quality lookin turtles. i have two ybs and one has white marks appearing on his back someone said this is too much protein in his diet.any ideas on how i can correct this.any recommended foods to lower his protein
judocraft, thsocom i think is wrong.i think that some turtles stay small.i think one is the musk turtle. because when they r juvinile they only get 2 to 3 inches.
hello turtle ppl....i have a question....i have to transport my baby (4month old) turtles home for xmas hols...the journey takes 3hrs..can anyone recommend or give me some advice on the safest easiest and cheapest way to do this...eg a small box or a small box with a hot water bottle? i will be travelling by car
none of them stay small. best bet of a smaller turtle is a mud or musk. not the cutest of the bunch but they are smaller than most. map turtles dont get as big, if you end up with a male map your lookin at 4-6 inches i'd say, 6-8 for a female.. its hard to say, its the luck of the draw on how big they get. nothing you can do about it. it could be anywhere between 4-10 inches for the better looking turtles. and if your really unlucky.. it can get to 12.. good luck! lol
does any one know if the black marks under the turtles shell ever fades away or dissappears? o yh by the i got a Yellow bellied slider...just wondering if her four dots will ever go away.
for my YSB terrapin's tank i got him a heater, uv light unit, heat lamp, and filter - just wondering if i would need the heat lamp since i got a heater which stays on 24hr so the water is always warm
You don't really need a heater for the basking area, just a normal household spot light provides enough heat and also the extra uva light rays that your light unit (im guessing you mean the long tube light) won't provide, it just won't last as long. BUT, they're like £5/£10 cheaper, so...

i dont have the long uv tube but i do have a clamp lamp which has a uv bulb, it says 5% uvb and 30% uva. my YBS has been growing quiet rapidly and yesterday i just realised that the hexagon shapes on his shell are moving away from each other and the border between the hexagon shapes on the shell are widening. is this how its suppose to be - how they grow?
im searching 4 sum 1 who is good at turtle info please help my turles smell is looking horrible it hace been peling horribly latly what dose any 1 suggest do i need to keep it warm or is it ok?
Have you got the correct temps in your tank and basking area? Sounds like your turt has a bad case of build up. Also what are your water parameters? You need to keep your nitrates stable or it could end up smelly!
@kajirobert u have to keep your tank at around 27° Celcius(idk in fahrenthing) , have a uva/uvb light on it all the time, have a basking area and a good filter, that's all i can suggest you :)
