The bowed psaltery I have never seen before. The sound is outstanding. Your other instruments sounds very warm and lovely. The Banjo remembers on its roots in Africa. I'm deeply impressed, from your canto too. Everything is so naturally.

what is the range of the mouth bow. does it go up higher than an octave or even a few notes, or does it rely on singing and the position of your mouth?

What a good question. Technically the mouth bow only plays a single fundamental, & all the melody notes are overtones created by the relative size of your mouth --like the jaw harp, the bigger your mouth (oral cavity) the lower the overtone. I've never tried to test the range, but I'm guessing it's a little over an octave. Search on "Buffy Sainte-Marie" & you'll get some great mouth bow stuff. She flexes the bow to loosen the string and get a lower note. She's the best.

Because of this video (and several others) I have been inspired to purchase a mouth bow but I wanted your opinion on what type to get/where to get it online (unless you know a shop in New York City). I'm not looking for an expensive one, but one that will sound good and can be added to my collection of abnormal folk instruments.

what tuning do you have on the dulcimer?is it dad?

Hey Rusty, Yes that's a dad, an octave above a full sized dulcimer. My string length is 16.5" so they can also be tuned as low as A if you like.
