  • "This guy is cut out to be a music penis"

  • Joe Satriani, cancer victim

  • Jeez....wow...holy...what the?....are you kidding m....that's amaz...how do you....i can't belee...can this be happening to m....this is the most surreal moment of my li....i can see the cosmos....i'm flying through consciousness....i have left my body....the universe suddenly makes total sense and i feel i could fit it on the head of a pin....the answer is...is...is.... I MUST HAVE JOE SATRIANI'S BABY!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!

  • I wish my music class was like that.. I'm doing music at school and it's pretty much an hour or two hour long jam session.. Which is cool and all, but it's not really a lesson.

  • I hate how the guy behind the camera is like "WOW" and "JEEZ!!" like he's trying to suck up to satch

  • long hairs :D

  • I think it's a little presumptuous to believe that you have a acquired a 'university level' education by taking a music theory class at high school, no matter how good the teacher. In fact, a good teacher would assure you that you had a considerable amount yet to achieve before you were at that level. Your music theory grades are somewhat 'beneath' Jackendoff's Generative Theory of Tonal Music (mind you that particular theory was probably only conconceived around Satriani's graduation time...

  • the one thing that has always scared me was that "is my music career already over if I'm not already in a band and performing by grade 12?"

I know by history that all the best bands were together before they were 18 or 19 and were touring by their 20's, and I'm sitting here, nearly 19, with no band.

  • my school has an AP Music Theory class- i get to take it next year!!!!!

  • what age do you think is too old to persue music?

  • @metachozoite You are never too old to get started in music. The only requirement is to want it and love it. Look at it this way: what do you really have to lose if you try? You're likely to gain a lot in fact, at the very least you will gain some new skills and enjoy yourself. Whereas if you never take the first step and start, you remain exactly where you are. Go for it :)

  • @sauter1 well baise don my video (where im playing half assed btw) do you think id stand a chance?

  • @metachozoite I had a look at your videos and you're definitely talented. Stick at it and have fun along the way.

I'm applying to Uni and I'm doing music and although I know that won't necessarily get me a job in music, it'll definitely help getting contacts.

  • @lyndsayiu5 WOOOOW thank you so much :O yea go to college its awesome...thank you so much for you comment mean a lot :)

thank you again!!! and yrou right it will help get you contracts :)

  • @metachozoite you´l know it´s late by the time you are dead, so you´d better start now! ^^ best wishes from Argentina

  • @insaneguitarfreak agreed :D and thanks !!!

  • I'm 17 and take an AP Music Theory class in High School

  • @94Cioppa I bet you were born in 94. Weren't you? Thats how you came up with your name right? Cuz' you were born in 94?

  • @fightingnate yea, born the same day Cobain died

  • wow!!!! he's a lot smarter than a lot of other guitarists

  • music class is not important anymore in this era.

  • @KingofPho75 and thats why we have kesha

  • @KingofPho75 It's the most important thing in this era.

  • THats half the problem these days.... our children should be exposed an education that puts a stronger emphasis on music and art, it should be mandatory, or at least a part of the standard high school program! I think a lot of young people could be heavily influenced by music and art had they been formally introduced and have more options when they finish high school. (Commenting from Canada)

  • I just want his hat!!!

  • I'd kill to get 5 music theory lessons a week!!! I only get 5 a fortnight. :(

  • fun how people are inclined to think than becoming a great artist takes sacrifices and efforts. When u hear those artists talking you realize how everything was sort of easy for them, natural... the had the proper enviroment and becoming good just happened with time

  • Music Theory is actually really easy to understand

  • I didnt know he who must not be named was a good guitarist

  • I highly doubt it was equivalent to a music degree, considering they take 3 years! Otherwise it's demonstrate's how poor the American Education system is. But nonetheless he is an incredible guitarist.

  • i wish we had artists as talented and dedicated as joe satriani. todays mainstream doesn't compare to artists like joe satriani.

  • @johnmetalheadd Well John Petrucci (Dream Theatre and solo career) and Steve Vai (ex-whitesnake and Solo Career) went to Berkeley.

Satriani, as he mentioned in another video within this LLM series, went to another Berkeley which was a different place, it was almost a no-name college for music.

  • @ShadowLancer128 it is spelled Berklee

  • @DiatonicSoul i know and I apologize, thats just what happens when you have different colleges flying through your head.

  • I can't even bring my guitar to school.

    :)

But i love playing that thing, i don't really want to be famous, but i do want to play some live stuff,i need to find a bass and drummer, though 3 guitarist a band does not make.

    :D

  • @Emceetem this sounds like me.. =o

  • 0 dislikes for this. hahaha gotta love satch

  • @1JAT1 Someone disliked it. you HAD to jinx it!!!

    ...jk...

    xD

  • almost all great guitarist have been trained in classical music theory barring few exceptions.........

  • @virgoptrex no Jimmy Page Hendrix or Most of the best rock players cant read a note

  • jesus christ!!! no wonder he's so good!!

  • i wish we have more music classes in high school :/ we only have orch band and choral :( i want theory...

  • i love that there is no arrogance with him, he seems real genuine, its cool!

  • yeah he really is a laid back cool person, have you seen the interview with Malmsteen, he seems like an asshole.

  • i agree, amazing story.

  • Well there you go, i guess there's no way around it is there, it is what it is. It was meant to be.

  • cool

  • LOL!!!! I agree!!!!!

  • H3vtux: huh? I'm opposed to John McCain. I preferred Obama over him. Get out of the left-right paradigm dude.

  • then dont complain about taxation when public schools are all alot of our kids can offord

  • h3v: that's a non-sequitir...since I preferred Obama or McCain, I should not complain about taxation...

  • If only schools were like that right now. I would love to take a music theory class.

  • @DragonX28 take it online.

  • @DragonX28 take it online. its not the same as hands on but the knowledge is there for the taking.

  • @DragonX28 There's a music theory class at my school, it's awesome. That kinda sucks for you dude.

  • @DragonX28 I'm 14 I took a music theory class in a public school 2 years ago.

  • @DragonX28 the high school I just graduated from actually has a great music program. Beg/Int/Adv guitar classes. Jazz band, Orchestra, choir, and the other usual ensembles. But the best part was CME(Contemporary Music Ensemble), code for rock band class. You can check out my channel for videos of projects from that class

    or the schools account vinko99.

  • @DragonX28 You could probably find a music theory class at your nearest community college or something that you can sign up for just a single class.

  • such a humble and down to earth guy. He's such a hero and inspiration.

  • Yeah and everyday...just like eating an apple...

  • Satriani is one of my favorite artists, i could listen to this guy talk all day

  • i agree its so encouraging to hear his interviews

  • i prefer him playing, this is a way of teaching myself (as a selfteaching guitar player) and amusement in the way of seeing inside the life of an idol

  • @kaibacorp5 well, I could listen to him talk all week !! :)

  • You just wrote yourself another thumb down. Congratulations!

  • seriously i am a 13 year old guitarist ive been playing for 2 years im doing 5 concerts of his single starry night if i am famous some day i will owe my life to this amazing human being

  • Let's see what you know. More then that, let's see what music you can compose. Maybe there is a reason he's sold 15 million copies+ of his albums and you are just a shrew screwing in your bathroom insulting a legend. Get a life.

  • Surfing was an experimental album that changed guitar as the world knew it, if that's a joke I'm not laughing.

  • surfing was a really good album I agree, but I don't think it changed guitar as the world knew it.

I think it changed guitar for people who listened to joe satriani albums and were really passionate for it.

  • Well to each his own, but when SWTA dropped you didn't have to listen to his *albums* to hear his music. For the first time in a long time instrumental guitar was being played on the radio again.

  • who actually cares about what is being played on the radio?

  • Maybe the handful of people who listen to it? Not everyone goes out of their way to listen to artists like Satch, Vai, or lane, and for Satriani to get his music on the radio was quite an achievement, you know, so that handful of people who actually listen to it might have discovered him.

  • your comment is a total joke. but a very pathetic one.

  • satch is a real nice humble guy, not as nice and humble as i am, but nonetheless a really nice guy

  • lol

  • I laughed!

  • joe satriani has moved me he has been my idol but this is actually making me choose what i want to do when im older i already play guitar but this has pushed me along thank you joe satriani you are awesome if i ever get really good i hope to meet you some day

  • I think that is great...good luck to you....

  • i met him hes awesome such a nice guy hes a god

  • Indeed a sad reality of education in the US these days . . but if you really want it, you'll find it . . knowledge and information are more accessible now than ever and one thing never changes: the cream always rises to the top . .

    Cheers . . Greg

  • @LivingLegendsMusic the cream may rise to the top, but so does poop. well, most poop. some poop hits the bottom harder than gary busey at a coke party. also, i like poop sessions where there isn't a whole lot of wiping involved. I once saw a movie about chickens in space.

  • todays music education in new york city is nothing like that anymore my schools department of music cant even afford replacement strings for the guitars that we play on

  • Amazing! No wonder why Joe Satriani knows a lot about music because of His extensive background during his high school years. Every time he talks about music, you always absorb wisdom and experience from Him. Thanks for posting this video LivingLegends Music.
