  • so fast

  • better graphics than xbox360.

  • Too bad this project was never finished. It could end up beeing one of the best coin-op conversions ever for the Speccy.

  • thumbs up if you noticed Rayden is MK2 rayden.

  • It's quite impressive, but is it so slow because its pushing the ZX capabilities as far as they'll go? If you could only speed it up about 2x, it looks like it'd be really playable.

Still, even as sluggish as it is, I'm sure it would have amazed people in the 80s.

  • Is this a home brew?

Whether it is or not, some people forget that for some of us IK+ and R-Type were new once. We can joke now, but the games industry is founded on such systems as the Speccy, C64, CPC464, Atari2600...ffs any system where we played a game back then and was wowed. [salutes]

8 bits, i honour you and all who played on you ;)

  • I thought they stopped making spectrum games in 1993?

  • I like the music x3

  • I know this is impressive for the ZX Spectrum and all, but jeez - I think the Game Boy port was more fluid than this (and the GB's technology was on par with the ZX, IIRC).

  • Finish Him? Can Sub-Zero perform his head rip fatality in this demo??? awesome video thumbs up :)

  • It's unbelievable... The speed of the game seems to be quite good! GREAT!

  • Looks like the gameboy version =]

  • Looks waaaay better than streetfighter2 for spectrum

  • Absolutely amazing! I never knew a game like Mortal Kombat could run this well on the ZX Spectrum! Very well made, I'd say! The music is really good as well! :)

  • ZX was terrible. I mean, a year after the MSX was released... and the Famicom, both with much better capabilities

  • Mortal Kombat 2 Rayden sprite. A real spectrum would not be able to handle what we are seeing here, this looks too good for a Spectrum.

  • @Carbon657 of course it could what are you talking about

  • @Carbon657 was thinking the same, not even a refresh tear for such a huge sprite, background too perfect etc

  • No Fatality? BULL.

  • this is not a true spectrum though is it!

  • Given the hardware, Wow,great stuff guys.

  • This reminds me of when I open a Keygen but the music is so bad ass I leave it open for a while lol.

  • many people forget that this is a computer made back in 1982. and yes, its epic compared to its possibilties. god bless zx spectrum!:)

  • @ravager1981

    Amen

  • @ravager1981 **** EDIT: and yes, this program is epic, compared to the "computers" possibilities.... god bless zx spectrum!

  • @ravager1981 **** EDIT: and yes, this program is epic, compared to the "computers" possibilities.... god bless zx spectrum!

  • @ravager1981 lol a real spectrum would not be able to handle what we are seeing here, it just wouldnt have the ram to be able to run this, this is a pc emulated spectrum that has more ram than the original computer

Buen trabajo . me gusta

  • Looks like two people acting out Mortal Kombat while being filmed by a Game Boy Camera.

Which, in my opinion, is AWESOME. :D

  • Is it really running on the spectrum ? That looks like the best 1 on 1 fighter ever for Speccy

  • The music kicks some serious buttocks! :D

  • If this was a little faster, it'd be even more amazing.

  • The music is awesome.

  • This would've sucked as an official release, would've been an unplayable, graphically shite clusterfuck of a game, like the Spectrum version of Street Fighter 2 was.

  • A fantastic Spectrum effort!Too bad it was never completed......

  • at least energy bars are colored

  • This music sounds like some NES games.

  • arcade perfect - even better than coin-op;)

ZX Spectrum! :D

  • @yamiharu84

  • ... never finished (;_;)

  • people should have just stuck to Barbarian

  • i think if this game had come out when the spectrum was still huge it would have gone down really well. i played this recently it plays and loo pretty good, theres is also another version of mortal kombat on the spectrum but with smaller graphics at world of spectrum.

    great video by the way

  • @locomaniacs1hmps

Yeah i think exactly the same, is a very good version and the best one compared with others MK games for the Spectrum, It really would a big hit!

    Thank you for the comment!

  • jesus wet that old sinclair music used to get right into my head, back in the mid 80s my younger brother used to play his bloody spectrum all the time, listening to the screaming ( my brother and the tape machine) as it took 20 minutes to load a game and crashed after 18 mins..

  • @26highstreet

    yeah, nostalgia!

  • Looks like the gameboy version to me which certainly isnt a good thing.

  • @mjdoomreviews

Yes it does, but if you compare both, this one has better graphics (sprites are bigger and more detailed, more graphic text, more detailed backgrounds, etc.)

If this port was finished it probably would be a lot better than the game boy version

    Thanks for the comment!

  • mk on zx!!! man great job,but you may learn a bit of playing mk :) even the frame rate is slow :P

  • Wll bad gameplay was mostly due to configuration, and I let the cpu win one round on purpose so you can see the 3 rounds of the fight.

And about the frame rate, based on the seconds from the timer, framerate should be ok (not sure if youtube screwed it),

the game itself actually plays a little slow.

    anyway thanks for the comment

  • WHYYYY WHYYYY NOOOO MY EAAAARSSSS MY EEEEEEEEYES!!!!!!! i' m DYING!!!!!!!!!

  • dudes, it's just Gameboy version of MK1, as GB had similar hardware to ZX the job wasn;t as hard as you are describing right now.

  • Expect ZX had a slower CPU, slower memory access instructions, no sprites or titles and no PCM samples.

  • *tiles

  • WTF? This cant be running on a speccy

  • As a C64 man, all I can say is "sweet!" Those sprites are enormous and beautifully detailed. A bit slow maybe, but a brave, brave attempt at the tail end of the Speccy's commercial viability.

  • When it comes to homebrew games like this, is the entire thing coded on a Spectrum or on a PC emulator?

  • Good question, I know the older fanmade games were coded on the Spectrum itself. But not sure about the newest ones.

  • Very impressive. Character detail is surprisingly good and the gameplay looks better than the GageGear version at least. Amazing what truly talented programmers can do with old hardware.

  • Yes it really is.

The graphics, the gameplay, the game is really very good. It makes me wonder if official ports for Spectrum would be so good as this one, and how amazing would be this game if it was completed.

    Thanx for the comment!

  • madness

  • madness?

THIS IS SPARTA!!!! ... I mean... MORTAL KOMBAT!!!

I had to say it XD

    Thanks for the comment... cya!

    Saludos!

  • wow it looks fairly good on the speccy i thought the zx was dead and they stopped making games around 1994

  • Yes it Does.

It seems like in Russia there was a lot of people interested in making this pirated games for the Spectrum.

The newest ones I have read about were made in 2001 I think.

    Thanks for the comment!
