jesus tells us in the bible that if we do not do penance our soul will parish, so therfor god is commanding us that we HAVE TO do penance we dont have the option to say i dont feel like doing it, and the church has the authority from jesus to the apostalic succesion to tell us what days to fast and abstain from meat, if they didnt command it no one would do it look at the protestants. giving up meat and fasting are forms of penance
The clergy had an "out" in the Middle Ages, the barnacle goose (Lepas anatifera) which does not nest in Britain was thought to spring, fully grown, feathers and all, from barnacles. Thus since they were "... obviously “not born of the flesh” but from a barnacle, they could be eaten not just on Fridays but throughout Lent!" Source Arkive[dot]org.
I am a vegan and I am quite physically healthy. I dont need to kill animals to live or to enjoy food. I dont tell others what to do but i feel better spiritually speaking by not consuming the flesh of animals that have been slaughtered. Meat consumption is known to cause heart desease, various forms of cancer and other deseases. Especially the hormone and pesticide laced meat sold in this country.
@lrmswift You make the fatal mistake that eating meat is somehow morally wrong. It's not. It's morally ambiguous and neutral. You can bet that if the cow was a carnivore, it would sure as hell eat both of us.
Meat consumption has never been linked to cancer. Soy is horrible & has been linked to systemic cancer due to the simple fact that its a xenoestrogen.
Meat isn't laced with pesticies. Plants are & suffer the same problems nowadays that meat does - GMO crops, pesticides/insecticides, etc
@lrmswift You honestly think our cavemen ancestors were vegetarians? MILLIONS of years of evolution have developed us into omnivores. I apologize for sounding crass, but if you knew even the slightest bit about developmental biology and nutrition you would realize the human body NEEDS meat to function properly.
Carbohydrates are the only non-essential macromolecule and vegans/vegetarians have a diet that is virtually all carbs.
@lrmswift Veggies often suffer from zinc and b12 deficiencies and need to get those through a supplement. Frankly if your diet needs a supplement to be complete, it's a shitty diet and there's something fundamentally wrong with it.
I have to ask, being an ex-catholic you might know. Shellfish, and indeed all creatures that live in the sea that are unscaled are an abomination unto the lord and should not be consumed. Turtles are scaled obviously but they eat jellyfish which are not. are turtles going to hell? hehe.
It's wrong because Jesus was crucified on a Friday! And It's a reminder during Lent that he was Crucified on Good Friday! Just like going to church on Sunday because Jesus rose from the dead on Sunday. I love God because he is almost the only thing that is good in my life! God bless you all. :)
Why does the Bible consider vegetarianism to be wrong or of the Devil(1 Timothy 4:1-3)? Is it wrong not to want to eat meat? Didn't God want man to eat meat at first? Why did he change his mind? I thought God can't change(Malachi 3:6)?
If God made us to know everything, wouldn't we all be the same, and wouldn't life not contain those special moments like seeing a baby child crawl around or breathing the fresh air of a natural landmark? for many atheists, these could still happen, but it would be like receiving one million dollars in the mail from nowhere but an abyss. You would have no one to thank for such fortune, and Christ is completely capable of doing these things, so that is why we must all be patient and praise Him
You all don't understand because some of the greatest extremities of our world are simply beyond our human intellectual grasp. Human was once made perfect, but once we denied god, we had to pay. I am a strong Christian and i still am confused about why God would rather have us not eat meat on Friday, but that doesn't mean I am unintelligent. It means that I am willing to admit that there is one greater than any man and that man was not created to understand everything, but rather to ponder it.
Matthew 15:11- "It is not what goes into the mouth that makes a person unclean. It is what comes out of the mouth that makes a person unclean."
No wonder that the Catholic priests read the bible in Latin to the public. They don't want the people to know what the bible actually says. Thus the reformation was a correction of things gone wrong in the Roman Catholic Church.
Eating fish on Friday is an Italian tradition. It is not a Christian or even Catholic religious belief. It is one of those practices that developed superstitions around it and erroneously incorporated itself into Catholic belief. This was a corruption by man as he always seems to do with everthing he touches.
that's human man take-over of religion that Catholicism has so brutally gone through. i mean 100 some years ago the pope became infallible, c'mon man.
regarding rules in general- they are less meant as rules as they are guidelines. instead of them being something you just do or dont do like a drone, following these guidelines- such as adhering or refraining from something- enables you to become closer to God and shows your true desire to find and enjoy his presence etc etc
@yunathin, you do not understand. When I was a seminarian and a priest, the official Catholic teaching was: if a Catholic deliberately disobeys the rule against eating meat on a Friday, and dies unrepentant, God tortures that person continuously forever in hell. 'Guideline' is not the right word.
@edwardtarte The movie Earthlings is free at google videos; the full text of paper "Diet, energy and global warming" is free at journals.ametsoc.org. Vast amounts of (scarce) water are used for cattle, and a lot of land is used to graze cattle and damaged by it.
Christianity which portrays itself as voicing supreme goodness, condones the use of animals for whatever we want, believing they don't have souls. Native americans thought of animals as other "nations".
It's another line of response to the video. The world would be SO much better off if people, especially in the rich countries that eat so much animal food, became vegan or at least, less carnivorous.
It's also interesting to me that nonreligious people seem to be in the vanguard in terms of most CURRENT ethical issues. Rather than ones from centuries ago! Around here at least, veganism isn't linked to religion.
@toppinzr Actually, it is morally neutral. We are natural omnivores. Many creatures only eat the flesh of other creatures, and will kill their prey in much crueler fashons at times. Does that make them evil? Of course not.
One thing vegetarians forget that without the meat industry, Cows, Chickens, Pigs, Sheep, Goats, etc would all quickly become endangered species. No-one would want to keep them, and most of them wouldn't survive in the wild!
I need to move closer to the international date line. Then if I want to eat meat on a Friday I can step across the line to where it's Thursday or Saturday, wolf down my hot dog, and then step back.
@812LJ, your scripture, words of another, has no meaning regarding your 2 cents !@ yedrow, your statement of reasoning regarding atheism concludes no factual evidence as does your brain regarding Christianity. We believe what we see, not what we are told or taught to believe ! We ask questions hindering your acknowledgment of a super being, alas obliging you with the phenomenon you deem realistic ! Your god is a mere print out in a book created by man aiming to control you. Should you believe ?
If we as humans are to believe every moral standing in the bible , then we as humans are condemned no matter our moral standing, hence the biblical meaning of morals is inconceivable, given the text in the bible. You are listening to a Catholic who is now disbelieving, does the higher power in Italy portray our fancy ? Molesting children with no punishment, no law, are these sickening acts portrayed by GOD to be holy, natural ? @ AmericanBadass44, molestation of a child exceeds my intellect ?
superb video edwardtarte, perhaps as intellectuals we could indulge in conversation in the near future minus the agenda and personal standings commented on your video. @XinvalidnameX, " the idea of god not being real is pretty pathetic ? " Evidence of any subject to be regarded as fact is necessary to deem a belief to be truthful . The bible ? Think again !@ yedrow, we do not worship ourselves, we believe in ourselves and what we perceive ! Perhaps you should discontinue listening, believing !
@edwardtarte Hi ^_^ thanks for taking the time to generate intelligent reasoning, (sadly there's a difference), for a wide audience. I appreciate what you are doing, and wish you the best of luck and a happy and enjoyable life.
Matthew 15:10-11 - Then Jesus called to the crowds and said, "Listen to what I say and try to understand. You are not defiled by what you eat; you are defiled by what you say and do."
Thank you for your thoughts and experience. It's always a pleasure to see people with this kind of long and impressive life story sharing their views and convictions with such a broad (and often thankless) audience.
That one always confused me too, as the church kept insisting that it was the one unchangeable, constant, and original church. The others were just late comers who were all in error because they made things too easy and comfortable for believers. I was surprised when these dietary laws changed just like that. But by that time I was a born-again atheist and all of this silliness didn't matter and was just amusing.
You are wrong by nature of the fact that morality is impossible to argue as a fact, the way you are arguing it. Why is it wrong to kill an innocent person? What is innocence in the first place. The sin is the breaching of an order, a dictate that is in question. Morality is such a dictate, or, it is a genetic imperative, in which case it is meaningless.
I do agree with you that the church looses credibility when it issues and maintains such dictates. The sin though, remains the same.
Hey, know what's kind of ironic?, I agree with your indignant feelings for such perverted misrepresentation of Jesus, Resurrected Son of God, which they proclaim.
It is by rules and regulation that try to make it seem impossible to escape hell without them. I am most certain Jesus would count this hypocritical Pharisaical throw back.
This truth is what outraged the enemies of Righteousness.
This is arrogant honor and respect mongers motivational factor for concocting non-scriptural practices.
Amer, you are incorrect. Atheists simply do not find any credible evidence that any god exists. I'll bet you are an atheist when it comes to Thor, Zeus, Poseidon, Ra, Baal, and hundreds of other gods. There is nothing arrogant or smug about that. It's just that I am an atheist about one more god than you
@edwardtarte Actually, this is incorrect in that it presumes atheists to be a monolithic group. In my experience, 99% of all atheists are members of what could be called new age cults. They are at best anti-Christian, regardless of the subterfuge and equivocation used. Either you worship yourself or your worship god. In worshiping yourself you call yourself god. The human mind, as a matter of genetic survival, always elevates some thing to deity status. There are no perfect monks either.
Yedrow, I do not worship myself. I do not call myself god. I do not elevate anything to deity status. I do not engage in subterfuge nor equivocation. You do not know what you are talking about.
@yedrow wow, typical theist comment, to assert that atheist "worship themselves". I hold nothing as sacred or holy, including myself. Im not anti christian, nor do i belong to any cults. I simply see no evidence for the existence of any deity. Thats all. I believe in love happiness and peace. It is not an ego stroke to be an atheist.
@MasterofDisaster17 I'm afraid that our knowledge of what we do and who we are is limited by the fact that you can't accurately judge a system from within the system. Again, how do you know yourself so completely if you aren't god? Also, why do atheists spend so much time proselytizing? If there is no god, what difference is it to you? A true atheist would live an let live, not elbow his or her way into the tent shouting out their holy tenets and claiming superior (divine) knowledge.
@edwardtarte Sorry, Edward. Not all athiests entertain evidence of gods. We simply dismiss them as myths. As you might dismiss Thor, Odin, and Zues I dismiss all of them as myths. Good videos. Regards
@AmericanBadass44 Not true, although the reason you're a creationist IS due to the fact that you believe that an imaginary man lives in the sky without the grounds to support such a claim. How embarrassing.
@AmericanBadass44 Ed pretty much summed up the appropriate response below, but I'd like to add that everyone is born an atheist. We are taught by MAN how to worship. I know this because I was raised without religion, as were my siblings. All of us came to the conclusion that there is no god, and our parents didn't preach to us at all.
Just a general comment...I often hear atheists say "we all have only one life to live" That, in my opinion, is nearly impossible. Think of it this way: Our existence proves that "something" has always existed. Furthermore, through no action of our own, we (our conscious identities) arose out of that "something" I think most scientists would agree that "something" will always exist. Now, consider that any time spent unconscious will pass instantaneously (like a dreamless sleep)...continued
cont...so, when you factor that: "something" will always exist + our conscious identities can arise out of that "something" + time spent unconscious passes instantaneously = After we die we will IMMEDIATELY become aware of our next conscious state, whether that be reincarnation, union with God, or some other bizarre state we can't even imagine.
Well, its all about conscious identity. How would we know if any spiders, cockroaches, cows, etcs. have the same conscious identity as any previous lifeforms? Humans on the other hand have many reincarnation stories...some are very convincing. How could they be proven?? You would have to somehow determine where our "identity" is in the brain and see if it matches any new creature...it would be extremely difficult to prove, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.
cont..I mean, our conscious identities are a scientific reality. We are experiencing consciousness. The entire brain is not our identity because people can suffer brain damage and still be the same individual. And even though we can observe brain activity, actual conscious experience itself is not physical...could it be that our identities are not physical? (aka soul)
@edwardtarte, There is no evidence against of afterlife either. God's fingerprint is all over the beautiful lands. Open your eyes, open your mind, open your heart.
Your cognitive functions and the way you showcase them with blind, arogant comments, is quite comical.
If you speak to God, thats fine, if God speaks to you... You have serious problems my friend, and should seek help.
Rational thinking, and reason, should be the guidelines for life, not some, made-up tales, that MUST be true, because they were written in a book. (that has over one thousand variations by the way, to accomodate to the changing world, does this not send a subtle message?)
Someone WILL post a profoundly stupid comment in response to this.
One day there will so much undeniable evidence that all the 'believers' will be so clouded with facts that they will either do one of two choices--Realize what the hell they are doing and what they are wasting their life upon, or, press on with the blind ignorance as they display nowadays.
"Two hands at work can do more than a thousand clasped in a prayer."
There is no conflict between evolution and God. The only thing evolution disproves is the theory that God literally molded human beings out of clay which is a belief held by a very large imaginary group of fundamentalists that atheists spend all their time mocking. Heck I gave a presentation on human evolution over 12 years ago at a predominantly christian school and no one considered it controversial in the least. Even the Pope believes in evolution (and God).
Atheists thought of life is so clouded and distorted that they make up foolish things like you just said. Atleast religion gives people hope all atheism does is take it away.
According to atheism, we all have only one life to live, so we should be more inclined to enjoy our lives while we have it, (instead of preparing ourselves for an afterlife we have no reliable knowledge of).
I would imagine more hope and enjoyment to be found in life with no god to threaten us with fire and brimstone over little things like working on sundays or eating meat on fridays.
The truth is that atheists are 10 times more likely to murder or kill themselves than christians. Not to mention that they are 11 times more likely to take drugs. I never said I believe in any of that, I believe in god just not what people say about him, your entitled to your own opinion though.
Sucking the planets resources dry I could not agree more because thats exactly what you atheists do. By the way I am a free thinker as well but im not an atheist and I never said I am a christian, I believe in god just not what people say about him. Listen all I know is that i believe in god and my life is perfectly fine, yours however is filled with thoughts of a false reality, The only one your fooling is yourself.
Like I said studies show that atheists are 10 times more likely to kill themselves or kill someone else. bottom line is your only embarrassing yourself and making yourself look like a fool by trying to start all these arguments do you really have nothing better to do?
how come people can't just live their lives with common sense? Look how many people died over all the years because they were the "wrong religion" its sad really.. how come we only get to live for about 70 years, but have to spend ETERNITY in heaven or hell? LOL! What happens with the sun dies out and there are no more humans to die and go to heaven? so we're all just sitting up there with our thumbs up our butts? Ugh! i am so sick of "religions"
@TheOptimistPrime Still, that small voice is your own. Give yourself the credit for your moral thinking. Give society the credit for the evolution of morality. Do not slight yourself by implying that the little voice comes from without, for it comes from within YOU. It is your own conscience of guilt and fairness that tells you something is evil or good, not some voice from the clouds. It is the ability to empathize with others that gives us our morality, not some ethereal voice.
The Catholic church back then and even now were using people for money. Let's say you sinned you would have to pay x number of dollars based on seriousness of that sin to go to heaven and be forgiven. So they pagan to make rules that the common people would have to break such cursing. Profanity is actually taking gods name in vain but they add the forbidden words on there cause they were used commonly and each time some one used those words they got paid. They don't charge now.10% is good.
It's refreshing to get the point of view of someone who used to teach these things for a living (not to mention as a lifestyle).
I was raised Catholic, but for some time I've found various discrepancies such as those you've pointed out throughout Catholic teachings. While I now find essentially all religion to be rather self-contradictory, I think it's especially evident in the Catholic faith.
I also think this new age neo-atheism movement is a form of religion. Atheism seems to be "all the rage" nowadays, especially on the internet, and it seems just as extreme as religion itself. I'm an open minded spiritual beleiver, and I like religious debate, but only with respectful, mature people who are not offensive on purpose. :D
What gets me most about the "no meat on Friday" thing is that there is NOTHING in the Bible to support it at all. So even when I was a believer, it made ZERO sense to me.
And now that I'm no longer a believer, it seems absolutely insane.
Godsizedhole, you are incorrect. Atheism is not a religion. Atheism is simply not finding any credible evidence for the existence of any god. If atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair color, and 'off' is a TV channel.
Agnosticism is suspending judgment due to lack of evidence. Atheism is assuming that you have enough evidence to disprove God. It's just as extreme an assumption as believing there is one. I can't prove lots of things. That doesn't mean that no proof is proof in and of itself. You sound like you should be Agnostic, not Atheist. Unless you can disprove the existence of a God.
Weird how all of these "Atheists" don't actually know what it is. You all sound like agnostics. Atheism is saying "There is no God. I'm sure of it" Agnosticism is saying "If we were supposed to know if there is a God or not, we would. Until then, I suspend judgement. Assuming there is or isn't would both be a shot in the dark."
Atheism harbors mostly FREE and OPEN-MINDED thinkers, people who can think for themselves.
People who are raised with.. the bible.. and TOLD to believe in god (notice I did not say chose to believe) are usually more closed-minded, and do not have to think for themselves, what-so-ever.
If you aren't sure if there is a god or not, you are agnostic. Look it up before you call me a moron. This isn't about what atheism means to you, this is objectively. Maybe you think saying you are an atheist is cooler or something, but if you suspend judgement, you are agnostic.
absolutely, we believe what we believe both because of a lack of evidence as well as the multitude of inconsistencies, lies and atrocities found in your 'holy' book. i use mine for rolling paper, personally :)
There once was a real theory that stated that any possible outcome can happen in an alternate dimension so basically anything is possible, therefore there has to be a god even if not in this universe.
@XinvalidnameX No, if the universe is infinite, the only thing which is proven is that there is more 'universe', not your notion that an imaginary man lives in the clouds. Fail.
Oh really I fail? Atleast I believe in god and my life is great your life is so bad you have to go to youtube and force your opinion on people XD. Thanks for giving me this opertunity to make you look like an idiot in front of these people, biggest fail of the year award goes to you.
If you're going to resort to ad hominem attacks I refuse to continue debating with you. My life is great too, partially due to the fact that I don't have to live my life in fear of an invisible entity which doesn't exist. Neither must I fear eternal torment for that matter. Have a wonderful day :)
@XinvalidnameX OMG!! (said in a secular way, of course) Who is forcing you to listen to these opinions or watch these videos? Should we call the police and have this injustice stopped? It must be sheer torture for you to sit through these. The evil perpetrators must be caught and brought to justice! It's forced indoctrination I tell you!
@HappyApostate Lol, I dont even go to church just so you all know but the idea of god not being real is pretty pathetic singling out the man that runs all just because your life sucks, thats sad you need help.
@XinvalidnameX, we atheists find no credible evidence of the existence of any 'man that runs all,' nor any being 'that runs all'. I have read your comments, and they show much rudeness, that I do not appreciate. Rudeness is not all that they show, but in this reply I will leave it at that.
@edwardtarte You call me rude when your the one making videos slandering the very idol that most of the people in the world look up to. Your forcing your opinions on other people and making these videos like this just to rub it in the face of those who believe in god. This may mean nothing to you but god is someone who brings hope to those who have nothing, I really dont care for your opinion, so stop replying.
@edwardtarte I find no credible evidence of honest reasoning in Atheists. For example, "Rudeness is not all that they show..." is a flashy bit of hypocritical reasoning. It matters not whether the other person was being rude. Your being rude neutralizes any meaning your accusation may have had. Scratching cat litter over it changes nothing.
I will repeat myself I never said i believe in hell or eternal torment or any of that I said I believe in god and morals. You have continuously made a fool out of yourself and emberrassed yourself and you wont stop. That best defense you have so far come up with is "if the universe is infinite, the only thing which is proven is that there is more 'universe', not your notion that an imaginary man lives in the clouds. " you lose I win end of story.
Just because Christianity is dumb doesn't mean there isn't something else, maybe something we don't need to worship etc. I'm Agnostic myself. And Atheism is a religion, the way that black is a color.
Okay, Jews never eat pork. Muslims also never eat pork. Hindus never eat beef. but people have a problem with the Catholic Church because they don't want you eating meat on Fridays only?
@TenderTrap86 its because in the religions you listed, there is an actual.. credible reason as for why you shouldn't. not eating meat on fridays seems like some random thing the writers of this "holy book" came up with.
i think the huge start of atheism and its rapid spreading is that people are more intelligent now than when religion had first been proposed. we have more rational minds, and people are beginning to see the contradictions and bullshit of the "holy bible" catholics.. youre beat.
-"not eating meat on fridays seems like some random thing the writers of this "holy book" came up with"-
Actually the Catholic and Orthodox faiths are built on Sacred Scripture and Holy Tradition, not just Sola Scriptura, a Protestant error. Just like college like students trust their porfessors at university and have faith that they're teaching the correct material, so we to trust the meaning of of sacred texts to the interpretations of the Church Fathers, circa 100-600 AD.
-"people are more intelligent now than when religion had first been proposed. we have more rational minds,"-
Archeologists are finding out that what we think have been discoveries of the "modern world" in the past 250 years, are actually re-discoveries. Galen, the Roman doctor, advocated germ theory, 1,700 years ago. The Sumerians knew about heliocentrism 5,000 YA. Read about the wonder of the Great Pyramids of Giza, the intracacy of the "Anthikithyra Mechanism", and much more.
im catholic but I dont care, I'll eat meat on good friday or ash wednesday If I want cuz its just a day. I dont recall god saying that we can't eat meat on those days.
I'm not very religious nor am i the opposite. But i think the reason for religion is because of the fact we were put on this planet with no one telling us what we are, the meaning of being alive, or what to do. And i think that people will believe in anything if they think it will tell them the answer. But that's just my opinion
It is probably prudent to beware of ANYONE claiming to know the absolute truth from an absolute perfect source. That is probably dangerous to all humanity, for if someone claims to have god on their side how can they be wrong?
Thats probably the scariest and most dangerous knowledge anyone can have.
Only the religious make this claim.
MORE THAN LIKELY, NOONE KNOWS ANYTHING PERFECTLY! This applies to this statement as well :-)
I say there is no god, yet I just cleaned up for my girlfriend just to make her happy after calling my grandmother just to say hi. Clearly, people who lack a belief in an ego crutch can do good.
Mish., quoting the Bible to me is a waste of time. Watch my video, Bible--Word of God. I have my conscience--my 'moral compass'--from my environment and the reactions of my body and my cognitive faculties. Not your imagined God, nor any other god, had anything to do with it. In fact, your God, presumably the imagined God of the Bible, is depicted as being thoroughly immoral and evil, not a person who could give anyone a 'conscience to be good'. So everything in your comment is useless.
"And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and woman: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house." (Ezekiel 9:5-6)
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
Yes I knew that. Did you also know that if we don't find him and love him that he will torture us forever after we die. That is some real love right there.
God has said that he wants no one to perish but that all should come to repentance,Jesus paid the price with His life to show that He loves you but rejecting it is up to you
Then why doesn't he help when those people have cried, pleaded, and begged him to show them??
I was a Xian for over 50 years. I never saw anything to suggest he was real. He doesn't answer prayers, He doesn't perform miracles, and he hasn't made one appearance in 2K years! Why do you think that is?
Lets say they look and look, but find no trace of your god, and no rational logical reason to believe. They are good people, totally honest, and bcuz of their honesty, no reason to believe. What does god do about that? What will he do to them?
As Ilikejpgs has made very clear, the egg doesn't walk on water, it's a physical thing. It's not 3 in one! There are a large number of things that an egg is made of, u only chose 2 name 3! ha!
My personal opinion as to why the trinity came about was to explain the plurality of the Elohim. The Hebrews were the last to get their gods from the Elohim but they did 1 thing the other religions didn't do. They changed their Elohim to singular. I think the trinity was an attempt to explain it.
religion breeds on infants and youth. If they didn't indoctrinate people before the age of reason then they would be gone in a generation. Whenever i was 8 i used to think that when women got married thats how they got pregnant and that deep in my heart santa really did leave me presents. Luckily though my parents never dragged me to church or stuffed ideas in my head and when i was 13 i read the bible for the first time and from then on i knew i was a nonbeliever.
You made a very important point about "the age of reason!" That really says it all.
We no longer need superstition in our societies. It worked poorly, even in the primitive societies, but I can see how & why it devlped. But we are far past that now. The adherants to such religious beliefs now, only impedes progress.
Just look at these comments from the obsessed. It's easy enough to see how deluded they are, & how badly they want us to be a part of it!!
Mish, you couldn't be more wrong. Since this is the only life we have, let us treasure it while we have it, and make the most of each day. Let us love others, do good to others, help them to have good and decent lives. Let us treasure the world around us, find out what we can about it and about ourselves.
@mishakol129 So you want to treasure earth and ashes? Corruptible matter? Decay? Worms? Dirt and Clay? Nonsense. There's something much, much better than this vain world to live. The world and the people in it are enslaved by demons,(evil spirits). The devil is definately real, and if he is real then God certainly exists. The universe is not eternal, and if the universe is not eternal then it could not have been created by anything other than a eternal being.
I've tried to write something nice about the beauty of the universe, but I don't think it would help.
If there is a God and he created us imperfect but demands perfection defined by the denial of all lifes pleasures he's an sadistic ass and if I believed he exsisted I would "sin"(meaning live) twice as much just to piss him off.
You're not dirt, you're the epitamy of life, the universe become conscious for a short time and your thorwing it away for some bronze-age dogma.
If you believe this life is so corrupt and terrible, it's bcuz people like you make it that way!
Matter is eternal. It can't be creted nor destroyed, but since you think otherwise and the devil is real, please prove it! Present your evidence! Don't just make wild assertions, prove it.
You make a hell of a lot of sense to me, Edward.

Meat isn't laced with pesticies. Plants are & suffer the same problems nowadays that meat does - GMO crops, pesticides/insecticides, etc
LuniaVideo 8 months ago
@lrmswift You honestly think our cavemen ancestors were vegetarians? MILLIONS of years of evolution have developed us into omnivores. I apologize for sounding crass, but if you knew even the slightest bit about developmental biology and nutrition you would realize the human body NEEDS meat to function properly.
Carbohydrates are the only non-essential macromolecule and vegans/vegetarians have a diet that is virtually all carbs.
LuniaVideo 8 months ago
@lrmswift Veggies often suffer from zinc and b12 deficiencies and need to get those through a supplement. Frankly if your diet needs a supplement to be complete, it's a shitty diet and there's something fundamentally wrong with it.

You would have no one to thank for such fortune, and Christ is completely capable of doing these things, so that is why we must all be patient and praise Him
ChromeWorks64 1 year ago
You all don't understand because some of the greatest extremities of our world are simply beyond our human intellectual grasp. Human was once made perfect, but once we denied god, we had to pay. I am a strong Christian and i still am confused about why God would rather have us not eat meat on Friday, but that doesn't mean I am unintelligent. It means that I am willing to admit that there is one greater than any man and that man was not created to understand everything, but rather to ponder it.
ChromeWorks64 1 year ago
Matthew 15:11- "It is not what goes into the mouth that makes a person unclean. It is what comes out of the mouth that makes a person unclean."
No wonder that the Catholic priests read the bible in Latin to the public. They don't want the people to know what the bible actually says. Thus the reformation was a correction of things gone wrong in the Roman Catholic Church.
Tapajara 1 year ago
Eating fish on Friday is an Italian tradition. It is not a Christian or even Catholic religious belief. It is one of those practices that developed superstitions around it and erroneously incorporated itself into Catholic belief. This was a corruption by man as he always seems to do with everthing he touches.
Tapajara 1 year ago
that's human man take-over of religion that Catholicism has so brutally gone through. i mean 100 some years ago the pope became infallible, c'mon man.
regarding rules in general- they are less meant as rules as they are guidelines. instead of them being something you just do or dont do like a drone, following these guidelines- such as adhering or refraining from something- enables you to become closer to God and shows your true desire to find and enjoy his presence etc etc
yunathin 1 year ago
@yunathin, you do not understand. When I was a seminarian and a priest, the official Catholic teaching was: if a Catholic deliberately disobeys the rule against eating meat on a Friday, and dies unrepentant, God tortures that person continuously forever in hell. 'Guideline' is not the right word.

Animals in factory farms are miserably mistreated. Veganism has many health advantages; it causes less global warming, and it's good for animals.
Just to let you know that eating meat isn't morally neutral.

@freshhh1994
Around here at least, veganism isn't linked to religion.
toppinzr 1 year ago
@toppinzr Actually, it is morally neutral. We are natural omnivores. Many creatures only eat the flesh of other creatures, and will kill their prey in much crueler fashons at times. Does that make them evil? Of course not.
One thing vegetarians forget that without the meat industry, Cows, Chickens, Pigs, Sheep, Goats, etc would all quickly become endangered species. No-one would want to keep them, and most of them wouldn't survive in the wild!
Also a balanced diet is healthy! And yummy!

@812LJ, your scripture, words of another, has no meaning regarding your 2 cents !@ yedrow, your statement of reasoning regarding atheism concludes no factual evidence as does your brain regarding Christianity.

You are wrong by nature of the fact that morality is impossible to argue as a fact, the way you are arguing it. Why is it wrong to kill an innocent person? What is innocence in the first place. The sin is the breaching of an order, a dictate that is in question. Morality is such a dictate, or, it is a genetic imperative, in which case it is meaningless.
I do agree with you that the church looses credibility when it issues and maintains such dictates. The sin though, remains the same.

edwardtarte 1 year ago 14
@edwardtarte Actually, this is incorrect in that it presumes atheists to be a monolithic group. In my experience, 99% of all atheists are members of what could be called new age cults. They are at best anti-Christian, regardless of the subterfuge and equivocation used. Either you worship yourself or your worship god. In worshiping yourself you call yourself god. The human mind, as a matter of genetic survival, always elevates some thing to deity status. There are no perfect monks either.

@MasterofDisaster17 I'm afraid that our knowledge of what we do and who we are is limited by the fact that you can't accurately judge a system from within the system. A true atheist would live an let live, not elbow his or her way into the tent shouting out their holy tenets and claiming superior (divine) knowledge.

Sampson2012bot 1 year ago
Just a general comment...I often hear atheists say "we all have only one life to live" That, in my opinion, is nearly impossible. Think of it this way: Our existence proves that "something" has always existed. Furthermore, through no action of our own, we (our conscious identities) arose out of that "something" I think most scientists would agree that "something" will always exist. Now, consider that any time spent unconscious will pass instantaneously (like a dreamless sleep)...continued
ThePopeII 1 year ago
cont...so, when you factor that: "something" will always exist + our conscious identities can arise out of that "something" + time spent unconscious passes instantaneously = After we die we will IMMEDIATELY become aware of our next conscious state, whether that be reincarnation, union with God, or some other bizarre state we can't even imagine.
ThePopeII 1 year ago
Pope, what you say makes no sense to me.There is no evidence that any of the following have life after death:spiders, cockroaches, oysters, cows, humans.
edwardtarte 1 year ago
Well, its all about conscious identity. How would we know if any spiders, cockroaches, cows, etcs. have the same conscious identity as any previous lifeforms? Humans on the other hand have many reincarnation stories...some are very convincing. How could they be proven?? You would have to somehow determine where our "identity" is in the brain and see if it matches any new creature...it would be extremely difficult to prove, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.
ThePopeII 1 year ago
cont..I mean, our conscious identities are a scientific reality. We are experiencing consciousness. The entire brain is not our identity because people can suffer brain damage and still be the same individual. And even though we can observe brain activity, actual conscious experience itself is not physical...could it be that our identities are not physical? (aka soul)

Agnosticism is suspending judgment due to lack of evidence. Atheism is assuming that you have enough evidence to disprove God. It's just as extreme an assumption as believing there is one. "If atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair color, and 'off' is a TV channel."
Excellent analogy. Talk about pearls before swine!

Okay, Jews never eat pork. Muslims also never eat pork. Hindus never eat beef. but people have a problem with the Catholic Church because they don't want you eating meat on Fridays only?
TenderTrap86 1 year ago
@TenderTrap86 its because in the religions you listed, there is an actual.. credible reason as for why you shouldn't. not eating meat on fridays seems like some random thing the writers of this "holy book" came up with.
i think the huge start of atheism and its rapid spreading is that people are more intelligent now than when religion had first been proposed. we have more rational minds, and people are beginning to see the contradictions and bullshit of the "holy bible" catholics.. youre beat.

Psa. 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Psa. 49:10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
Psa. 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

Psa. 94:9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?
Mal. 2:10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man
against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?
Psa. 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Yes, but who gave you a conscience to be good?
I will tell you, GOD.
mishakol129 1 year ago

Your god is an awful god.

The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

well an egg is called 1 egg but it has three parts the shell, the yoke, the whites
majorl31 1 year ago
Is that where they got the idea for the trinity I wonder?
Yes but the egg doesn't rule over anything or tell you how to live. You can see an egg. You don't need faith to believe that an egg is there.
Ilikejpgs 1 year ago
Did you know that God doesn't force you to believe he wants people to find and love Him on their own.
No the egg was simply a way to explain the trinity
majorl31 1 year ago
Yes I knew that. Did you also know that if we don't find him and love him that he will torture us forever after we die. That is some real love right there.
Ilikejpgs 1 year ago 2
God has said that he wants no one to perish but that all should come to repentance,Jesus paid the price with His life to show that He loves you but rejecting it is up to you
majorl31 1 year ago
Hell is where you when you reject god. I am fine with that but why the fire and torture? Can you answer me that?
Not even church pastors were able to answer that one let's see how well you do.

Jesus paid what price with his life?? Are you trying to be funny or just can't help it?
Jesus hangs on a cross, then accends to heaven to rule the universe for eternity...and you say he's paid the price?? Are you that deluded?
But please, feel free to explain this sacrifice from "god" again!
Then you can explain the wisdom of vicraious redemption??

No one has explained the trinity. They've tried.

God wants us to find him on our own??
Then why doesn't he help when those people have cried, pleaded, and begged him to show them??
I was a Xian for over 50 years. I never saw anything to suggest he was real. He doesn't answer prayers, He doesn't perform miracles, and he hasn't made one appearance in 2K years! Why do you think that is?
I know...do you?
Cootabux 1 year ago
maj...
Lets say they look and look, but find no trace of your god, and no rational logical reason to believe. They are good people, totally honest, and bcuz of their honesty, no reason to believe. What does god do about that? What will he do to them?
I can't wait to see your answer.
Cootabux 1 year ago

Luckily though my parents never dragged me to church or stuffed ideas in my head and when i was 13 i read the bible for the first time and from then on i knew i was a nonbeliever.
stonecoldatheist93 1 year ago 2

You made a very important point about "the age of reason!" That really says it all.
We no longer need superstition in our societies. It worked poorly, even in the primitive societies, but I can see how & why it devlped. But we are far past that now. The adherants to such religious beliefs now, only impedes progress.
Just look at these comments from the obsessed. It's easy enough to see how deluded they are, & how badly they want us to be a part of it!!

"Calling Atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color" ~Don Hirschberg:
A meaning Not and Theism meaning whom has the belief in at least one deity. Piece it together...
I ask that you look up the definition of the word Religion and try to find away to make Atheism fit.
Edward keep up the good work sir. I thank you for sharing your inside knowledge. Thumbs up!

If there is no God then why do we exist?
There would be no point in living if there wasnt an afterlife, or if people were not repaid for what they have done in this life.
What difference does it make then if I am a murderer, or a saint if there is no heaven or hell?
There would be no point in living
mishakol129 1 year ago
Mish, you couldn't be more wrong. Since this is the only life we have, let us treasure it while we have it, and make the most of each day. Let us love others, do good to others, help them to have good and decent lives. Let us treasure the world around us, find out what we can about it and about ourselves.

Matter is eternal. It can't be creted nor destroyed, but since you think otherwise and the devil is real, please prove it! Present your evidence! Don't just make wild assertions, prove it.
