all V-TEC stands for is Varible Valve timing and lift electronic control that was propbaly the first style to be use which is mechanical. Today most cars are equipped with Varible valve timing but call it somthing else like Toyota's V V T-i same thing but (i) for intelligence.
I didn't know formula used The V-Tec design in F1 papertiger426; futhermore the setup does not use hyraulically fluid. The system uses oil pressure and the computor activates a selonoid to lock the three cam lobes togther. Not only does it increase the duaration but it also opens the valve further which as you said sucks in more air into the combustion chamber. You know I wonder how many people really know what V-Tec means? They make a big deal out of it.
@Dan0858 LOL V-TEC isn't used in F1. It's not necessary since F1 engines are all about high end power. Usually engines were made for low end torque or high end power depending on the valve set up. If a engine was made for low end torque and you rev it high, it wouldnt make much high end power and it will damage it. Engines made for high end power will be damaged too if they always ran at low rpms. This is where V-TEC comes in. Allows engine to have good low end torque and high end power (:

As i stated again, VTEC was made to provide engines to have 2 cam settings. 1st stage was the low rpm. The cams duration and lift were not as high because air/fuel was not as needed as much -> Good low end torque. 2nd stage -> High RPM High lift and duration were high to allow more air/fuel -> Good high end power.

@c312eal the VK45 in the JGTC cars have done it, an NA 4.5L V8 making a little under 600hp unrestricted, and i believe it was 480hp with all its restriction on....we probably will never see that in a road car but the VK45 is the motor out of the M45/Q45/FX45

umm no youre wrong... the vtec system is hydraulically activated on the cam shaft when it hits a certain rpm it holds the valves open longer in effect allowing more gas into the combustion chamber. when the engine winds down springs disengage the rockers. anyone who thinks that any certain way to get more power out of an engine is a joke is poorly informed... vtec was designed to replace turbochargers in formula 1 and it did because it simply is better for that kind of racing...
in a way he is right because of the gas into the motor part but the chip part could be argued by saying its electronic which it is. so i guess ur both right your just more detailed
@papertigers426 VTEC was designed in (family-) cars to save fuel, at low rpm's it saves fuel, at high rpm's u have more torque/HP so u can overtake easier, that was the raison Honda put it in their cars.

@papertigers426 It uses oil pressure to slide a pin through the followers. Thus locking the larger cam lobe "into" the smaller "lobe followers". Effectively changing the CAMSHAFT PROFILE. There are NO springs used to disengage the pin, it is ALL pressure.

RB25 is an awesome motor but are you gonna put it in yourself or dish out hella cash to do it? If you have a shitload of money to blow then that's a cool idea but to me it's a waste. Using that motor you will have to change so many things in the car to make it be able to match the car's engine. A KA24DE-T with mild tuning can put down 300 whp. You really don't need more then this IMHO and it's extremely cost effective. Look it up on forums and decide for yourself. KA24DE is enough I think =D
Wow you already got it? Damn lucky you. So yeah if you already got an RB then just do some tuning to cap off the horsepower untill you wanna do more work to the rest of the car. The 240sx can easily handle 250 horsepower with just an aftermarket clutch. At 300 make sure you take care of the cooling for the engine. Stock transmission can take 400 hp. With a little money you should be solid with that RB for at least 300 hp.
dont get me wrong here. i like 240's. i think they are some sexy cars. if i were to get a RWD thats what id get. but a friend of mine has one completely stock, manual. and i still was quicker than him when i had my single cam d16y8 motor. only mods were i/h/AEM pulleys. wasnt faster by alot but i still was quicker. i dont know a whole lot about them. so maybe theres a much slower motor in some? Funny thing is I know someone with a turbo nsx with lots of good mods, I spanked him in my old turbo s13. Sorry to tell you but a gtr has way more potential then a gay ass mr nsx, those cars are lame and for complete geeks. My gtr is much faster then my s13 was so, I dont think the nsx would haev a chance. I haev a new car now anyway, 6 speed high power 180sx, so I could care less about honda, its clearly all about the nissan.
They did a test between a spoon nsx and a mine gtr, I believe the nsx came out on top over the gtr, both from very respected companies who tune cars ridiculously well. Go look it up, but I could be wrong.

Try going from driving only a 07 SI for a half a year then throw a Greddy kit on it. 2 months later you get rear ended and have to drive your girlfreinds Yaris around town for 5 months before you get a new car. Thats a sad realization of what SLOW actually is. I went from out accelerating the cars to pass to having to wait for the mini van to pass me to change lanes ha ha. @Crusher103 ROFL VTEC is in a whole new level compared to nissan's VTC. If you look at most of Nissan's sports cars, GTR, silvias, Nissan's famous RB26DETT all are turbos. Honda didnt follow with VTEC. VTEC is different that nissan's VTC. It's better. and nissan wasn't the first to use Variable Timing Valves. Fiat was. Honda had motorcycles that had systems similar to VVT in their motorcycles in 83. Vtec is a CAM SWITCHING system, VTC isn't.

umm no youre wrong... the vtec system is hydraulically activated on the cam shaft when it hits a certain rpm it holds the valves open longer in effect allowing more gas into the combustion chamber. when the engine winds down springs disengage the rockers. anyone who thinks that any certain way to get more power out of an engine is a joke is poorly informed... vtec was designed to replace turbochargers in formula 1 and it did because it simply is better for that kind of racing...

@papertigers426 VTEC was designed in (family-) cars to save fuel, at low rpm's it saves fuel, at high rpm's u have more torque/HP so u can overtake easier, that was the raison Honda put it in their cars.

@papertigers426 It uses oil pressure to slide a pin through the followers. Thus locking the larger cam lobe "into" the smaller "lobe followers". Effectively changing the CAMSHAFT PROFILE. There are NO springs used to disengage the pin, it is ALL pressure.

RB25 is an awesome motor but are you gonna put it in yourself or dish out hella cash to do it? If you have a shitload of money to blow then that's a cool idea but to me it's a waste. Using that motor you will have to change so many things in the car to make it be able to match the car's engine. A KA24DE-T with mild tuning can put down 300 whp. You really don't need more then this IMHO and it's extremely cost effective. Look it up on forums and decide for yourself. KA24DE is enough I think =D

Wow you already got it? Damn lucky you. So yeah if you already got an RB then just do some tuning to cap off the horsepower untill you wanna do more work to the rest of the car. The 240sx can easily handle 250 horsepower with just an aftermarket clutch. At 300 make sure you take care of the cooling for the engine. Stock transmission can take 400 hp. With a little money you should be solid with that RB for at least 300 hp.

dont get me wrong here. i like 240's. i think they are some sexy cars. if i were to get a RWD thats what id get. but a friend of mine has one completely stock, manual. and i still was quicker than him when i had my single cam d16y8 motor. only mods were i/h/AEM pulleys. wasnt faster by alot but i still was quicker. i dont know a whole lot about them. so maybe theres a much slower motor in some? IDK. i just wanted to add that. i dont want no immature arguing going on here on the internet.

Funny thing is I know someone with a turbo nsx with lots of good mods, I spanked him in my old turbo s13. Sorry to tell you but a gtr has way more potential then a gay ass mr nsx, those cars are lame and for complete geeks. My gtr is much faster then my s13 was so, I dont think the nsx would haev a chance. I haev a new car now anyway, 6 speed high power 180sx, so I could care less about honda, its clearly all about the nissan.

They did a test between a spoon nsx and a mine gtr, I believe the nsx came out on top over the gtr, both from very respected companies who tune cars ridiculously well. Go look it up, but I could be wrong.
Either way, I like both cars, a lot. Don't knock on the nsx just because you can't afford one.

First off I have raced a twin turbo nsx vs my old turbo 240sx, that I fully smoked the guy 4 times in a row. Second off if you wanted to be fair, put a stock nsx vs a stock gtr because my gtr is running 885whp now, will be finished after the winter and I would be confident that I would smoke any nsx probly on the planet thats still on street tires. Dude lets get it straight, i've seen a guy with a EG6, wreck a Subaru STi with all that traction it gets from 4WD. You can't call the STi a cheap car, but a EG6(2 door honda civic) wrecked it on a drag strip. Okay you think its fast on the straights but it cant corner, WRONG! EG6s come at a factory 900kg. Try going from driving only a 07 SI for a half a year then throw a Greddy kit on it. 2 months later you get rear ended and have to drive your girlfreinds Yaris around town for 5 months before you get a new car.
