I dig the show and Dan.. not so wild about anyone other than Jared and Barry though.. rest seem to be people paid to boost up the price and being the auctioneer why not get the highest bid.. dude gets paid on a %age. @Gyro911 The previous owner is entitled to any overages. These overages are kept for 1 year and then if not claimed by the owner these overages are handed over to the County Tax collector, What is robbery is when facilities refuse to sell the unit when it brings over the amount of what is owed, they stop the bidding process and close the door and wait to re sell at a later time when there are more charges due against the unit. That is robbery

Each locker auction should not claim more then $1500 dollars but, i'm guessing the storage company justifies selling it for more by paying the auction arbitrator and claiming to lose rent profits for a year by not being able to rent it out to others so they cap the auction to triple the amount of the outstanding rent
@Gyro911 thank of it as just like a repo service. You don't pay and someone takes it. Say you bought a truck for 30,000$ and all you owe is 5,000$ but you stop paying, but the truck is still worth 15,000$, well they aren't going to sell it for 5,000$ because thats all that was owed, they are going to make as much as they can on it.
are the people who owe money allowed to bid? what if the money they owe is worth more than the contents ? they could just buy there stuff back & make a profit on there own debt! ha ha love the show BTW, Especially the guy who brings in midgets & psychics etc, & tell the bald guy to stick to lifting & carrying & have his wife bid instead!

I hate how they make it seem like some skill to bid.. You keep bidding if you have the cash and want the item, eventually someone will give up depending on how bad they want it. It's not a real skill like Dave seems to think it is, he just happens to carry more cash then the other people so when he See's a unit he knows has thousands of dollars worth of stuff he can safely bid up to a couple grand if he needs too, not rocket science. When i look at Darryl i think 'DUH, Freaking DUH!!!`
@afghi420 I guess they try to keep it exciting, as the act of bidding is somewhat thrilling... but it is annoying that they do try to emphasize the bidding too much itself. I can see why Dave can get cocky if he gets something at a low price because he saw something no one else knew was worth money. That Darrel is one stupid bastard. When Dave and Barry were argueing you hear him in the backround saying 'We got a fight!!'. He is one of those morons... By the way bidding isn't rocket science, they all seem to just put up with Dave bidding them up, MAYBE if you started doing it back to him every time he would stop.. Not to burst your bubble, but "Storage Wars" is 100% staged and fake. They are actors and the lockers are not really filled with “other peoples stuff”. They are paid 12k per episode.
what makes the unit abandoned or private? i thought every unit they sold was "abandoned"? Either for failure to pay or other circumstance, death/they chose to abandon it. can anyone elaborate?
@xxxdaedlusxxx Liened units are those units that do not get paid for and must go through a process prior to being sold, Abandoned units or manager units are units that either consist of remnants from all tenants that move out and have stuff to donate or the unit is signed off by the owner giving the storage facility the right to dispose of the property without dinging their credit, There is a greater chance that most of the valuable stuff has been removed prior to auction on an abandoned unit.

Can't understand why everybody hates Dave Hester. I have modeled my business like Dave and have been pretty successful. He is a good aggressive buyer. Storage auctions out here are saturated with buyers(treasure hunters) who have no idea what they are doing. I've been buying from estate auctions the past few months because that's where the real deals are if you aren't a "treasure hunter". Hopefully it slows down so the real buyers can get back into storage auctions without blowing our margins.

Would you believe me if I told you that a guy bought a unit yesterday with some trashy boxes and one trunk in it for 400.00 dollars and found over 20 grand cash in it. Believe it, my wife sold the unit. Things happen all of the time, we just usually don't hear about it or have a camera around to show the world.

This show makes me want to get a bunch of boxes and label them to make people think they are of extreme high value, or even just get a bunch of TV boxes or appliance boxes and make them appear to be un-opened and brand new.. and then I hope Dave finds that locker and spends a fortune on it only to find that all the boxes were filled with trash and notes saying "F*CK YOU DAVE!! Hey Dan....love the show but one question......it seems to me that people leave the most darndest things in storage. What kind of people leave this kinda stuff behind for others to get semi rich off of? I understand deaths and celebrities but the rest, I dont know.
Your question was " why would anyone leave anything of life changing value in a storage unit to be sold for non payment" There are many reasons why people leave things that sensibly could be used to bail their life out of a jam. Why would a celebrity loose their stuff? Maybe they rely on people to keep track and pay.
@CerebralAssassin1977 Maybe sometimes they might put it in someone else s name for a variety of reasons. ie: ex spouse, assistant, family member. When the person that was "in charge" fails, the contents are sold. Sometimes multiple people put things in storage, Sometimes people go to jail or they have an event in their lives that makes whatever crap they have in storage seem like a very low priority

The best thing we found where shares of a company, we sold them for 7000 it was pretty cool we find old money and other stuff.. Depends on how your luck is. sometimes we just find junk... But ys its really fun we have bought a couple of them but only for lik 100 buck and no more some times its not worth it.. Its a really fun bussniss.

I hate how they make it seem like some skill to bid.. You keep bidding if you have the cash and want the item, eventually someone will give up depending on how bad they want it. It's not a real skill like Dave seems to think it is, he just happens to carry more cash then the other people so when he See's a unit he knows has thousands of dollars worth of stuff he can safely bid up to a couple grand if he needs too, not rocket science. When i look at Darryl i think 'DUH, Freaking DUH!!!`

@afghi420 I guess they try to keep it exciting, as the act of bidding is somewhat thrilling... but it is annoying that they do try to emphasize the bidding too much itself. I can see why Dave can get cocky if he gets something at a low price because he saw something no one else knew was worth money. Plus Dave is an ass who bids people up to screw with them, so it gives the viewer someone to hate

That Darrel is one stupid bastard. When Dave and Barry were argueing you hear him in the backround saying 'We got a fight!!'. He is one of those morons... By the way bidding isn't rocket science, they all seem to just put up with Dave bidding them up, MAYBE if you started doing it back to him every time he would stop.. I suppose that would involve some thinking though, and it seems alot of people just can't figure that out.

what makes the unit abandoned or private? i thought every unit they sold was "abandoned"? Either for failure to pay or other circumstance, death/they chose to abandon it. can anyone elaborate?

@xxxdaedlusxxx Liened units are those units that do not get paid for and must go through a process prior to being sold, Abandoned units or manager units are units that either consist of remnants from all tenants that move out and have stuff to donate or the unit is signed off by the owner giving the storage facility the right to dispose of the property without dinging their credit, There is a greater chance that most of the valuable stuff has been removed prior to auction on an abandoned unit.

If they simply tried to film and keep up with the auction action, The viewing audience would miss the "inside the auction " feel. Read around the blogs and post, we film all of the time. real audiences, real bidders, real units.

Can't understand why everybody hates Dave Hester. I have modeled my business like Dave and have been pretty successful. He is a good aggressive buyer. Storage auctions out here are saturated with buyers(treasure hunters) who have no idea what they are doing. I've been buying from estate auctions the past few months because that's where the real deals are if you aren't a "treasure hunter". Hopefully it slows down so the real buyers can get back into storage auctions without blowing our margins.

Would you believe me if I told you that a guy bought a unit yesterday with some trashy boxes and one trunk in it for 400.00 dollars and found over 20 grand cash in it. Believe it, my wife sold the unit. Things happen all of the time, we just usually don't hear about it or have a camera around to show the world.

I liked this show but there was this episode that made me think it was fake when that old guy brought a midget to help him big and the midget said to bid on a storage because he saw a light reflecting glass.. then under all those boxes its a fucken little car in there that shit seemed planned out oh yeah one epsiode they found like all these restauant appliances worth 12k like cmon now WHO IN THERE FUCKEN MIND! would leave 12k of appliances like really REALLY!

This show makes me want to get a bunch of boxes and label them to make people think they are of extreme high value, or even just get a bunch of TV boxes or appliance boxes and make them appear to be un-opened and brand new.. and then I hope Dave finds that locker and spends a fortune on it only to find that all the boxes were filled with trash and notes saying "F*CK YOU DAVE!! PWNED"!!! In fact ill even take a crap in one of the boxes just so he got a little something for his money.

Your question was " why would anyone leave anything of life changing value in a storage unit to be sold for non payment" There are many reasons why people leave things that sensibly could be used to bail their life out of a jam. Why would a celebrity loose their stuff? Maybe they rely on people to keep track and pay.

@CerebralAssassin1977 Maybe sometimes they might put it in someone else s name for a variety of reasons. ie: ex spouse, assistant, family member. When the person that was "in charge" fails, the contents are sold. Sometimes multiple people put things in storage, Sometimes people go to jail or they have an event in their lives that makes whatever crap they have in storage seem like a very low priority

I love the attitudes of each of the main guys.......definately suits the show. Dave is a bit too cocky for his own good though but its more or less probably just for the ratings.

The best thing we found where shares of a company, we sold them for 7000 it was pretty cool we find old money and other stuff.. Depends on how your luck is. sometimes we just find junk... But ys its really fun we have bought a couple of them but only for lik 100 buck and no more some times its not worth it.. Its a really fun bussniss.
