  • Just started playing, I do the grip slightly differently, but omg spoons are awesome.

  • Thanks man for the best presentation at Youtube of playing spoons! Im a swedish jazzmusician here studing ceili. You are a true musician and it would be an honor having a jam with you in the future.

  • Very Nice! Thanks!

  • ugh i just cant get the grip

  • this is badass! Love it.

  • Is that a utilikilt?

  • He learned this in some Backroom Poker game cuss the Old man that owed him money was broke

  • man you are so awesome. thanks dude!

  • Worse than bagpipes and much easier to learn! Excuse me while I go and practise some more...

  • one of lifes mysteries solved for me! Thanks very much

  • Wow, I was doing it completely backwards. Literally. Thanks, man! Now I feel awesome

  • LOL i found this cause i looked up 'playing the spoons' because i was listening to spoonman, and i now have a new hobby! :D thanks so much bro!

  • you rock \m/ I like man with the skirt :D

  • My grip was all wrong! Thank you for the great lesson!

  • this is looking totally easy but i bet it´s not :D i´ll try it tomorrow ;)

  • You've got some great talent, and a good pair of spoons. I keep a variety of them, but it's hard to find a pair that have a nice "ring" to the sound that can be heard during your playing.

When I play, I grip the spoons over and under my 1st finger. I'll experiment with your method for holding them and see how that works. Nice work.

  • Another great demonstration Vash - nice work and keeping it simple. You'd fit right into a jam session anywhere in the world !

  • 50,000th view :)

  • great video, great music instrument, i learned to play and hold spoons very quick, its not so hard :D Thanks for demonstration

  • I like your video

  • Now I have to go and try this...... and of course I am obsessive compulsive, so I will be this for weeks till I get..

    But very cool indeed!

  • very nice

  • innate. lol, i forgot an 'n'

  • WIN!

  • Thanks for this awesome video!

    And nice kilt ;)

  • You explain the playing of the spoons verry well. I'm not very good at the spoons across the fingers part but I have never had trouble with the other stuff. I love to play the spoons with good canadian music. My friends tell me that I have good rhythm.

  • is that a kilt?

  • that is soo cool, i think i want to try.

  • thx for this vid. I've been trying it out today. Pretty cool :)

  • Great stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks man. Gonna start practican my spoonan.

  • Very Impressive thanks for sharing

  • eh, it's not for everyone.

  • u rock. spoons rock. whoever plays spoons is gangster.

    period.

  • The sadder thing is, you'll never get the 30seconds back you wasted making that comment.

  • @HeyThatsMyBike the cool thing about youtube is it takes like 30 seconds to realize whether or not a video is worth watching, and then if it isn't you can stop it and go watch cats ride roombas, or asian hicks make out, or whatever you're into. Four minutes and thirty seconds of that were your fault, bro.

  • @MarlonOwnsYourCake nice speech bro

  • @HeyThatsMyBike the sad thing is how much of a cunt you are

  • Great teaching - thanks! Can you post another close up on your hands?

  • Great lesson. Very clear!

  • Its videos like this, that are the reason YouTube is great.

Thank you man, for the lessons, and another seemingly inate abilty to make make my friends wonder why i know how to do this stuff.

  • HAHA, thanks for the kind words. Always happy to help!

  • @crassdrinks Did u mean inane or innate? spellcheck and a dictionary does wonders.

  • @crassdrinks its videos like this that make youtube STILL be great. After all those gay-ass remodelations, this are the only things that keep youtube on its feet.

  • This video was really helpful! :)

  • There's only one thing greater than spoons. And that would be a kilt!

    Kilts kick assss!

  • Thank you!

does anyone play Colombian music with spoons?

  • I am not aware of anyone using spoons specifically to accompany Colombian music. But you could be the first!

  • haha yes! this is amazing. my new goal for summer vacation is to become amazing at spoons.

this was a really good tutorial, i'd never seen anyone play spoons before and this already helped me get going with stuff like the gallop effect (which is frickin awesome).

  • Thank You!!! I had tried before w/ a different grip & couldnt get it. Your grip is much better . Thanks for making this vid 5++

  • This made so much sense!! I just changed my grip like you showed, and all of a sudden my spoons sound great. Thanks!!

  • this video kicks ass

  • thanks dude

  • I saw a man playing spoons at Hardees. My little nephew was fasinated with him. Wanted to get him a set of them. Ran across this video in the search. Was very cool!

  • Great ! I was looking for a good spoons tutorial, and I found it here... At last !

    Thanks ;)

  • Got myself a pair of rhythm bones today. Found your video covering those. Since you insist on making the spoons look easy too... well, I accept your challenge!

  • I know it's all about experimenting with the grip, but how do you get that single ring sound? When I swing them they rattle against each other and play two beats. I suppose only the top spoon should move?

  • The trick to getting the spoons to ring is holding as little of the spoons as you can manage without losing your grip. Doing so allows the spoons reverberate after they're struck.

  • You are awesome! Such a great teaching vid, you make it look easy, and your sound is great! Thanks for posting.

  • ok this was entertaining AND educational. Ever think of joining STOMP? Wait- you can start your own sensation- SPOON! ha ha- well you can try...pretty cool my man

  • I've been cruising for a while on YouTube tonight looking for spoon lessons. Yours is the best by far. Thanks for explaining so clearly!

  • way to go man!! this was my favorite of all the learn to play spoons video!! most helpful!!! it is a great start!!! thanks!!

  • keep it up spoonhead

  • Thanks Vash,

Very useful 4 start having fun with spooning around.

  • awesome dude! I saw some players now and I always wondered, how they produce these sounds with just two spoons. Now I know and i can even try myself. Thanks a lot and five stars fpr you

  • yay! thank you so much! you're helping me pass my music theatre exam. I have to play the spoons whilst singing O Susanna and I didn't know how to play them until I saw your video!

    and your funny.

  • Pretty fucking sick! :D

  • Uber

  • Thanks for posting this! Awesome!

  • Mate your stuff is awesome.

You play really well, teach very well indeed and I love the fact you stick 'bald' as a tag on your videos!

    Great job.

  • Great job! I love playing the spoons, havent done it since I was a kid, having issues with my rake for some reason, I am really rusty. My kids have all the spoons out now bagging them together. They got one of my real silver ones, wouldn't recommend it if you plan on using them to eat on, they are soft and now have dents and scratches!

  • I was telling someone online about how I used to play spoons back in the 70s, and while looking for a video to show him what it sounded like, found this video. You've got all my old moves, but actually named them. hehe

It's great seeing someone play so well. It's a dying skill. Maybe I should go dig out my ol' long handled teaspoons and knock the rust off of 'em. :)

    Thanks for the awesome video.

  • Thank you for the informative video. Very well done...who woulda thunk it?! Keep it up and thanks again. LOVED your solo video btw.

  • very cool, now that i know what a rake is, i can play now, i was wondering how you got a "roll" duh! now i can really get after it, and now im hungry for cereal.......
