i typed in "music to paly when your bestfriend is making out with his girlfriend right behind you and you are on youtube lokking for something to make it awekward" on google, and this came up first... well it worked XD
I think your videos are awesome. I didn't know what a boong was, so I looked it up. So here's some more words to look up: honky, cracker, peckerwood, redneck, white trash. I'm happy to be called any of those. Anyway, I wish I knew how to make fire 101 ways. Awesome.
All you people being foolishly insulting and not paying attention to what this man is saying will be the first to die out should the world become chaotic. I'd rather have this macgyver-esque knowledge so if I have various seemingly unrelated materials on hand, I'll know what I need to put together to make a fire that might just be the difference between me waking up the next day.
wow really informative entertaining video. I was just walking my dog 5 mins ago and i wondered whether if you wanted to make a fire and came across an old used up lighter, whether it was possible to use the ferrocerium in the lighter to somehow facillitate the building of a fire. Anyway i look forward to seeing more of ur videos.
@ROBwithaB Hey Rob. Or is it Bob? Not sure. You seem to me to be really smart guy, and you've got a VERY strong working understanding of fire. The products of wisdom, one might say.
So what I was wondering mate, is how old are you? And which part of SA are you from?
My guess is oak would be a bit too hard. Generally, the softer woods work better. You could get most woods to work, but if the wood is not ideal it becomes very hard work and you'll end up getting exhausted before you get a fire.
Good video Rob - although technically you don't show us how to actually make the fire with this technique (Though choosing the right wood is great info). Any chance of an actual demonstration? :-)
There's actually a part 3 (and possibly 4) to this one that hasn't been posted yet because I lost some footage. Also I'm waiting to film another character. Mundane technical issues. It's actually very easy to make a fire with a hand-held drill like this.
I will definitely post the missing episode/s soon.
Unfortunately this is one of those arguments where nobody knows the answer for sure. Which is a pity, because I love an argument and I love to be right. I think the consensus view, though, is that the modern languages likely to be the most similar to Latin would be Italian and Romanian, and that one could look to their pronunciation for clues.
Hence the letter "I" having a long or short "-ee" sound and the U a long or short "-oo".
@ROBwithaB Well, let me entertain your hypothetical. If you do indeed believe that "Penis" is the right way to pronounce it, than you are in an unimaginably small minority. Some have told me that it is an alternate pronunciation. However, 99.999% of the time, people go with Py-nus. And so they pronounce the family, "Py-Nace-E-A" or an example word Pine. Unless of course, you pronounce Pine "Peen." Furthermore, Py-nus is correct because a vowel falls after the consonant. It makes the "i" long.
I think it depends on where you are and how you learned your Latin. Let us take the following sentence as an example: "Ubi uxor ibi domus" (A tenet of Roman Dutch law in which the domicile of a man is assumed to be that of his wife.)
Most people who learned classical Latin would pronounce it "oobi ooksor eebee dohmooss" (or close enough).
According to your theory, It would become eyebee. For that matter, domicilium would become doe-meye-sigh-lye-umm.
I think it all depends on where you are. In South Africa, our schooling system was based on the Victorian "private" schools. Many of our academics would have studied at Oxford, Cambrdge, etc. This filtered all the way through the system.
In addition to speaking English differently, we also speak Latin differently, vis-a-vis our American cousins.
I think it's weird, and kinda cool, that everyone seems to have their own "correct" way of pronouncing things, when nobody knows for sure.
@ROBwithaB That is also a valid point. The fact that you are in South Africa makes the rules modified a bit. It would certainly be ignorant to say that my American version of English is superior. It's just what I was taught. Regardless, it's easy to figure out what you are talking about by context. Just to be sure, if I ever go on a nature walk with you, I will always confirm that you are talking about trees if I find myself unsure of what you are saying.

But you're welcome to find some other guy who knows 101 methods to start a fire and watch HIS videos instead.
Going on a camping trip soon, I've been watching your videos and I plan on using some of these methods to light my camp fire for a bit of fun, but of course I'll have my trusty zippo incase I fail to breathe fiery life into any wood :)

1. Not cool, leaving random insulting comments.

I've always been taught that its "Pi-Nuss"
