  • @GouledXD This is in Morocco

  • Notice the section starting at 3:21. This is very much like the tremolo technique used by classical and flamenco guitarists. But this person is doing it with a plectrum rather than a right hand finger sequence. Fantastic!

  • @TheMusicalEvents

Greeting Mr Robert, the Oud player is Doctor Nasser Houari

  • @TheMusicalEvents oh and the end of the song is a part of "raqssate al-Atlass" translated as "The Atlas Dance" from the deceased, our big loss, Doctor Abdelkader Rachdi.

Here if you want to listen: original version: /watch?v=R8iBe93mSc8 , remake: /watch?v=UGH3A3ItCSY

  • very nice

  • c'est nacer shamma ?

  • raouaaa

  • excellent taqsim

  • ماشاء الله تبارك الله

  • Awesome playing ! :)

  • His right hand is unbelievable! Now I know where traditional gipsy-guitarists got their technique from - it is Arabic! Take a look at the way Bireli Lagrene or Stochelo Rosenberg hold their flat pick. It is pretty much the same angle and they too reach this frightening rapid speed and precision. Maybe this technique is well developed over some hundred years and thus much more effective than modern flat pick technique. Maybe us rock players should learn from the Arabs and Gipsies...

  • @Fitzliputzli23 Django Reinhardt picks the same exact way.

  • @Fitzliputzli23 Good observation! Ouds were brought to Europe as war trophies from the Crusades, and medieval paintings show lutenists (the word "lute" is a distortion of the Arabic "al'oud") playing at this angle with a quill - I'm sure they got that technique from the Arabs. During the Renaissance the Europeans dropped the quill but kept the right hand angle and played with their fingers, primarily alternating thumb and index, so even that technique is similar to the original oud technique.

  • @ninebreaker21 Historically informed Renaissance lute players use the oud angle. Many are on Youtube. An exception is Julian Bream, who uses modern classical guitar technique, about 45 degrees tilt from the strings! But the oud/lute angle works on classical guitar without fingernails and with gut or Aquila Nylgut strings (no affiliation). Mark Knopfler's fingerstyle technique is probably self-taught, but it's not so different either. And the jazz manouche guys you mentioned do it with a pick.

  • @Fitzliputzli23 gypsies are all of middle east/asian descent and mixed european melodies with their musical roots. and it's easy to play that fast. its all a matter of PRACTICE PRACTICE AND PRACTICE! its always good to see musicians learning from other cultural musical styles. \m/

  • this technique is worth to learn BUT it is difficult palm mute with this playing style (high gain???). I think more important is what you can learn from this musically not technically. Pick angles an picking style- there are lots of different approaches and everyone of them works well for certain things you play

  • @elektriskazivs Oud players dont touch the intrument with their arm because it is too sensitive

  • Nasser Houari is amazing

  • @warrior4just Now is not the time to call insults!

  • @warrior4just .watch your mouth, i love the oud and this video is amazing. don't make judgments unless you wish to be judged yourself.

  • @drewcox010101

what kinda ball crap statement is that, don't make judgement unless you wish to be judged ? r u retarded, or mentally impaired to realize the fallacy of this statement.

  • @warrior4just well you can go and fuck yourself you self important cunt, i was only trying to diffuse that situation but yes i'm going to contradict myself because you are a bastard, i thought this statement would work obviously not, but why don't you take you and your whole "enlightened" self and jump off a bridge, you create arguments by being a cunt. i hate ignorance and i can admit i am ignorant sometimes but you are a good example of a bad human being,

    have a nice fucking day.

  • @drewcox010101

is there any greater shit for brain rotten cunt like u who talks like the cunt what's talking about, well at least u recognize the stupidity of what u said...next time reason before u blur out mental diahrrea.

  • l3ez lmgharba dima mgharba

  • great music

  • Amazing virtuoso

  • Stolen from Faried Al Atrash for God sake this not original

  • @ibbush FOR GOD's sake !!!!!!!! This is not stolen from Farid..it's "Influenced" by Farid's style..the last part (starting in 3.31) is from Raqsat Al Atlas (Abd El Qader Rachdi, Morocco) and the rest is a Taqssim (freeeeee style). It may seem familiar to Farid's style listeners (because of so much tremolo)...but it's not stolen or copied.

  • viva morocco.. nice taqsin beautiful moroccan people

  • where could an australian possibly look to find possibly downloadable versions of music like this, and if your clever some traditional alevi music. its so damn awesome

  • @Grillmouth

    itunes

look up naseer shamma or munir bashier or look up maroc taqseem on google

  • very beautiful - salam

  • ye selem alik ye habibi

  • From 3:20 to 4:00

I can't believe that is being played by just one person.

    Absolutely phenomenal.

  • @caralhosvosfodam u better believe it, ive seen someone play it like that in person, its nothing short of spectacular.

  • @moman007 Where have you seen it?

I'm from Europe, I don't know in which country people have shows of this kind.

  • @caralhosvosfodam To be honest my brother plays as well as this guy, so I see this at home all the time lol. Um... you gotta find an arab or someone of middle eastern descent. Someone from morocco maybe. Im in North America so the only place i could ever see it would be a friend or relative. I have no idea where in europe you could see this kind of performance. You would have to go to the middle east or get lucky in Europe and find someone who plays. You could find it in Egypt/Syria/Lebanon

  • @moman007 What do you think of muslims who say music is Haram

  • @ojideagu Well, they sang a song to the prophet (pbuh) when he entered Madina. That was music. I dont think music is haram, as long as the music is not offensive and the subject matter is appropriate. ie. no swearing or sexual material is mentioned in the song. I dont think music is haram, as long as the music is of a good nature. This taqsim oud is completely appropriate in my opinion. BUT remember, this is only my opinion, I'm not a scholar.

  • @moman007

"My brother plays as well as THIS GUY." Your comment is not appropriate. Mr. Naser Houari is very good player of not just taqasim but also of composed pieces. One should show an respect to artist.

  • @nandiji what are you talking about? how do you know my brother isnt better than this guy? do you know my brother? have you seen my brother play? what gives you any right to say something like that with nothing to back yourself up? Plus, Naser is a damn good player, and my comment was nothing but a compliment. So please save your ridiculous comments for other videos.

  • @moman007

Your brother is, no doubth, also great player, why not?

Your comparation, in my oppinoin, is not in the right place.

  • @caralhosvosfodam

  • @caralhosvosfodam there many instrumental concerts in Europe and Oud is always present , many famous Arab and non Arab players live outside the middle east and play in Europe and north America. Just search for the word (oud) and I am sure you will discover there are many concerts around you. cheers

  • @AbeRaghad Yet you still get muslims trying to say music is Haram!

  • Absolutely spectacular!

  • nice oud playing!

  • ...an American stumbled upon this page today... paused for a moment in shock and awe while discovering something completely new to him.

  • @wylwrk glad you like it wylwrk you welcome any time to come visit in morocco just let me know

  • @wylwrk

yes, then invented a reason to invade and steal it no doubt.

  • @wylwrk the instrument is not moroccan in its origins ... it is mostly known in syria, lebanon, armenia, turkey and greece and some of the balkan countries. historically it dates back to the babylonian times ... then to ancient egypt and from it to northern mediterranean countries. i invite to listen to Oud plays from other countries.

  • @jhny8819 @jhny8819 This instrument is not from any of the other countries you mentioned either. It has been an Arabic instrument way before there was a thing called Lebanon. The Greek outi was brought by the Greeks originally from Turkey.Only western Armenia and the Armenian of the Middle East play the Oud, that is closer to the Arab world. The Oud became popular in Turkey only in the second half of the 19th century in the Ottoman period. What ancient Egypt had looks nothing like this.

  • @pstcontrl Besides, who cares really. Let's just enjoy this awesome instrument. God bless whoever contributed in its development.

  • This is very soothing!! Just Amazing!
