On March 7, 1981 my soon to be husband made love to me for the first time. I was 17 years old and knew I loved him then. We married exactly one year later. Last March 14th he passed away. @taxpayinghorse When I read your post, I instantly began to cry. it was during the month, May of '81 that I met Natalie in European Lit, finding love that I had hereto missed in my High School years. I was such a nerd, but Natalie brought it all out of me during those last two years. She and I shared the last 30 years together until she died in a car crash, July 2009. The pain has been more than I thought could ever happen, and it is only in reading and responding to others that I now live.
Thank you for your reply. If you felt the way I did when I lost Clay, it was as if the world became less brighter and a more sad place. It was/is as if the world is a less happy and joyful place because of his loss. They say it gets better but I just don't see it. I have many other interest and that keeps me from wallowing in self pity. I work full time but do volunteer work that gives me so much fulfillment. Take care and God Bless You Jeff.
@taxpayinghorse It is cliche that it gets better. It does and it doesn't. It does when you engage yourself in the lives and needs of others, but the deep, cut will still hurt at night when you are alone and the memories come back in all their technocolor 'glory.' I wish I could give you a nice, neat, and totally positive message, but I can't lie. I have not yet returned to 'loving another' because the wound is still fresh, but I wish you only the best and God's blessings also.
What you wrote is EXACTLY how I feel. Esp....the first two sentences. You hit the nail on the head big time. My volunteer work at the animal shelter and my apprenticeship with a professional dog trainer has breathed life into me. But at night....or when I am alone...or when I see something that reminds me....or hear a song...lol. But they are good memories. Better to have loved (been loved) then not to have been...
