  • the origin of "voguing". Also check out Bill Bailey for the moonwalk.

  • Hahaha great!! :D Chaplin and Keaton were both phenomenal actors. I was going to make a Chaplin video to one of Jackson's faster songs but I wasn't sure which one.

  • @CharlieChaplinsAngel I think making a vid to one of his faster songs is a great idea. I agree both actors were phenomenal. (:

  • O M J What a funny video: all craftmen at work, that is why Michael loved them so much...

ThanXXX I sit here laughing and with a SMILE.....

    Marga

  • really … chaplin and keaton were geniuses

there is no reason to connect both with m. jackson who was just a marketing product and a poor failure, humanely speaking …

  • Sir Charles spencer Chaplin, what a brilliant man. Prapper Englishman. RIP

  • i love Michael and charlie Chaplin I've loved both of them i was 2 when i got into Chaplin and I'm 20 now

  • MJ was the king of pop. Chaplin was the king of everything.

  • Keaton and Chaplin will ALWAYS be cool.

  • Man i love Charlie Chaplin those r 1 of my favorite black and white videos.

  • Some sick breakin' at 0:30... but seriously, Keaton is great without the MJ track.

  • something about this video i really really like

  • I love this stuff, his dance is amazing to see. He was years ahead.

  • what movie was the dancing Buster from?

  • Soooo ...Jackson stole it from Chaplin ???

  • This is crap! You've just reversed the original movie. He never went backwards only forwards. Pfft waste of time

  • luv the pat where the wife had no comment!! lolz

  • LOL .........

  • Just fabulous; I grew up watching Chaplin and the likes of Buster Keaton & the Keystone cops because they were always a part of Saturday morning kids tv in the UK during the 60's and early 70's. Chaplin was a genius, if you read his story about how he reinvented himself for Hollywood - he was such an interesting man - and he still makes me laugh today. Thank you so much for sharing this my friend and yes I can see some of Michael's moves in there L.O.V.E xxx

  • LOVE the speech bubbles!

"I wanna see you moon walk! I wanna, I wanna, I wanna!"

"Patience, my dear. By the end of the video you will be left breathless."

And indeed I was. But not enough to not tell you how much I love it!

  • @LilbunUWiz You are the first to comment on the speech bubbles!

You're too kind! Good luck to you in all your endeavors!

  • Wow George..so great!! Do it again! Did you see the Laurel and Hardy one? Funny too. Excellent work!

  • Charlie Chaplan and Billie Jean...What!!

  • The words most blatant pedophile Michael Jackson also stole the moonwalk from Marcel Marceau. That`s why I don`t get the fanatacism with MJ..Besides him being a blatant pedophile, everything he did was ripped off from other people, James Brown especially, and most of the hits he had were written by other people. It`s crazy, I really don`t get the fascination with that guy.,

  • @JamesTKirkCobain you don't get it. you MUST be able to see the talent he had. Marcel "stole" from Chaplin. Chaplin "stole" from his Vaudeville idols. every artist is inspired by someone else but what makes them great is when they are able to make it into their own thing and take it to another level. you can think what you want about any of em but you cannot deny they all had an incredible talent that cannot be re-created.

  • GO CHAPLIN! GO CHAPLIN! IT'S UR BIRTHDAY! IT'S UR BIRTHDAY!

  • I love Them... MJ , CC , BK...

    Smile! LO.V.E.

  • Идея хорошая, а темп в видео не задан. :-(

  • Jefferey Daniels (from Shalamar) is the one who made the moonwalk.

  • I wish they we were both still here with us... :(

  • bad ass!

  • Nepainiokime aktorių su dainininkais... /actors not equal to singers:-( (but inthis video they look similar :-) )

  • @vendieh41 I'm glad you enjoy and appreciate the effort! Thanks for commenting.

  • i love chaplin nd keaton bt charlie will always be my favorite

  • they're both my heroes.!

  • @Jorindevil amen devil guy!

  • question:

Where did the Buster Keaton clip come from?

I'd love to watch the film/short.

  • part of that same clip seemed to show Fatty Arbuckle. I thought I'd got the "complete Keaton shorts" via Amazonm, with one DVD of the set full of Arbuckle/Keaton shorts, but that clip's new to me - it seems there's still some more bits to add!

  • Wow man, Chaplin did invent the moon walk! Nothing is new is it. Well done.

  • Fantastic. Michael new how to choose a source of inspiration. Charlie Chaplin would be happy to know that Michael looked upon to him. Amazing. I love them both.

  • MJ had exactly the same way to move! We can't deny! I respect him but chaplin was a genius!!!

  • Buster's got some moves!

  • aka Buster's bustin some moves. Buster was my fave when young tween CC and he. Love em both now. ~cg

  • When I found out that Mike was kinda' old fashioned and liked people like Chaplin, just like me, I was really happy, 'cus then we have more in common :D

    MJ and CC, wonderful artists!

  • They were both incredibly gifted. ~cg

  • Absolutely fabulous - Michael would have loved this ....

    Thank you for sharing

    L.O.V.E.

  • Thank you. I sure hope he would have. He probably would have at least *smiled* (:

  • Beautiful montage , I love Buster Keaton .

  • 'preciate the comment. Buster was my favorite slap stick comedian when I was a youngster. He simply made me laugh. Also love him 'cause he did all of his own stunts. ~cg5

  • mj said charlie chaplin inspired him when it came 2 dancing

  • Yes MJ did. it seems that many think I'm saying this is an actual moonwalk. I wrote "kinda"- He is walking forward. I also said it's a comedy sketch. I did it months b4 MJ died - I can see moves MJ got inspiration from (as you said) in CC's dancing ( not necesarily this but who knows for sure?). - Maybe this inspired someone somewhere and it was *part* of what eventually turned into the Moonwalk and maybe it didn't.

It is what it is. It's not meant to be spot on serious. Thanks for commenting!

  • They were backsliding (real term for moonwalk) in the 30's. Look up 'origins of the moonwalk' or 'bill bailey'

  • MJ didn't take moonwalk from CC. He just had very very good dance teachers. Some of the teachers teached moonwalk to MJ. That's how moonwalk was done. And thats not even close to moonwalk.

  • Charlie Chaplin is so cool!

  • lol MJ even had similar movements to him aswell.

  • I believe the same thing. MJ is known to have loved CC. It is no stretch to think that he watched him quite a bit. MJ was a genious at dance IMO. Why is it so hard to believe he picked up moves or inspitation for moves from CC. I have a lot of footage of CC. I can see some subtle moves that I have little doubt MJ incorporated into his dancing. ~cg

  • charlie the great

  • jajaja so funny

  • rien avoir sa fait pitier

  • ooohh.... so jackson really got moonwalk from charlie... lol both my idol

  • THATS NOT THE MOONWALK YOU IDIOT !!!!

  • calm down, an infamiliarity with a dance move isn't a direct assault on mj.

  • I'm very familliar with the moonwalk. I know this is not the moonwalk. And yes this is not an assault om MJ at all.

I respect the man very highly for his skills as a dancer and performer. He was truly gifted.

  • f u

  • I adore both Michael and Chaplin xD...

  • and michael adored children, a little too much...lol could'nt resist!

  • i cant understand you haters, whats the matter with you? believing the fucking tabloids, you sheep

anyway great vid, MJ and CC 4ever legends!

  • Comment removed

  • and u are a nobody, this is the difference between u and this two legends

    RIP to both

  • LOL Thanks! :D

I am a fan of both Chaplin and Jackson, and hearing that Michael also loved Chaplin was a big relief, I feel closer to him by that :') always in our hearts Mike and Charlie

  • Cool! Glad you got the video! ~cg

  • THANKS, your video is great!

It happens that i 've just seen The Chaplin Film with R. Downey JR as Chaplin, and was stunt by the amount of things Chaplin and MJ shared...How they related to their job, their creativity, sensitivity, lucidity. Realized that Chaplin was the first to be called "the most famous man in the world". Had to deal with unfair scandals, incomprehension, judiciary humiliation, exile...

  • Your observations are spot on dreamingformagic ! Thanks for sharing your insights. ~cg

  • MJ wasnt an idiot. Noone should compare him with Chaplin as they are from 2 different styles. Both are legends.

  • No on should compare them. But whoever who made this didnt compare them. How did thy compare them?

    Just sayin'

  • Haha, what a great video!!

    Made my day!!

  • Glad you got it. May you have many more great days! ~cg

  • The only problem is you cropted this way too much (and hint hint: too obviously)... and can you really honestly call the true "non-edited" chaplain move, a Moonwalk????

  • It was meant to be "cropted" in an obvious manner. If you take a look at what I have written I put moonwalk in quotations or question marks. Please see my full description of the video. I made this well before MJ died (take a look at when I uploaded it). I hold MJ in very high regard as a performer and dancer. I also hold CC in very high regard as did MJ. Thanks for your comment. I hope you enjoyed the video. ~cg

  • product of awesomeness!!

you did a great job dude!

  • Thanks dude. 'preciate the comment! glad you enjoyed it.

    ~cg

  • 2 great artists but MJ did it ...better. i like it more from MJ.

    RIP

  • MJ mastered the Moonwalk...no doubt.

MJ was possibly the greatest dancer of our generation IMO. ~cg

  • cool

  • (-:

    ~cg

  • Thank you very much! That was just what I needed after I watched a few clips of yesterday's funeral which made me sooo sad and the sadness does not seem to go away... but we have to smile though or hearts are aching... Thanks for this clip. It made me smile. All my love goes to Michael and every single person that is feeling pain for this bis loss. rip LOVE YOU MORE MICHAEL!!!

  • We only think these guys invented it because its documented. Bet it happened before film!

  • oh this is so cool. I hope Michael got to see this one.

  • I do too. You never know who is going to see what you have put together. I am happy this makes some people "Smile".

    ~cg

  • ha! you cheated!!! if anything you could have used footage from THE GOLD RUSH (1925) when Charlie "walks against the wind" (that isn't really that strong)... when Black Larsen Opens the door to tell him to get out. THAT was pantomime....AND an example....for instance look up SHALAMAR: Jeffrey Daniel Moonwalk....and THEN see what i mean. ...it's HERITAGE

  • Love the Gold Rush. Love most of what CC did. He was a genious just like MJ was. ~cg

  • CC & MJ both greatest artists for our world. We never forget you.

  • I agree 100%. Both GREAT artists, and they wont be forgotton. ~cg

  • Great work! Love it.

  • Glad to add a little levity to lighten a load in what can be a heavy world at times. ~cg

  • Great video! Interesting info. Keep up the good work! Totally 5 Stars!

  • Thanks so much and glad you enjoyed the vid' and info. ~cg

  • damnit i love charlie chaplin!!

  • I'm hearing you. ~cg

  • it omoz look a moonwalk..

  • omoz

  • Just great! Thanks!

  • Glad you enjoyed it. YW. ~cg

  • muitoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!! amuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • holy shit. I'm a big Charlie Chaplin fan. Not like a real fan and know everything but I enjoy his movies very much. And I've seen almost all of them I think. And I never noticed. lol. Maybe I should have just played some music.

  • (-;

  • I love CC.....Another great song and video jack...you are cool...RIP MJ......

  • Me to redwhitch17. They both had incredible talent. RIP MJ and CC

  • Nice comment. Thank you. ~cg5

  • people who know alot about MJ also know how to spell Billie Jean right ^^. And this wasn't much of a moonwalk, but similar to another walk move Michael does

  • I guess MJ was inspired by chaplin, keaton, mime marceau, astaire...and even the real moon walkers...and then He inspired almost every dancer afterwards ...Master Jackson is the missing link...anyway a Star is born

  • Indeed. No idea why my previous comment was thumbed down though? People have issues I guess, I didn't even say anything negative

  • he is moonwalking

  • This was well done... and only a true MJ fan would know how much MJ loved CC.

  • Yes. People that know a lot about Michael knew he loved Chaplin. Thank you. ~cg

  • meeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaann .

  • Cool vid - Charlie Chaplin moonwalking.

  • Well done! I have always had a very special place in my heart for Charlie Chaplin. Even way back when racism was the accepted & encouraged norm, he spoke out against it and its ills.

The man was so passionate, compassionate, talented and wise.

Just like the young boy who would emulate him some 50 years later.

RIP Charlie & Michael. When I get to heaven, I hope to be able to grab tickets to one of your vaudevillian tours!

  • well said. ~cg

  • I just loved this :')

  • vg video, thanks. Nice to see CC dancing on Billie Jean...did they meet, MJ and CC ?

  • YW. No they did not meet. MJ wanted to buy a home Charlie Chaplin used to own but was denied. Michael loved Chaplin. He was inspired greatly by him. If you search the net you will see photo's of MJ impersonating CC .

  • he gave it the name moonwalk

  • He sure did. ~cg

  • Great!

  • They both were. Thanks for the thumbs up too! ~cg

  • Sorry...I didn't fully read your description.

I see you already know Michael

    did not invent the moonwalk.

  • Michael Jackson did not invent the

    'moonwalk'

The moonwalk was recorded as early as 1955.

Michael says he got the moonwalk

from kids he saw dancing on the street.

    Then he got choreographers to

teach him how it is done.

  • Chaplin was a performer who for about 3 decades was known as the most famous man in the world, yet some 25 years after his extraordinary fame began, he found himself up on charges for a sex scandal he denied until his dying day, and then about a decade later he found himself (literally in his case) cast out and his career ended in the country that had made him famous - America. I wonder if MJ ever realized how closely his career would parallel Chaplin's? To MJ & CC -forgive us. We were fools.

  • That is an extrememely interesting insight. MJ knew and admired a lot about Chaplin. So I assume he knew about the charges against CC. I wonder how much MJ thought about the same thing. Thanks for posting. May we all be more quick to forgive peoples shortcomings. ~cg

  • WoW! How eeriely interesting! CC was truely a genius, but I didn't know about how his career ended. I do know that Michael loved the song "Smile, even though your heart is breaking...", written by the one and only Charlie Chaplin. i saw a very intersting bio on comedians on PBS the other day. It featured Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton Laurel & Hardy and even the comedic partnership of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin. Great stuff!

I honestly don't believe that MJ molested any children, ever!

    ^j^

  • I made this just a couple of months before MJ died. So yeah I found it kinda eerie myself. Things happen for a reason IMO. I am in awe of both of them. Both were talented beyond description. Thanks Choozylady. ~cg

  • que bello Buster! : )

  • sí ~cg

  • We all know Michael Jackson is the best but he learned to do the "moonwalk" aka the backglide from poppin' taco...an 80's sensation dancer

  • no....

    michael inspiration is charlie chaplin.....

he said "everybody knew that charlie chaplin is genius, and he's my inspiration"

  • Yes he did say that. I guess we can't expect people to know some of these things. MJ even dressed like CC in a video I have seen. It's on YT. Thanks for the comment! ~cg

  • Micheal Jackson Inspired by Marcell Marceau which was Inspired by Charlie Chaplin??

  • wtf ?

  • excellent!!

  • Charlie Chaplin got this from Marcelle Marceau.

  • marcel marceau was only 12 when chaplin made this film. he was born in 1923, the movie "modern times" was released in 1935. i'd say marcel got the inspiration from chaplin

  • This is Great! KUDOS & ***** MJ RIP

  • Great video tribute to Michael Jackson though.

  • Thanks deestree . I grew up listening to the Jackson 5. The dude was a genius from the git go. ~cg

  • You've got to be kidding. Right? I know you are. LOOK AT CHAPLINS FEET...he moves heel, toe, heel toe. Michael is SLIDING his feet across the floor. We cann all do what Chaplin did...they call it a field sobriety test when you're stopped by the police for drunk driving...heel, toe, heel, toe. That is NOTHING how the moonwalk actually works. Wow!!

  • deestree, Type in Michael Jackson's Most Funniest Moments Part 1. Look at 0:41. He is dressed as Charlie Chaplin. He really admired him. ~cg

  • It just looks a little bit like it. Look at the way Chaplin prances a lil' after he does his thing. Kinda like MJ IMO. All in good fun! ~cg

  • Actually Michael Jackson did not use this as the inspiration for the moonwalk because Michael Jackson was not the originator of the dance move. The backslide (which Jackson called the moonwalk) was a common hip-hop dance move for more than a decade before Jackson popularized it. Though whoever did originate it may well have used this as an inspiration. But more likely Chaplin was using a common mime called walking against the wind and that was the inspiration for the dance move.

  • Thanks for your post. But I respectfully do not neccesarily agree. Just because others did the backslide before MJ does not mean he din't watch and learn a bit from many different sources on how he may choose to do the backslide or moonwalk. BTW Michal Jackson was a big fan of Charlie Chaplin. ~cg

  • My description makes mention of the origins of the moonwalk. Please give it a look if you haven't. Thanks ~cg

  • 1:44 definitely has some elements common to the moonwalk. The rest of the video he appears to be simply shuffling backwards.

  • It was made for entertainment purposes. Although Chaplin appears to do seomething akin to the backslide or moonwalk the rest is just for fun. There are a few other moves that strike me as a little similar but maybe that's just me. Thanks for posting. ~cg

  • My description makes mention of the origins of the moonwalk. Please give it a look if you haven't. Thanks ~cg

  • inspierd by sir charles caplin....charl iecircleis thankful.

  • Most happy to oblige. ~cg

  • good work there george. wish I could learn how to video edit.

  • I'm sure you could learn! ~cg

  • Espetacular........

  • obrigado ~cg

  • WOW.... Michael Stole from him. Michael u bastard. joke joke

  • being inspired and stealing is two different things jackass!
