  • this one and hello my old friend are two forgotten gems w.youtube.com/watch?v=-miaJPykZBQ so nice to see so many ELO -Jeff fans here.,see ya pals.

  • If Secret Messages had to be a single album, why didn´t they choose the best songs from the planned double album ?

  • Sounds quite a bit like Macarthur Park. Simon and Garfunkel on synthesizers.

  • I know its ELO and everything, but for a second, I thought it was Roger Waters singing at the start :/ weird

  • Do you know if Afterglow is still available somewhere to get ?

  • @FinnMove It's out of print now, you'll be most likely to find it in second-hand music shops or online.

  • hi ive got the afterglow album. pm me if youre interested

P.S i live in the north east of england

  • When I listened to Without Someone from the Balance of Power album I was thinking what is the song very similar to that song in some parts. Yes, it was based in Mandalay ( then unreleased ). Do you agree ?

  • This song was the very first I commented in Decemeber 2008 when I joined YouTube. The great left- off songs like this from Secret Messages could have been released later in a new album or with Balance of Power as a double album.

  • Its always good to see someone put up subtitles to the music they plug. ^_^

  • I first caught this song and many others in 1994. When Afterglow was in a local musical library. I was amazed. These kind of songs existed. I thought the single album Secret Messages was in 1983 quite poor. In the early 1980´s pop music was quite low so I think the choice of the decision of that was made of that.

  • I really don´t understand that ELO´s best songs in the 1980´s Mandalay and Hello My Old Friend don´t appear in any ELO albums. Even in the compilations.

    Best of... You know.

  • Another great track

  • Still my favorite ELO song, by my hero for over 31 years now... no one can capture that feeling like Jeff

  • Do You Know Where I Can Find This Song For Free?

  • You can find this song on the album "Afterglow", a sempler from 1990 :)

  • Thank you very much. This song was a great inspiration for me last autumn when I wrote my memories to the magazine of my town.

    It was released recently.

  • The fourth side of the double album

would be great. I think the the double album will never be released. I hope I am wrong.

  • Great song! Very evocative and dreamlike. I think some of the transcribed lyrics may not be correct, though... Still, a treat to listen to! =^[.]^=

  • I noticed that, too... I think "children play" is probably "gentle glade", or close (I was never sure), and "dawn" became "door" ... random thought: the verses would be hard to try to play guitar with, in B major :)

  • The intro to this song is one of ELO's best.

  • I never get tired of this song.

  • This one is absolutely great

    I can say only : Listen !

  • I´ve listened to your great videos. Hopefully you will bring new less heard but great tunes

in the future. By Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood

of course but at the sometime anything rarity

    to these releated will do.

  • It has been a great pleasure to listen these

lost tracks of planned double album Secret Messages.

Mandalay and Hello My Old Friend are the best

ELO- songs in the 1980´s in my opinion.

  • wonderful song !

  • Awesosme!!!!!
