I don't know why you think so but I think that Christian and Jarzombek are far more advanced as composers. Also WatchTower IS thrash metal, just with more prog/tech elements. About technique, composition can be amazing even if it's very fast and ultra technical. Paganini and Bach are good examples.

I know why you don't like him, maybe because his songs are way too progressive and technical and atonal. I think you should listen to Ron more often, I hope you'll find out how actually advanced and unique he is.

If you have listened to him carefully then you've noticed that he has some Jason Becker influences, and that he somewhat influenced Michael Angelo Batio. Listen to intro solo in "In God", solo in "Spontaneous", "Shotgun Logic"(the best one), "Technical Arrogance",

@Brainthrasher What makes Friedman and Skolnick so good is that soo many guitarists (including the aforementioned 2 you said) learn technique for techniques sake, and the end result, be it talented, just wants to make the listeners give up guitar, Friedman, and Skolnick are the type of guitarists that are GODS but make you want to practice so you can be as good as them, Skolnick and Friedman have technique that speaks to people all I hear when I listen to those guitar players is math no music
