@unitedstatesdale thanks I'll look into them. I believe one of the factors shortening the life on mine is the heat . seems like the battery fails sooner when the unit has had a several extended runs over a year.
@GOSAULS it cranks pretty fast normally, it also "eats" batteries. they don't last too long, I suspect from being overheated if the unit runs for several hours a few times, especially in the warm weather. I replace the battery every couple years to be safe. ...still cheaper than a flooded basement.
not frequent, couple times a year. ...but only 1 is it takes to have a flooded basement. the transfer switch can be seen in my video Sump Pump - The Movie part 2 at 2:07
Maybe you can sand off the rust, use some red rust primer and then give it a nice finish coat of new paint sometime. Some of the newer (other brand) generators come in aluminum cases now. Bye Bye rusty mess.
Yes most definately a refinish is needed. Winco wants over 800.00 for a new housing. ...that ain't gonna happen! I'll call 1-800-GENERAC at that point.
Thanks! it cranks & starts much faster now with a new battery installed! the unit has 130 hours on it since being installed in 1998. so far it's been totally reliable.
Use a dry cell air craft battery... Mine has lasted eleven years and still works like the day I bought it.. worth the extra 80.00

too bad the climate in my area beats it up. I keep the oil changed and wipe it with WD-40 occassionally to minimize the corrosion inside.
