Karras was mad...but a mad genius. He was the one who built Garret's mechanical eye at the end of Dark Project, and this is why he has tried to kill him knowing that only the master Thief would have been able to stop his plans...as he did in fact.

Just finished this game again for the who knows which time.

Ugh can be a very trying on your patience, but these little cutscene gems always made it worth it.

=/ very depressing, very perfect end, the way he cups the remains of the rust gas, of Viktoria, and finally accepts what Artemus has been trying to tell him. Just listen to the emptiness in his voice at first. Such an amazing game

Thief II is the result of an absolutely excellent storyline mixed with amazing atmosphere, frightening, and yet propelling the player to proceed to stop the madness of Karras. This story blows the scripting of many films away, it's just that damn good!

Ahhh, Thief II: The Metal Age. Such a wondrous sequel. The relevant plot design compared to the last game, the change of character, a memorable villain, the quotes...such a wonderful sequel. I'm sure the guys that used to work at Looking Glass Studios are proud of their final game and how successful it would become.

I find it interesting how Garrett adapts to his environment or world changing. He is very adaptive by how at the end of the first game he uses the Mechanist's mechanical eye and uses other tools from the factions.

But then comparing the first ending to the second, Garrett is at first disturbed by the Keeper's. He say's, "I'm through with heroics", "Now I remember why I left the Keeper's", but in the second ending he says, "Tell me more."

Ironic because he had an empathy for Victoria in the 2nd

karras is sitting in a save chamber right? and his robots are not activated yet...i mean the gas? so where does this gas at 1:01 come from? and the gas at 1:25-1:28? and why is this robot at 1:50 broken? and what does that becon or however its written do?

Infact let me add that this ending is a dramatic one in comparison to the others.

1st, it lets in on Garetts change of heart. No longer does he selfishly ignores the pleas of those around him.

2nd. Garett returns to the keepers, WILLFULLY.

The entire personality of the main character and the plot goes into a B line the likes of which makes george lucas and his 3 prequels look like spinoffs.

The thing about thief and its writing is that it is " subtle" and you have to think to enjoy.

It's still a pretty good ending in that Karras is defeated and good prevails. I agree it's just a bit disappointing when you are expecting a more close combat big "The Matrix" style ending. but then, that isn't what Thief is all about, and besides, rather than big FMVs, the makers intentionally made most of the story available through the game itself (i.e. hearing karras' conversations etc.).

AdMech would get along better with Hammerites. Mechanists aren't really concerned with keeping technology hidden.

Of course, Hammerites would probably regard AdMech as being overly soft.

In fairness, AdMech are basically a toned-down ripoff of the Hammerites.

Karras is a very well written villain, not meant to follow usual stereotypes. Speech impediment and other traits were meant to make him a special breed of anti-hero, but also a mastermind in its own right, as his masterplan is barely defeated at the end and with great sacrifice.

i hate karras because he ruined the one chance garrett had at love. he dosent relate to normal women well, he loved viktoria more than anyone, shes probably the only person he has ever or would ever love =).

I agree. Just look at the amount of dialogue that he got in the last level. He reminded a bit of Dr. Breen from Half-Life 2 (One speech in particular was VERY similar) in term of omnipresence.

I agreed with Garret there. "Just keep preaching, Karras."

good comment i noticed that too, and at the end notice the pissed off tone in garretts voice when he asks artemus if it was all written: "all this.. it was written?... viktorias death... and karras.. was that written? in your BOOK?!". it seems to show that he loved viktoria, and that his victory against karras wasnt a happy one for him.
