  • This is the best video I have ever seen in my life, an award is in the works!!!

  • Dude that guy is a genius :D

  • nice stick-cam

  • @politicalpictures Thanks, it works great. Can stick it on the end of a 30-foot painting pole too.

  • @cgrusden thats awesome not a steadicam.

  • love the video very funny

  • @elliotberg Thanks! We shot it with very little editing since we hate doing that sorta thing ;)

  • I think you should change the title to $9 DIY Steadicam IDEAL for iPhone because you can get the same results with a $10 tripod.

  • @defnyung You can probably get the same results with a tripod, but how are you going to connect the tripod to the iPhone4? Surely there are things out there "now" that can do it, but for $4 you get a rubber protector around your phone as well as being able to attach it to a 30ft boom easily and cheap. a 30ft Tripod would be quite insane :)

  • @defnyung Im sure you can, but i'm not going to tote around a tripod

  • Good but too long, ppl have short attention spans, you had over 3 minutes of goofing around the hardware store listening to your friends foul swearing and only seconds of the actual S-Cam in use. Good idea though.

  • @Skymaxy True, we didn't want to put too much into the video since we wanted to build it and get on with our day... so I left a lot to be edited out unfortunately. It was fun no less

  • Not bad!

  • @JamesWorley Thanks!

  • Yea bump that bitch 1 time and its gonna be bouncin down tha street like a hot potatoe!!!

  • @sethy587 The phone survived many times, it was impressive!

  • Not really a steadi cam just like a handle so you can get low, its an excellent idea, most steadicams have gyros or gimbals .

  • @distortedlife55 Correct, this was the day after the iphone4 came out.. wanted to do something. Most of the "diy steadicams" on youtube for anything includes a homemade gimble, but the chances of making a good one are slim to none.. Anything that we could do THAT DAY was ideal. I was tired of looking at things that required me to order shit online... thanks for the compliment on the idea

  • @cgrusden I actually made one similar to yours but I used just a standard phone holder, and bolted it to a broom handle works pretty good!

  • @distortedlife55 Love the idea

  • @cgrusden Actually, you should be able to buy most things for the home-made gimbles in most local stores... most major sporting good stores carry skateboard bearings which is the main ingredient for a gimble. Check out my $35 DIY Steadicam Merlin video for info on it.. its actually really easy to make one... and shouldn't take more than a minute to put one together.

  • @DrJoshD

Hi, do know a really compact home made steadycam for iphone 4?

  • @s4lezardv Nope. Haven't seen any... but technically you could make a merlin thats really small and just mount the iPhone 4 on it...

  • @DrJoshD

Hunn, okay then. And did you aready test a app called MOVIE STILLER on apple store? It stabilize the video recorded on iphone 4/3GS. Im still testing it.

  • @s4lezardv I actually have an Android phone... do they make it for Android? Honestly, with a merlin you probably wont need a stabilizer app.

  • @s4lezardv Great tip! I am checkoing out Movie Stiller right now!

  • @distortedlife55

No, most steadicams do NOT have gyros. Gimbals yes, but not gyros. Take a look at the Steadicam Merlin...

  • putting it into the coupling.. doesnt it make it so you cant really see your iphone screen to see what your recording?

  • @fender awesome dude! let me know if you have any questions yo!

  • Yesssssssssss! This is perfect for longboarding! I have been wanting to find a solution!

  • Hey guys, great video. I am not sure I quite understand how the steadycam works when it's all put together. Does the plumbing coupling just dangle down? Does gravity provide the steadying? It doesn't seem there would be enough weight. It seems that the camera in the coupling would swing quite a bit.

Please show a video close up of how the steadycam works in practice.

Also from watching the video I can't tell what you were doing around 2.40 with the knife.

  • @davidhopkins With the knife, I'm creating a notch so when I slide the camera in, the volume buttons aren't pressing down -- but it really doesnt do much good these days since now I just jam my phone into the plumbing and say "fuck it" and let the volume buttons do whatever they need to do

As far as the plumbing goes, I *did* end up using some gaffers tape (you could use duct tape too) to tape the plumbing on the bottom part of the paint stick. This way it keeps it stable etc, hope this helps
