There is a big difference between Alternative ending and something made for the DVD and this clearly was for the DVD and not intended to be an actually different ending. Look at how minimal the setup is. Just a wall, some barrels and their clothes are clean and he is holding his hand after he dies? There are no other people and the gun shots sound like ta gun game at a State Fair. When they do stuff just for the DVD they keep things very basic to not spend much money.
