Can anyone tell me how to get the male acapella version of the Star Spangled Banner, which was played at the sign off in Kaiserslautern by afn during the later 90's. That was the most beautiful version I've ever heard. I should probably email afn itself before it ceases to exist:-(
This always made me miss the States. My family was stationed in Wurzburg under my father from "88 - "91. Great experience but missed home too much. I feel all the immigrants' pain who come here to send money back to their families so they can eat a hot meal every night.
This brings me back memories. My father was in the U.S. Army, and we were stationed in Frankfurt between 1986 and 1991. My family used to live in an apartment complex called Edwards Village.
And I've seen the main AFN Headquarters numerous times when my family used to go out shopping.
Dudde I lived in Gibbs and left in late 85. I was there staying at the Ambassador Arms hotel when they put a bomb at the PX and blew the AFN windows out. The funny thing is that CNN had it on the air before AFN did!!
@Leyenda1 I got some friends who used to live in Gibbs around the same time I lived in Edwards. They now live in Augusta, GA, and my family now live in Atlanta, GA.
Wow, this brings back memories! I lived in Heidelberg from 1990-1993. It's hard for folks to understand, but AFN was our only connection to home. There was no internet. I would get home sick when I'd see this come on at midnight. I thought AFN was great even if many of the shows were over a year old. Good stuff clb185! Thanks for sharing!

I have an AFN Europe sign-off from about 1989 or 1990.
On the sign-off I have, it was short and when the sign-off aired, they went over to programming from AFRTS' satellite station in Sun Valley, CA.
