Good Grief!!! it's a movie!!. And a very good movie!!. If the Mexicans are northern or southern, so what? and how many people are going to know or care? And if the cowboys have their shirts tucked in are are clean shaven, so what, it's a freaking movie. The cowboys are suppose to be the good guys here. Lets enjoy the story and the music and not get all tied up worrying about northern or southern Mexicans or how clean their clothes are.
Saludos
The American Cowboy, even if you don't want to admit it-is HEAVILY influenced by the Mexican Cowboy-.Just look at how many words you guys have "Americanized".You guys borrowed vocabulary and attire. Hell, the term
"cowboy" is the Americanized version of "Vaquero". Cheers.
Americans were terrible at making cowboy movies. Always portraying them as good people, clean shaven, with their shirts tucked in. Segio Leone saw them and he said : "No no no, this is bullshit, Im gonna show you yanks how to make real western movies". Accept it, Leone knew more about the western genre than you did, and he certainly knew more about Mexico.
@FernandoLuis191 Leone never made a western this good. Whether they're clean shaven or well dressed i don't give a shit .It's about the story and the characters. He never got anywhere as close as this movie to greatness. Maybe you're a fashionista but you're sure as hell not a movie critic....that's for sure.
@FernandoLuis191 After second thought I've come to realize you're an idiot. Who created the great Westerns numbnuts? Was it the Italians or Spanish?...how about NEITHER. Here's a clue....think Hollywood?. Go finish up a fashion show critique and leave the movie comments to those with taste.
@jeffsor47 Listen, you dumbass. Realism matters, and you yanks were terrible at it. It does matter how the cowboy looked. You guys are a very goofy society, and the movies you made before Leone came were terribly goofy. Listen, you wanna continue denying foreign influences?, ok, enjoy. But that's what your country is all about, your food is German, your laws are French, your language is from another continent, your manpower is Mexican...etc. You guys are an unoriginal race.
I'm sorry but this movie is terrible. I agree that the music is great, and the cast is amazing. But the movie is down right dumb. Im Mexican, and these idiots mixed southern Mexicans with Northern Mexicans, THEY ARE DIFFERENT CULTURES.

@FernandoLuis191 ¿QUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why don't they have Yul saying, " Oh hell,if that's all that's holding things up, I'll drive the rig."? It has to be one of the greatest lines in movie history, and the prelude to one of the great scenes. And, frankly, it kicks Seven Samurai's ass.
This film was bigger in europe than the us [i think the director invested his own money and lost money] a guy from iran said this and wanted dead or alive were big in iran.
I've seen the Mag7 more than a 100x in the past 45 years, and I don't recall the wideangle footage in this clip at 0:48 - 0:52, especially of the table player to the left of McQueen, i.e. to the viewer's right. Am I right? I don't ever recall seeing this angle before in the film. Someone please add to this. thanks!
I do not think that we will never get to see again such a caliber of actors, script, editing, and a knock -out soundtrack by the gifted Elmer Bernstein,
You know this story is based on the original story of the Seven Samurai, many years later they turned it into a western!! LOVE BOTH MOVIES, all heroes to the oppressed!
bkohatl answered the question as to who wrote this music a few comments back but to repeat. The music was written by Elmer Bernstein for this movie in 1960 and was nominated for several awards. If you enjoy this type of music you may also want to check out some other films he wrote music for. He did music for over 200 films, many which have a similar feel as this theme to The Magnificent Seven. You may also want to check out Jerome Moross (Big Country) and of course Ennio Morricone. Check IMDB
