to speed up this computer, switch out the dvd drive for blu ray, and upgrade my processor for home entertainment. Has anyone done this to a m9750 thanks for any advice.
Im not really a fan of this computer already. I cant even open microsoft dvd maker because the graphics card doesnt support it. The hard drive is quite small, and the battery doesnt last very long. the frame of it is very big, webcam is low quality. It does have a cool alien head on the front of it tho!!! haha. People don't buy from Alienware. This brand is complete crap. I don't mean to be a troll or anything like that, but Alienware sucks. I bought this same computer almost 3 years ago, and I've already sent it to Alienware 3 TIMES!! The first time it was the video card, second time it was the video card again, but when I received it back they had to format my hard drive and they FORGOT TO TELL ME!!! So I lost all my data. The third time it was the video card. Also the cooling on this computer sucks.

Be careful buying alienware. I own an m9750 bought it with 4GB ram only to discover in the forums that the bios has a limitation of 2.5GB. Its been a year the computer is no longer available for sale on their website to a bios fix for this huge limitation seems gloomy.

Gaming systems have to use Vista, since no other operating system offers DirextX10 (DX10). DX10 is a significant step forward in graphics power and technology. Vista's not great, but there's no other choice for DX10 until Windows 7 is released.
No, you don't have to have dx10. Use an older dx9 graphics card. And since you're using an old graphics card, may as well use an old CPU and slow RAM. If that's what you're looking for, I wouldn't recommend an Alienware.

thats why you buy the desktops, alienware laptops are very good and can run games like Hellgate: London, along with a few others... but this is an old version, the newer ones can run crysis but not as well as the desktops
actually it depends on the laptop and how well people take care of them... if you take poor care of a laptop, both the laptop itself and the inner parts (which by i mean defraging, registry error fixing and so on) it wont last long, if you take good care of laptops as i do with my desktops, they will last longer and up to 5 years

I wouldnt buy this specific notebook, as it is becoming outdated. Look into the alienware m15x, which is in the newest line of notebooks from alienware. The package basically comes with the comp, owners booklet, and a few goodies. No spamware is installed on the computer when it comes... A computer such as the m15x will run you anywhere from 2,500 (being the lowest configuration youll need to play games) all the way up to around 4,000. It really depends on how nice a laptop you want!
i suggest you invest in the m15x --- although this laptop works for very low end gaming, the m15x is better in almsot every aspect, except that the screen is 2 inches smaller. Better performance, a tad bit smaller,a nd more powerful parts.
For gaming, notebooks always lose. A desktop machine would be the way to go, if you want a gaming notebook you will be looking at spending a lot more money on something less functional, prone to overheating and hard to upgrade.

it is the best looking laptop with it's rubberized stealth finish. it has the best port location and most adundance of ports out of any of the the current 17" gaming laptop offerings, from any other vendor. it is very light for a 17" laptop. there is NO keyboard flex. the led colors are a nice looking cool blue. it's got a great lcd screen.
when you make a decision to purchase any laptop you must weigh all these factors along with the power of it's components.

You should probably spend ~100$ and get a 512mb 8600, until the 9series comes out and just buy one of those. Or wait for the price to drop a bit more on the 8800s, with the new GTS coming out that is better than the GT the price will drop so you could just buy a GT for ~150-180$
I just checked newegg prices, 8800gt runs for 260$ where the 8800gts g92 is 300-320$. I would recomend getting the new g92 if you have a mobo that was a x16 PCIe card slot. If you dont have the money the 150$ 8600gt will do you fine for a couple more years. I checked gothic 3's req. and its only 128mb vid card, so you might just have your settings up to high and needs to set most to low/off.
its really cool beacuse the m15x has a nvidia geforce 8800 gtx thats like the second most powerfullvideocard and besides you can cuztomise it with anything you want, but i'm probably getting this beacuse its actually more sexi than the m15x

Own one of these myself, good laptop for its time. Compaired to XPS this is slower, but its also cheaper. But more importantly it WORKS.
3 Friends have XPS and ALL if them have something wrong with them.
Now dell own these guy i suspect the quality will drop, but should still be worth looking at over the XPS.

1. u will never even use 12 gb of ram (i have 4 and the most i have seen used was 2.5 when i ran gta 4, object dock, sidebar, norton, etc)
2. the mac pro's hd does NOT have a solid state drive
3. isn't available with gtx 295 which has much better specs than gt 120 of the mac pro
4. a lot of the gaming controllers and joysticks will not work with the mac

actually it depends on the laptop and how well people take care of them... if you take poor care of a laptop, both the laptop itself and the inner parts (which by i mean defraging, registry error fixing and so on) it wont last long, if you take good care of laptops as i do with my desktops, they will last longer and up to 5 years

Im getting one of these in a few months its gonna be $2,024 bucks cause the Windows XP is a 100, 2 GB is another 175, the 160 GB 7,200 RPM is another 75, but what gets you the most is the warranty 3 years is 300 bucks but as in the industry always says its well worth it

I wouldnt buy this specific notebook, as it is becoming outdated. Look into the alienware m15x, which is in the newest line of notebooks from alienware. The package basically comes with the comp, owners booklet, and a few goodies. No spamware is installed on the computer when it comes... A computer such as the m15x will run you anywhere from 2,500 (being the lowest configuration youll need to play games) all the way up to around 4,000. It really depends on how nice a laptop you want!

i suggest you invest in the m15x --- although this laptop works for very low end gaming, the m15x is better in almsot every aspect, except that the screen is 2 inches smaller. Better performance, a tad bit smaller,a nd more powerful parts.

For gaming, notebooks always lose. A desktop machine would be the way to go, if you want a gaming notebook you will be looking at spending a lot more money on something less functional, prone to overheating and hard to upgrade.

i can see it is using microsoft windows i think windows is awsome for gaming and is a must for gamers if your not a windows fan i recommend linux or mac as there is a heck of alot less prolblems with linux than windows cough (BSOD) but seriously this laptop is awsome and i have came across it nice video and thanks for your time.

it is the best looking laptop with it's rubberized stealth finish. it has the best port location and most adundance of ports out of any of the the current 17" gaming laptop offerings, from any other vendor. it is very light for a 17" laptop. there is NO keyboard flex. the led colors are a nice looking cool blue. it's got a great lcd screen.
when you make a decision to purchase any laptop you must weigh all these factors along with the power of it's components.

umm, 8800 is a pretty new/nice card, no way that is the minimum requirement for a game, Maybe you read the suggested requirements...
You should probably spend ~100$ and get a 512mb 8600, until the 9series comes out and just buy one of those. Or wait for the price to drop a bit more on the 8800s, with the new GTS coming out that is better than the GT the price will drop so you could just buy a GT for ~150-180$

I just checked newegg prices, 8800gt runs for 260$ where the 8800gts g92 is 300-320$. I would recomend getting the new g92 if you have a mobo that was a x16 PCIe card slot. If you dont have the money the 150$ 8600gt will do you fine for a couple more years. I checked gothic 3's req. and its only 128mb vid card, so you might just have your settings up to high and needs to set most to low/off.
