I think multiculturalism only works in a country with short history AND without a single unifying culture, thereby allows other cultures to coexist. That's why it works in Canada and Australia among developed countries. By this standard, a lot of countries are out of the question. The US has developed a strong sense of nationalism especially after WWII and Cold War, and is very keen to the kin-or-foe mentality.

What about Australia? Since WWII people have been migrating here and now, we have people from every country in the world. We are not all white, people came from places like Sri Lanka and Taiwan and then from Russia and The Netherlands, I think we are a perfect example of multiculturalism. @spiritualbully Nope, to become an Australian citizen, you do not have to know how to speak English, there are only requirements saying that you have been in Australia for a certain amount of time etc.
@spiritualbully There are many different languages in Australia and though the most dominant in English, there are still millions of citizens that do not speak English, and considering we have a population of only (approximately) 21 million, It shows that a large percentage of Australians do not speak English.
Canada. No terrorist's hate them, Not a lot of guns on the street. Not over crowded. rich in natural resources.Free health care and apparently they have the best weed in B.C.
@MultiHypocrisy so you're saying not overcrowded is a good thing? So if Americans aspired to have a less crowded and less welcoming of immigrants country like Canada, you find that acceptable, and not racist?
@spiritualbully Yes,not too overcrowded is an excellent thing.I have walked down the streets of New York City and there is almost no privacy anywhere. People are constantly bumping into you and the horns never cease to go silent. It depends on what type of people they let into the country. America already has a screening precess. If Americans aspire to be less welcoming of immigrants. It would be towards the less productive immigrants like criminal scumbags.
@MultiHypocrisy cool. so you're not one of those insane people who believe all humans are equal and all screening processes are bad. even if it wasn't towards "less productive immigrants" per se, couldn't overcrowding still be a reason to restrict all immigration?
@spiritualbully No, not "ALL" humans are equal.Everyone has their advantages and disadvantages.I do believe all "races" are equal it is just is based mainly on those individual's abilities. Overcrowding could be a possibility to restrict all immigration but we'll have to cross that bridge when we get to it.If i had a chance on getting a "Einstein" working for my team .I'm going to shut the door on one person to make sure that Grey haired fuck is working for me.
@MultiHypocrisy depends on what you mean by it. I think Canada works and America not as much, a lot to do with overcrowdedness and political correctness.
@BrokenTengu99 I meant, I believe Canada is very happy to have immigrants or multiple ethnicities , because they are currently not overcrowded or in a shortage of comfort space, resources. When Canadians have to worry about whether it's racist to require immigrants to speak English, then we can talk about whether Canada "works as a multicultural society".
I've lived in both Denmark and Sweden and I know not one person, neither in my family or among my friends who ever got asked whether or not we wanted this multiculturalism but everyone think its a fail.

@MrBr3w If you can tell from accents, then you're implying when they talk, they speak one common language.
Singapore is a successful multicultural country?
It has roughly 50% foreign immigrants, but ethnically, it's 75% Chinese
By the way, Singapore is the size of most major cities, and has only 5 million people, is it likely other countries can succeed without such conditions?
@spiritualbully The Swiss dont speak "one" language, this is the reason why you can hear their accents. It's because they speak different languages.
There are other European countries that have different cultures within a Country. Spain and Italy are good example. Italy is particular since it is a new country and most of its history it was under different rulers. Northern Italians have different culture than that of the South Italians though they have similarities.
@MrBr3w Sorry, let me clarify, do Swiss of 2 language regions (German, Italian) speak to each other? If they do, wouldn't they need to speak one common language?
Italians have different "races" as well. Some Italians from the north call people from South Italy Arabs, while south italians call north italians "germans". They have different food/cultures. Southerners generally have Siestas because of Spanish influence. They have totally distinct dialects. Italian language was "invented" but based on Florentine Dialect. If you put a Bergamascan and Neapolitan together, you wouldnt assume they are both Italian.
I live around Toronto, which is the MOST multicultural city in North America per capita. Vancouver also stands out in this regard. Canada is economically freer than the United States (see the Heritage Foundation Index of Economic Freedom) and has a larger per capita number of immigrants from all over the world.
I don't know how much traveling you do, but I've been to LA and its diversity is largely made of Mexican immigrants. Obviously you don't know much about Canada, since virtually nobody in English Canada speaks French. I'd suggest to put down your books and go explore these places.
@qtutoringhelps Thanks for pointing out the obvious fact and difference. LA is made up of a lot Mexicans who don't speak English, and English Canada has nobody who speaks French, how many who don't speak English, if I may ask?
I don't know what you're getting at. If you go to a city north east of Toronto called Brampton (which is in the greater Toronto area), I would say a near majority of the people there speak some Indian subcontient language in their home. If you go to a city just east of Toronto still in the Greater Toronto Area called Markham, the majority of people there speak Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin). You can definitely live your whole life in Toronto without speaking English.
@qtutoringhelps Ok, good. Now for the bigger question, WHAT PROPORTION OF THE POPULATION is allowed to live in completely Chinese speaking or native Indian language speaking cities? Less than 10%?
What do you mean "allowed to live" There's no law preventing them from living anywhere. Like Germans and Jews and Italians and Irish in early America, the first generation immigrants tend to cluster together in common regions for the same reason that English-speaking ex-pats tend to cluster together when they move to Japan.
@qtutoringhelps I meant, allowed to live as in "they have communities to accommodate them , such that they can be protected from forced language integration"
Japan is one of the LEAST welcoming of immigrants. So my question was, how many people live in segregated communties in Toronto and learn no English?
"... segregated communties in Toronto and learn no English?"
I don't know the exact numbers off the top of my head. There are a considerable number. If you mean literally no English, I would say not as many people who can "get by" serving food at a Chinese restaurant.
@qtutoringhelps BTW, you shouldn't care what I'm getting at if you have facts on your side. I can twist facts all I want, but I can't ignore them or deny them.
@qtutoringhelps Please explain what makes Canada multicultural, and what makes them successful. Do they have a large proportion of immigrants, do they have multiple languages? Do they welcome all people of all countries into their country and not ask them to so much as learn English or French?
""Multiculturalism in Canada was adopted as the official policy of the Canadian government during the prime ministership of Pierre Elliot Trudeau in the 1970s and 1980s. The Canadian government has often been described as the instigator of multicultural ideology because of its public emphasis on the social importance of immigration. Multiculturalism is reflected in the law through the Canadian Multiculturalism Act and section 27 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms."
Canada has the highest per capita immigration rate in the world, driven by economic policy and family reunification. In 2001, 250,640 people immigrated to Canada. Newcomers settle mostly in the major urban areas of Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal. By the 1990s and 2000s, the largest component of Canada’s immigrants came from Asia, including the Middle East, South Asia, South-East Asia and East Asia. Canadian society is often depicted as being very ...
@qtutoringhelps "Canada has the highest per capita immigration rate in the world, driven by economic policy and family reunification. " Can you cite a good comparison to other countries? And is this "official legal" immigration rather than people who simply walk passed borders without being noticed?
I certainly wouldn't say we've got it perfect, but Canada kind of stands out to me (but I could be biased :-) We do have some issues with immigration rules that are too lax in some ways, but growing up I took it for granted that the society I lived in (not to mention my family itself) was pluralistic. I've since come to appreciate it very much. It used to be more our major cities (Toronto & Vancouver esp) but it's definitely spreading. Linked a vid response you might find interesting.
@Tioliah I don't expect anybody to be unbiased. What are your "issues" with immigration? Does Canada welcome all people from all countries and grant them citizenship as long as they want it? Does Canada welcome people from Latin America or Africa without asking them to learn English or French? Is the government of Canada represented by multiple ethnicities?
"shouldn't leaders have SOME respect for what's popular demand?"
Well, it's not like there ever was any widespread approval for mass immigration from around the world in any country that has since been affected by it.
Ha! The Swiss people's party is openly anti immigrant and very rarely lets non whites get citizenship and even whites have to wait countless years to get citizenship. So you are right that was a bad example along with the reasons you gave. Robert Putnam a left of center professor did the large sample size on multiculturalism yet and found that the more diversity and multiculturalism a place had, the more isolation and untrust between groups and in groups it possessed.
@IndividualAutonomy when somebody has an answer, let me know. I know what ISN'T multiculturalism and what ISN'T preferable as a country to live in, I wanna hear something different.
Yeah I have looked around some and found nothing in terms of numerous benefits of it. Though if I find something I will try to let you know if I remember. I will be uploading some more videos on the topic here soon.
What they mean by multiculturalism failing is - "Islamic culture doesn't work in our society".. and this is true. The government just sugar coats it because they don't want to be seen as racist, or offend people.
The problem in the UK is that Muslims are seperating them selves from our society, and radical muslims are trying to force Sharia Law upon us.
This form of "multiculturism" doesn't allow for equality, it needs to go.
I think we can live peacefully with just about every other religion.
But people moving into our country must embrace our culture as well. We can't have 2 sets of laws for different religions, we can never have equality that way.
Islam's aim is to spread Islam across the entire world, how ever they must do it, they refuse to adapt to our ways of living, and shut them selves off from western culture. There will be civil wars in Europe, if we don't do anything about the division.
@PzoiNick Is equality necessarily a good thing? Do you ever consider that maybe it was equality which allowed them to not have to integrate to begin with?
@spiritualbully Real equality is a good thing. Living by a different set of rules than everybody else, and expecting special treatment, under the name of equality.. is not good.
@PzoiNick what is real equality? Men and women sharing bathrooms? Children allowed to drive? No age of consent? Retarded people allowed to operate on surgery?
@spiritualbully Well let's put those ideas to the public and let them vote. What you might not understand is that in Europe, Muslims are allowed to protest with hate speech against the country they live in, with threats of terrorism and other unspeakable things, to get what they want... and the government lets this happen. If a white British man were to do the same thing towards Islam, he would arrested immediately and probably put behind bars.
@PzoiNick yep. I understand the frustration of the double standard, and the politically correct crowd aren't helping one bit. I am not suggesting racism is the answer, but those who kneejerk against racism and ethnocentrism are no better than those who blindly adhere to such views.
If you put such issues to vote today, you might run the risk of letting "the wrong people" vote.
@PzoiNick but hey, look at the bright side, if we just give in, there will be no civil war, and even if there is, once it's over, we'll have peace, right?
@HuckMeHard I guess when you treat blacks like crap every decade why wouldnt their children act out.

@qtutoringhelps Please explain what makes Canada multicultural, and what makes them successful. Do they have a large proportion of immigrants, do they have multiple languages? Do they welcome all people of all countries into their country and not ask them to so much as learn English or French?

Google 'Multiculturalism in Canada' and click on the Wiki article. I'm not going to educate you through YouTube comments!

@HerraYar Is there a country that's been affected in a GOOD way?
spiritualbully 1 year ago

PzoiNick 1 year ago
@PzoiNick does that mean countries that are highly Islamic are always worse than countries that are diverse, but less Islamic?
Are you saying that there are GOOD kinds of diversity, multiculturalism which don't welcome Islam?
spiritualbully 1 year ago
@spiritualbully
PzoiNick 1 year ago
@PzoiNick Is equality necessarily a good thing? Do you ever consider that maybe it was equality which allowed them to not have to integrate to begin with?
spiritualbully 1 year ago
@spiritualbully Real equality is a good thing. Living by a different set of rules than everybody else, and expecting special treatment, under the name of equality.. is not good.
PzoiNick 1 year ago
@PzoiNick what is real equality? Men and women sharing bathrooms? Children allowed to drive? No age of consent? Retarded people allowed to operate on surgery?
spiritualbully 1 year ago
@spiritualbully Well let's put those ideas to the public and let them vote. What you might not understand is that in Europe, Muslims are allowed to protest with hate speech against the country they live in, with threats of terrorism and other unspeakable things, to get what they want... and the government lets this happen. If a white British man were to do the same thing towards Islam, he would arrested immediately and probably put behind bars.
PzoiNick 1 year ago
@PzoiNick yep. I understand the frustration of the double standard, and the politically correct crowd aren't helping one bit. I am not suggesting racism is the answer, but those who kneejerk against racism and ethnocentrism are no better than those who blindly adhere to such views.
If you put such issues to vote today, you might run the risk of letting "the wrong people" vote.
spiritualbully 1 year ago
@spiritualbully Let's just hope people start see what's really going on, and start to stand up and not feel so scared of being branded racist.
PzoiNick 1 year ago
@PzoiNick but hey, look at the bright side, if we just give in, there will be no civil war, and even if there is, once it's over, we'll have peace, right?
