i can learn from this... i play tenor too! im new to improvising! I've started improvising on songs such as pick up the pieces, spain, in the doghouse, etc! It was always my dream to play funky solos like this! thanks for sharing, great video
sounds amazing how can I learn to improvise like that? I have a tenor sax and love playing, I've been playing for years but my improvising just sounds boring!!! How do you work out what rhythm to play?? Do you settle for a scale or what? I don;t understand! help! ha x
@xXprincesspopcornXx It is important to practice your scales, get comfortable in them, so you can then have fun in them with confidence. Also listen to soloists you like and try to learn their lines. It will help you then come up with your own. Also, you can check out our new band FLEAROY.
the drummer looks way too into it the trumpet player looks like his thunder was taken from under him good job keyboardist way to multi-task! YAY for the goofy-lookin guitarist!!!
Bari sax player, love the instrament but look less amazed at the tenor next time ok?
@lightningtheif5 k seriously? You should be a little less critical. First of all, you cant get ''too into" the music. Thats actually a good thing. Trumpet players have a habit of doing that for some reason lol nothing new there. And the bari player (also love the instrument), was just diggin the sound of the funky tenor player. Nothin wrong with that.
I'm not saying Koz is the best, but it's no argument that he does work with the crowd in his performances. That's all I was saying. I prefer others to Koz as well.
Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, Eric Alexander, Michael Brecker (RIP), Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garrett (the REAL Kenny G), Ron Blake, Walter Smith III, Steve Wilson, Don Braden, Seamus Blake, David Sanchez, Miguel Zenon.....there's a lot out there.....depends on what you like to listen to because some of these guys play straight ahead while others play more mainstream, groove-based jazz.....what are you looking for?
Michael Brecker, I'd say is my favorite sax player. Or close at least. Love his Delta City Blues. I like a good modern rock/blues sounding sax player. Someone who can bust out a good solo. Or just someone who's considered the master of the new generation, a generation that is a little lack-luster compared to the last few with jazz/blues.
Hey guys this is song is sweet! Is there sheet music or will I have to figure it out by ear? Check out my videos "David Wells Concert" and "Elkhart Central Senior Concert" tell me what you think comments would be awesome. Keep up the good work guys Awesome sound on the tenor by the way man.
The bari player is diggin those altissimo notes. Great solo

who else do you listen to?
saxev2005 2 years ago
Well, Kirk Whalum, as I mentioned, and others like Charlie Parker, Lester Young, John Coltrane, people like that. The period of good jazz music.
AsherSax 2 years ago
you should listen to some more contemporary sax players as well. jazz is ever-changing and it's good to have influences from all over.
saxev2005 2 years ago
It's never been my favorite genre of music, so I admit I don't know a lot of contemporary players. Any recommendations?
