telling you that Chris Broderick can not do everything on the guitar because it's true. You even admitted it "if he put himself to the task" because he can't do it yet. Never will.

man, i must say that he is just awesome..
but i would like to remind that what mather in music is not just technique, its also the feel you put into it.. im sorry guys but he is never gonna beet guys like eric clapton, jimi hendrix, malmsteen, santana or B.B. King. (dont take this like an insult, but like an opinion im expressing)
he is never going to beet those guys....yet he composes music while paralyzed? He was quoted saying something like theres so much music in my head its drives me nuts. He composes with his eyes and cant even move his jaw. Dear god you are right! HE will never beet them cuz HE literally cant beet them in a guitar battle cuz he cant even move at all.
alot of these shred greats where very classically aware of artiststs who had great "riffs" (dunno how mozart or bach would react to that word being used)
due to them usually all being classically trained.
NO FEELING! Are you serious. Go listen to "Altitudes" and "Rain " and come back. Jason Becker has put the most feel and emotion into any music I've ever heard. Let me remind you that he was still a Teenager when this video was taken. He also was Diagnosed with ALS at the age of 21 hasn't even been able to play the guitar for more than 20 years. Seriously bud, STFO, get your facts strait and don't post ridiculous shit like that.
i'd say you're about 99.3% wrong. jimi hendrix is no doubt a talented s.o.b. born for guitar. but all those blues guitarists dont know any other music. they know blues, which as i guitarist i can tell you a toddler could easily learn. becker could play anything from classical to blues to pop to flamenco. basically what im saying is the musicians you put as an example do not even c o m p a r e to jasons musical intelligence
really dude have you ever of heard of puttin guitarist in their own syle f music but btw becker is the only guitaris who know ever music syle in the playing

not true!!! andy timmons is most versatile guitarist out there, i dont know what jason would be like if he could still play, but andy timmons still owns everyone. (not hating jason, dont hate me) :DDDD
yea i think so, cuz he is (in my opinion) more rounded and versatile player, in every way , except tapping. and i think thats what guthrie is all about... tapping :S
so yea i think andy is better than guthrie, if thats what u ment :D
man this guys is just music... fucking ALS... he could easily been the best musician in all history... and just imagine to see him live in a concert :O AAA FUCKING ALS
Jason is definitely amazing. He could have been the best guitarist to ever live if ALS didn't hold him back, but he is still a great musician, if not one of the best composers to ever live. Jeff Loomis is great and can shred, but he has the upper han because he had soo much time to practice and play guitar. Jason was forced to stop in his early 20's
True. Actually, Jason Becker is the number 3 in my best composer of all times list (Just below Mozart and Bach). Oh btw, great user name; Marty Friedman played a character in a cartoon which name is Mr. Gojira hehe.
Yeah that's true. I have actually watched that video already. I've seen every jason video on youtube so far. But to be fair, jason was still starting on guitar if you think about it. He was just getting into the music industry and starting to make a name for himself and he got pulled down by ALS. Imagine how godly jason would have been if he continued playing guitar.
Jason is truly one of the best guitarists of my generation. He has been an inspiration to myself and countless others. If you like his works, you would also probably enjoy, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Marty Friedman, Vivian Campbell and Gary Hoey. Check them out. They are some of the best I can think of right off the top of head.
It doesn't matter how much you compare Jason Becker, The Creator of Everything, to an ordinary human being such as this.. Loomis guy, or whatever. Jason Becker is THE Guitar, he revolutionized it for sure. He did this shit in the age of 20, that's unique, not only did he invent his own style etc. He was fast and mastered many techniques. He was humble, funny and just played because he loved it. That equals = Unique guitarist. Suck on it.
Loomis is the closest there is for sure! Loomis is almost his equal when it comes to sweeps, but i'm not too sure about all other styles. i'm in love w/ Jason and anything he plays... God gave and then he took it away
yeah idd loomis also play towards heaven with his insanly black shreds and incredible leads hes some pleasure to the ear and in one of the better bands of today among megadeth and some others that still remain.
OMG!!! I have been playing guitar since i was 12 influenced by becker and yngwie etc...and i still cant even come close to something like this. Becker was just on a whole different level.
ive always loved jason. both inspiring and as a person. he never ceases to amaze me. after all the videos in the world its still amazing he was doing this at 18 years old.
cant wait for his new cd hes composing.. will e fucking awsome as hell \m/
whats cool with becker is that he was young and all that crazy stuff that he can do seems so simple for him.. Ive never saw him shred. Sure saw him improvise rock solo and stuff but that must be one of a fucking show to see beckers play guitar at the limit of what he can do..
He would prolly be able to fill 5 note in the same sound wave loll
did you catch that arpeggio thing he does at like 0:05?

alot of these shred greats where very classically aware of artiststs who had great "riffs" (dunno how mozart or bach would react to that word being used)
due to them usually all being classically trained.

I don't understand what you mean mate :/ Sorry.
Jagguar20 2 years ago
Seriously bud, STFO, get your facts strait and don't post ridiculous shit like that.

i'd say you're about 99.3% wrong. jimi hendrix is no doubt a talented s.o.b. born for guitar. but all those blues guitarists dont know any other music. they know blues, which as i guitarist i can tell you a toddler could easily learn. becker could play anything from classical to blues to pop to flamenco. basically what im saying is the musicians you put as an example do not even c o m p a r e to jasons musical intelligence
mozarthendrix 2 years ago 3
really dude have you ever of heard of puttin guitarist in their own syle f music but btw becker is the only guitaris who know ever music syle in the playing

This comment has received too many negative votes show
not true!!! andy timmons is most versatile guitarist out there, i dont know what jason would be like if he could still play, but andy timmons still owns everyone. (not hating jason, dont hate me) :DDDD

I love AT, but... you honestly think he best Guthrie?
Mumblefood 2 years ago
U mean is andy better than guthrie?
yea i think so, cuz he is (in my opinion) more rounded and versatile player, in every way , except tapping. and i think thats what guthrie is all about... tapping :S
so yea i think andy is better than guthrie, if thats what u ment :D

man this guys is just music... fucking ALS... he could easily been the best musician in all history... and just imagine to see him live in a concert :O AAA FUCKING ALS
luksguitar 2 years ago 4
Not in all history man, Mozart and Bach are pretty up there too, but easily Becker's the best of the last 200 years.
Jagguar20 2 years ago 12
You'd put Becker above romantic era composers like Beethovan, Liszt, Paganini, Shubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Chopin, and Strauss among many others?
thats a big statement. although to each is own. lol.
IamGod4u 2 years ago
Yes, but Becker was the best at his 19 years of age! Imagine how great would he have been without ALS now, and in 10 more years.

ItsGojira3 2 years ago 40
jason is 1000X the musician imo
666BLOODANDIRON666 2 years ago
Jeff Loomis & Jason Becker don't even belong in the same sentence. Becker's oldest recordings make him look like a beginner.
CoVOfficial 2 years ago 5
True. Actually, Jason Becker is the number 3 in my best composer of all times list (Just below Mozart and Bach). Oh btw, great user name; Marty Friedman played a character in a cartoon which name is Mr. Gojira hehe.
Jagguar20 2 years ago
i dont think a lot of people tell you this, but you just blew my fuckin mind.
BeefSupreme288 2 years ago
@ItsGojira3 well IMO i think no other guitarist will every reach his glory just type in "Jason becker noolding" u will change ur mind
UrbanAssault5150 1 year ago
@UrbanAssault5150

Suck on it.
swob0 2 years ago 9
that had real attitude to it, very van halenesque in that sense

aryinc 3 years ago 5
Loomis is the closest there is for sure! Loomis is almost his equal when it comes to sweeps, but i'm not too sure about all other styles. i'm in love w/ Jason and anything he plays... God gave and then he took it away
HarvesterofSorrow94 3 years ago
yeah idd loomis also play towards heaven with his insanly black shreds and incredible leads hes some pleasure to the ear and in one of the better bands of today among megadeth and some others that still remain.

what amps did he use?? wasnt it ADA amps?
totosmeels 3 years ago
He mostly used a Carvin x100b which he is using in this vid, but he did use an ADA MP-1 preamp for alot of the home recording stuff
RhoadsEVH94 3 years ago
he used various ones, but he sounds like that on any guitar using any amp. it's the fingers.

whats cool with becker is that he was young and all that crazy stuff that he can do seems so simple for him.. Ive never saw him shred. Sure saw him improvise rock solo and stuff but that must be one of a fucking show to see beckers play guitar at the limit of what he can do..
He would prolly be able to fill 5 note in the same sound wave loll
