I thought quintuplets are when you subdivide a note by five, just like triplets are when you subdivide a note by three. So if there were an entire 4/4 measure of quarter-note quintuplets, you'd have twenty notes.
@mangowrestler yeah it is like you said! a triplet is 3 notes per beat and a quintuplet is 5 note per beat aswell ..count 1-quin-tu-pl-ets-2-quin-tu-pl-ets-3-quin-tu-pl-ets-4-quin-tu-pl-ets = 20 notes...... i know its wierd to play but sounds good
Adding the quick two bass drum notes (the 4th and 5th notes of the quintuplet) make the fill sound very quick, but not rushed. This this exactly how John Bonham played his fills. All he did different was 2 hand to 1 foot.
@ThomasMetal75 I was just thinking the same thing watching that. When he was playing it up to speed it sounded like the outro to "Rock & Roll" (to me anyways)
You should really think about posting a favorite quintuplet fill of mine, which is an old traditional jazz fill. Kinda like a "paradiddledid..." Right, left, right, right, left. Just a cool quintuplet thing to use around the kit.
do you use doubles on the hands and feet . what i mean is a double on the hands and when you go to the bass you use both feet? have you done that dude? because iv been working on that and i think its a great technique and with the skills you got brutha you got this man by the way good fill dude
another fun one to play with is RLLFF, i usually keep the L's on the snare, cuz i'm too fucking broke to afford tom heads that actually recoil...let alone sound good lol.
i like to use a 2h 2f 1h pattern instead... like floor tom, high tom, bass, bass, snare. its a little harder to get down what with the high accent on the 5 and the awkward hand movements, but once ya get it its really worth it. =]
It sounds like the intial three hand strokes are kind of a triplet feel whereas the feet are normal strokes. I can already play this, but I want to know if I am wrong if I write it that way.
Very nice, looks like a Yamaha recording drum set, what kinda cymbals do you prefer?
