Did the same with a mid 80's Toyota truck. I dumped sea foam into the carb until it flooded (as prescribed on the bottle), let it sit for a few minutes (as directed by the bottle), then fired it up and had the same effect. Had no clue THAT would happen, but after opening both garage doors, the thing ran like a top. Rusted frame was finally the reason we got rid of it.
seafoam is like 6 bucks a can, the theory in this is it will flush the crud out of the intake and clean up the valves quickly, in real life it does that pouring it in the tank, just slower, additionally it cleans out the crud in your injectors, lines, basically anything your fuel touches and kills the moisture in the fuel. doing this is a waste of seafoam. use it for its intended purpose, if you wanna clean up the stuff, i dunno spray in some carb cleaner
i'd reccomend doing it. just do a little bit and see if you like it. i did it that one time and just havent got around to doing it again. worth a try. make sure you read on the online forums before you do it.
I bet thats great for you when you breathe it tn. Why do people seafoam there 3.4L? I have a 1998 and it runs so well. All I do is change the oil, clean the K & N and 3 times a year run redline fuel system cleaner. Seafoam looks to be overkill.
I also do my oil change and clean the K&N frequently. Someone reccomended this, so i did it once and havent done it since. It seemed like it helped.... i dunnno.. don't hate me for sharing my video with ya!!
@LIVE2RD Yes, Just go to dealer and buy fuel injector cleaner come in bottle about $11.99 and put in your gas tank..and fill to FULL and run...SAFER. Dealer tell me not doing SEA FOAM ..bad for the O2 sensor and BIG COSTLY to repair!! I STAY IN THE SAFER SIDE!
by the way when you clean K and N filter, Is that OK when you "oil" your filter and still a little wet?? I put outside and wait 4-5 hours and still not complete DRY like factory whey you buy new?
not sure... just when i pulled it off it was sucking in air like a vacuum and if you didn't have it fully covered or routed somewhere the truck would shut off... any of the black hoses... Google- Toyota Tacoma vacuum line...
Ok this was bad! Read some forums about seafoam! Its so bad! Any cleaning additive is corrosve to your injectors and on older engines the carbon is keeping the engine together! And it is proven that light carbon buildup actually increases compression by helping seal a worn in engine! This stuff is bad news! U wanna get a top end clean?get on an on ramp on a highway and punch your car to 80mph! thats the real way to do a top end clean!
Sea foam doesn't exactly get rid of all the carbon. It gets the majority of it out which is good. Most of the seafoam that you put in, goes in your exhaust manifold which IS good for that cause you get more backpressure. I seafoam my 4 wheeler twice a year and have been doing it for 6 years, it is also a 20 year old 4 wheeler!
Sea Foam isn't oil. It's not like he's pouring 30 weight into the intake. It's a mixture of petroleum spirits. Similar to what you'd use to clean up paint or tar.
Sea Foam, thats the point of the video, to show how much smoke the truck made, which then leaves me to think about how dirty my taco's insides were. = (
@JeepXJforever Not really, first time I used it on my Bronco a lot of smoke came out then after the 3rd use ( one every 6 months) almost NO smoke came out. Do your homework buddy.
@hideyourkidshidewife Well, i did this to a enterprise rental car i had, 2011 ford focus with 1300 miles, and it smoked just as much as this truck, if not more. Your telling me that car had that much carbon buildup at 1300 miles? No. No way. The smoke you see is the seafoam itself burning off. The only plus to this stuff is it is supposed to help absorb water from the fuel tank if used as an additive. There;s my homework, buddy.
i personally felt like it helped, but gas millage wise, i couldn't calculate because i installed my heavy ARB Bumper the next day so gas millage was taken away from that also.. i personally think for 5 bucks it made a difference and is DEF worth doing... i felt like it ran better. so yea. go for it!

@borrowedparts ..If you have fuel injectors, do not use carb cleaner, will hurt your O2 sensors. Just use THROTTLE BODY CLEANER.

where do you add the seafoam? where is the brake booster line on the tacoma? thanks
great132 1 year ago
@great132 you can dump it in with your oil or add some in with your gas or both

Do you believe everything you read online?
And if you're implying my car is held together by carbon, I got a bridge you might wanna buy.

Read some forums.. Thats were you get information from people who have tried things..I herd all bad things about sea foam. so i dont use it

How stoopid. You just coated your O2 sensors and CAT with oil. Remind me to stay away from NJ.

Is your Taco smokin' cause it's cold or cause of that sea form?

Did it work well though?
TJcars2 4 years ago
the smoke is just the seafoam burning it has nothing to do with how dirty the trucks engine was.
JeepXJforever 3 years ago
agreed. it has nothing to do with how 'dirty' your truck is.
