Damien sounds amazing with a band. Bell X1- amazing, Damien Rice- amazing, but Juniper have always left me wishing they'd just done a little bit more before they parted ways.
I don't know that they got a bad rap because they were Irish. There aren't many great bands coming out of Ireland unfortunately. But If you look at Rice's success, it is obvious that people who know about good music doesn't give a shit where you are from, as long as the music is tight. And Damien is a good vocalist and I think he gets a lot of credit for that.
I listened to this song as I was taking off from Dublin Airport to go to Australia - just a nice balance between angry and joyful. It's a epic debut single. Was then, is now.
Found a podcast of it around 4 years ago but couldnt upload it.... Its good to see the time when two of Irelands best artitsts worked together... Stupid record label...
bellX always got a raw deal....the international media did not give a shit namely because theay were Irish.....as has been with all Irish bands trying to find succes.
*cough* Thin Lizzy *cough* *Cough* Fight Like Apes *cough* *Cough* Dirty Epics *Cough* All Irelands produced are boy bands And yes I´m including U2 (although snow patrol aren´t bad)
Obviously a pop structured song of the late 90s is going to have boy band sound. also Ireland doesn't just produce boy bands Lisa hannigan, glen hansard and the swell season, mic Christopher, fionn Regan are far from boy bands.
Shite I forgot Fionn Regan and I haven´t really heard much of lisas stuff or any of the other artists you mentioned. Don´t get me wrong, I wasn´t saying juniper, Bell X1 or Damien Rice fall into that genre either. It was implied in my comment.
@Mick342 OK, I'll play your silly little game. From world media I know of The Pogues, My Bloody Valentine, The Chieftains, Clannad, Enya, The Cranberries, Virgin Prunes, Stiff Little Fingers, The Boomtown Rats, The Corrs, Van Morrison, The Clancy Brothers, Planxty, and Sinead O'Connor. And what about U2? The biggest band in the world? The only major band to sell out every show they played worldwide in the last decade, such as the 360° tour with the largest concert stage structure ever built?
@mickycisme ....a few more Irish bands known internationally ; Them, Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher, The Undertones, The Script, The Thrills, The Frames...for a small island country, Ireland has produced alot of great music that is known all over the world! Slan!
Nice one. I remember seeing Juniper playing this in the opening night of Tramco in Rathmines in about 1998/99. The split was probably inevitable given the different music directions Damien and Bell X1 were to take, but it was good while it lasted!
i love this song so much it takes me back to when i did my leving cert! could you please upload the single "the world is dead" which was equaly as good!!!! if possible of course lol
I really love how he sings "chaaaangiiing." God, so sexy ;)

the chorus sounds like a bush single, sounds kinda forced radiofriendly compared to say the verse

The first verse sounds like the song "perfect blue buildings - counting crows"

your powers of computation astound me. Is that your talent? You calculate your age from the year of a song. Well f*cking done
