Because rap and hip hop are 2 totally different entities in the industry and hip hop i'll never die rap is rap rappers are a dime a dozen these days but true MC's live on believe dat.
Puba: The girl is livin' foul/& that's without no controversy/she can make a bedspring/ sing a song of mercy/You can knock the boots/if you wanna spend the loot/but the way I heard the scoop/that's not the move, Troop!/Honey's livin' foul/walk longer than the Nile/you might think you're doin' work because she gives a fake "Owww"!... Video verse is different than the album verse, but it's still CLASSIC!!!
Lol! I feel you on that fam! But the reason I put 87 in there was because that was the year BDP dropped Criminal Minded which was a minor classic. But the BIG BOMB that dropped in 87 was Paid In Full the game changer! I remember I was 15 back then, lol!
1990 was another great year for hip hop. It was making a smooth transition. Most artists who were "new school" back in 87-88 were elder statesmen by now. With offshoot groups and MCs making noise away from the mother camp. For example Above The Law,D.O.C. from the NWA camp. And people like D-Nice from BDP. I love the 1990-91 era because most people sleep on it. Most either think about 86-89"Golden Age" or 92-96 West Coast "Golden Age" Pac,Snoop,Dogg Pound, etc.
@panamaniak Peace and lot of that west coast criminal stuff is the reason why so many are dead, locked up,homeless or just dumbed down. Whic is why I never paid much momey for west coast rap
except Paris, The Coup,The Pharcyde, FreesStyle Fellowship, and KAM. Can't forget the Lench Mob and the early Ice Cube
@gat333 I don't know bro because even though the STYLES may be different the content matter is basically the same. East Coast may not have been coined "gansta rappers" but we had quite a few: KRS-ONE (Criminal Minded) Kool G. Rap,Schooly D. I think the guys on the Left Coast STARTED out rapping about what they knew best and saw daily. After that genre started making money then EVERYONE and their moms lived in Vietnam where stray bullets were a "fact" of life. They got paid accordingly. One
@panamaniak I don't really get why CRIMINAL MINDED is considered a gangsta rap album. Besides ''9mm goes bang bang'' there was no other song in it with that context matter..and even this song was about shooting a drug dealer and his boys when they came knocking to his door..but i see what you mean with Schoolly D and Kool G Rap..but even when G Rap adopted this hardcore style since Wanted Dead or Alive and especially Live and Let Die they were still some concious songs..same with Schoolly
@basehead617 Lol! I feel you on that fam! But the reason I put 87 in there was because that was the year BDP dropped Criminal Minded which was a minor classic. But the BIG BOMB that dropped in 87 was Paid In Full the game changer! I remember I was 15 back then, lol!
Gotta be honest, I did not like Brand Nubian's first album. I think they really took off with In God We Trust---GREAT album. I liked pretty much everything they did after that. Even that schmaltzy Fire in the Hole wasn't bad--it's time for a new Brand Nubian album.
Damn, this remains one of my favorite jams to this day. It's amazing how well this, and all of the tracks off of All for One, have aged in comparison to a lot of the material from this era. It always puzzled me as to why the production on this album was heads and tails above anything found on any of their subsequent albums or solo projects. Remember when groups consisted of multiple solid MCs instead of just one passable MC and a few of his friends that he writes for but they still can't flow?

Classic timeless album. Holds it down being one of GOAT. If you're a hip-hop head, your collection is incomplete without this album.
