ok man, Im am no mormon, I Believe in Christ and God's Word The Holy Bible.
But I will give you a couple things to ponder, Language Changes, New Translations of Books and Bibles Change....
So when one Bible may specifially mention "silk" It may just mean something of the time that was like todays known silk... Not saying this is that case...
But more importantly...
Dont just pick apart anything because of the language used to communicate it.
Well, the difference is that the whole Mormon religion is baised on a literal interpretation. So if it can't be taken literally then the whole argument is void.
Do you condemn women to in that case. Religion is a means to an end with a reason to look past death. With out that there is no real reason to live ones life. Humanity would have absolutely no per pus and would be the same as cockroaches.
Don't really get the connection between women and religion being the motive of many individuals to do the horrible things they think is what their god wants them to do. But anyways..don't mean to offend anyone. If religion gives you strength..go nuts. As an atheist, its easy to see the futility of it all. But, I used to live in the US, and I get the strong religious beliefs...and I'm cool with it, just don't expect everyone to see eye to eye. :)
You don't have to believe in a specific faith, it's tenets or version of God to be spiritual. Just accepting that there is some 'power' that transcends humanity is enough. Science and supernatural elements (empiricism vs, faith) are not incompatible either. You just have to live with the idea that we don't have, and maybe never will have, all the answers :O)
Don't forget, 'history is written by the victors' . So take all stories, holy books and 'facts' with a huge pinch of salt.
God puts things down in scripture to follow, not to take it how you like and say "well, I believe it this way & not that way"
God is all power & will not lower to the standards of a weak human mind to let you believe how you want to believe it & you will be fine in his eyes... You have free will to believe what want, but there is only 1 door to heaven & thats through Christ! There are trillions of doors to hell & creating your own beliefs is 1 of them...
Thats what I have heard. But isn't that what all the denominations have done? First it was Roman catholic then that split up, then it was the protestant reformation, now we have hundreds of denominations, including the LDS church. Each of these groups created their own beliefs. How do I choose?
Follow the scripture! The bible... Forget religion & just seek the correct path. Religion will not get you anywhere, but you following the scripture the correct way will... then you are doing it the way God established it to be. Just get to know Christ that's what God wants... Forget the negatives of man, cause man is not who you seek. Once you start following him, God will lead you the way in a misterious way... There are nondenominal churches you can visit later on if you wanna know more
Follow the bible. Get to know Christ & God will lead you the way. Forget add on books & read the main. Christ said you cannot get to the the father if not throgh me. God will see your intentions and guide you... Trust that. I recommend a nondenominational church for you
Your first mistake was letting them through your door - never let a salesman or religious nut in your house. 2nd - don't bother reading any religious book - it's all superstitious nonsense - read a scientific book instead, or at least a book that admits that it's fiction. I assume you don't believe in Santa Claus anymore, well, all the religions teach nothing more than a more sophisticated forms of Santa Claus for adults. I like your style of presentation - excellent.
Its too bad you have to compare God to Santa Claus! Thats between you & him... Blasphame is unforgivable... God created science! He could've put you to live in a country where you are forced to believe Allah or something crazy like that. God gave you life & free will... He's merciful & enough to forgive you, but if you were to die in your disbelief you will spend eternity where you will be tortured & not Obama can save you.. Is it worth not believing???
Allah is just another name for God. If you don't believe in Allah you will be tortured etc., so is it worth not believing in Allah? According to you, God, who is supposed to be merciful, will send me to a place where I will be tortured forever, because I don't believe in him? Merciful? No, cruel, vindictive and sadistic! Finally, tell me the difference between God and Santa Claus - children realise that Santa isn't real, and thoughtful adults come to the same conclusion about God.
God does not have to meet your standards... He created you & your theories don't matter at all to him... There will be a judgement day whether you like it or not... I think the Santa claus should be compared to your disbelief in him. He's merciful, but God is king of kings & will not be afraid to send you to hell. He gave you your whole life to believe & you think that standing in front of the book of life you will be accepted in open arms??? His laws will not bend nor break. Sorry
You people keep telling me that your magic imaginary friend who lives in the sky is going to punish me, no, TORTURE me FOREVER because I don't believe in him. Not one of you tries to counter my very clear reasoning or answer my simple questions. Tell me, what is the difference between believing in God, Allah or Santa Claus?????? And, Sir you are dispicable for trying to coerce people into accepting your superstitions by threatening them with torture!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Just telling it like it is man...
Answer this.. If I were to answer would you give your life to Christ? Probably not.. God will not answer such stupid question & and sure enough wouldn't...
God, Allah and Jehovah are all the same but in different religions. but basically same Beliefs. Santa Claus was a human that lived at one time but he died like all the rest of us will. If you choose not to believe thats your own prerogative but if religion is true and not some made up shit then well sucks to be you. but if its not then the believers are not out any thing but a dream.
I basically agree with you, but Santa Claus is also a belief - there is no real difference if you think about it. The only difference is that most of us stop believing in Santa Claus - some of us take it further and stop believing in the gods as well. I also believed in God when I was a child, until it became clear to me that it was only a myth invented by men, a long time ago, to explain the world. They didn't know any better.
Or you don't know any better and they know the truth, but at this day and age its all opinion. Death will bare the truth of what has been written to all. I don't know if I am being redundant my last comment did not look like it went through.
On the contrary, read ALL religious books and talk to people from all faiths. Eventually you'll be informed enough to have a qualified opinion. My experience is that, yes, they are all kind-of nuts, but some of them are happy and even harmless ;O)
Very interesting. As a history major, I had to write an analytical paper on the Mormon Church. I decided to concentrate extensively on the life of Brigham Young considering he elevated the Mormon Church to the status we see today and of course Joseph Smith Jr. Some of their philosophy is mind boggling, like the issue of polygamy, which of course is now condemned by the church. As a historian, accepting philosophies based on metaphysical arguments is very difficult to digest, but worth considering
and i have mormon guys come to my house every few weeks. but the walk away after i bring up that im Christian. i guess you got the only 2 that listen to other people.
I will finally be getting a bike in Mid to late Dec or early Jan. im gettin a 06' Ninja 636 from a friend for about $4800. But im not holding my breath cause ive been having car trouble lately and may run out of money.
To truly understand religion one must first become excluded from these beliefs. Take a skeptical approach when ever you are approached by new things. I have examined various religions from the mainstream to the unknown and have come to the conclusion of the non existence of god. There is just no scientific evidence to support the claims of these religions. I will keep an open mind until this evidence is presented. For now i will stay godless and free.
If you've ever been unconscious, then you'll know that there isn't anything to think about... it's simply lights out.
Death is a fact of life & is part of the deal. People can't seriously expect to exist indefinitely, that would be awfully presumptuous imo. Many seem to lose sight of the fact that there's a cycle to life & nature & the universe.
Why people can't accept the concept of beginning, middle & end is beyond me. If we existed forever, all of our flaws would be eternal :-o
We actually have a LDS church in zoetermeer holland. And there actually nice people, along with the jehovas witnesses we also have coming around here. I nicely asked them to put me on a blacklist, since i do not like any religion for various reasons. And they are pritty nice about that, make no problem about it. and that is cool!
There isn't a religion yet that holds up to scientific scrutiny. Heck, take the Noah's Ark mythology, not hard to figure out that there are billions of flightless insect species alone and factor in things like logistics, genetic bottlenecking, undiscovered species, impossible rainfall model, lack of geological record, and so on. So they definitely can't be singled out for that. I think they prefer to be called LDS rather than mormons though.
I think most Christians pick and choose what to take as literal fact. ex. the vatican's acceptance of evolution. But the LDS religion is based on the Bible as Literal fact.
I dunno, we have a LOT of creationists here in Texas. My coworker is one for example, but an awesome, friendly, and helpful dude. So I don't worry about trying to use cold logic when it comes to spiritual beliefs or pit one against another to see which makes the most outlandish claims.
As long as peeps are happy and don't wanna make human sacrifices or exert influence on ya, best to support em imo. =)
I can't wait for part 2. I had a friend that was mormon and I have watched plenty of documentaries on that religion...I wont believe in it, but the people are generally nice.
