Around the 9 minute frame, I saw a chest of drawers that is alost identical to the one my mother stands in front of in a very old photo. I am convinced now, that the picture was taken on the France. She cruised on that ship twice. Thank you for posting.
Its very sad to see the end of all this wonderfull ships, but what is to do in an other way ? The iron vessels will be oxidated at some ten jears, this moving is not able to stop. Aeroplanes are more fast and dosnt cost so mutch money in service, only a few people are necessery for a transatlantic lineservice and it is carring some hundred passengers. Now this ships have no commercial worth !
Very, very sad, but so is the worled and the future !
Why? Why did this have to happen? I love this ship! I wish there is some way to bring back. Reanimation, anything. I really hate the scrap merchants. If there is a way to get rid of them, I'll take it.
France was the only Liner on the ncl fleet to do what Queen Elizabth 2 did. Other Cruise Liners counldn't compete with Norway's opulance as well as her ablility to cross the Atlantic. Sayonara SS France Norway
I saw The SS Norway for sale a few years ago online. They wanted 24 million for her. Wish I could have bought her to keep her from ending up scrap. Bu there is still one ship that can esape that fate, and that's the SS United States. If we act soon.
My parents and I went on a jazz cruise on the SS Norway in Oct. 1985. It was the experience of a lifetime. I have so many great memories and pictures of our trip. We went to St. Thomas, Nassau and St. Martin. I cry every time I see her final days in the scrap yard. It's heartbreaking.
Like all of you I love the SS France and SS Norway, what a beautiful LAdy.
Instead to let her die on the indian shores, don t we can make an action on Facbook, where everybody give what he can in money to save the SS France/Norway ?? Nobody of us can pay it but if everybody give a bit, for sure we are able to save her......
@David79d I wish. her hull was competely gone by late 2008 though. But there is a ship still from that era that can be saved. She still holds the speed record too... Look for the SS United States. Youtube has some videos on her, but there are several organizations. You shuld look for them on google or myspace, But I know that they have a facebook page.
I was fortunate enough to have sailed on the NCL Norway twice as a child in the 1980's.
From Miami to the islands, NCL's private island and St. Johns (and a couple others I cannot remember). Great ship. Although, it was evident even then that the new breed of liners had made the Norway obsolete. Great to have experienced this. Sad to see her this way.
I worked on the Norway for a couple of contracts. I LOVED it. There was a lot of pride among the staff on that ship; everyone knew it was special even then. One thing I remember is, at night while we were at sea they'd have these huge doors open and they'd be tossing garbage out, at least once a cruise. Seeing some of those inside pictures gave me chills. Man I miss that ship. It's unbearable to imagine it scrapped.
I am impresed in her sleek lines, funels with wings. She was grand dame of the seas. If there was big interest to scrap her her right place would be in Le Havre as Floating hotel and museu French line to remember great time of Atlantic shiping.Alang should not be her fate. We will never forget your beauty. RIP SS France... Jan CZ

Because:
1) The number of people who have the money to save her and who also have facebook are very few.
and;
2) Because there is nothing left to save.
Search for: "SS Norway scrap yard before and after" on Youtube, you'll see.
