Why are people so quick to dismiss the people who are skeptical of the Anthropogenic theory? I find it difficult to follow the case for AGW because so many of it's leaders make outlandish claims. Such as in this video with Al Gore, who claims a melting of the ice caps entirely within a matter of years. The consensus may believe in what Gore says, but it only takes one person to prove him wrong. In this case, the scientist he supposedly quoted came out to say he never made such claims......

Though I don't necessarily support Al Gore or his politics on the issue (IE carbon taxes) - the issue of polar ice is important.
Every summer, the volume of perennial (old, semi-permanent ice) has been melting. 2007 saw a new, sudden low of this old ice.
In winter, ice always freezes back to roughly the same AREA. This is not the same as VOLUME. - (IMPORTANT!)
- What Al Gore means is that this perennial ice will be gone in 5 years - a very likely scenario, based on the rate of it's decline.

Jenny, here is a few interesting articles. The articles refer to NASA's findings regarding solar activity and the DIRECT relationship to temperature change.
C02 and temperature has a reverse correlation according to the ice core data. Meaning temperature has historically risen about 800 years before C02 rises in correlation. Look it up.

Climate research has been going on for decades; long before Al Gore decided to use the science as a basis for a political agenda. Do not conflate the science with politics. I have seen the time-lapse studies of extreme ice loss. Deserts are expanding all over the world. Permafrost is becoming farmland. The continental US climate has shifted about 5 degrees warmer on average over the last 15 years.
Brief cooling cycles are natural and expected. Warming is measured in geological time.

Warmer climate species are migrating to more northern latitudes all over the world, because the yearly averages keep creeping up every year. I happen to be involved in studying this phenomenon. as well as climate tolerance testing. The idea that the earth is "cooling" on average goes directly against the palpable data and observation even in my own field of agricultural study. We are presently in a casual cooling spell, yes, but warming trends are far more frequent and more abrupt.

Arctic website Crysophere Today reported that Arctic ice volume was 500,000 sq km greater than this time last year. Additionally, Antarctic sea-ice this year reached its highest level since satellite records began in 1979. Polar bear numbers are also at record levels.

after reaching its lowest point in 30 years, the ice bounded back to near "normal". This winter the freeze has been even faster and greater, making the extent of the ice, according to the other main Arctic website, Crysophere Today, 500,000 sq km greater than this time last year. c-mon how can a logical person go for hippy ,tree hugger in disguse AG when we know hes in on the carbon tax scam and was part of the planning 10 years ago

Do you actually know that the scientist on who al gore had based his speculations about the melting of the ice with 75% in the next 5 to 7 years said that he doesn' t know where al gore' s projections are based on. The same scientist on which al gore is basing his conclusion is doubting the melting theory. I will just assume you did not know that.

Al Gore's "alarmism" is NOT "needless." He needs to get this legislation passed before CLIMATEGATE explodes into epic proportions and totally disolves the ferver driving this BUNK science. We have hearings called for early next year to discuss CLIMATEGATE in the Senate. The Cap and Trade bill has passed in the House but seems to be stalled in the Senate pending those hearings. The issue is causing problems in COP, as well. If Al Gore doesn't get this passed soon,he never will.

I am not a climate change denier I know that some of this will be real. but he was a politician for most of his life and he still talks like one. His sensationalism and a lack of real understanding about the facts on the ground make him untrustworthy.
