i have watched and commented on quite a few of your videos. I am going to be one of the greatest animation and graphics producers in the world, bank on it. When I am, I am going to get you to do the music. Genius, watch out for my name, you'll be hearing from me.
@skinnylilwitch6 Thanks, this track is available for free download on my Bandcamp page, I can't post links in comments but if you google Diego Stocco Bandcamp you'll find it.
Do you have any instructional texts or tutorials on how to build your own contact mics like the ones you are using on your fingers to play the wet sand on the beach? If not, could you recommend some good resources to check out?
One curious thing: I am a physicist and there is actual research on sand dune sounds! Although I do not work with this, I can tell you that it is awesome. They make models for the sand falling in a dune, the effect of the wind, and with this they can study a dune by the sound the wind make when it pass.
Great work you have done. Congrats! Hermeto Pascoal would be proud! (he is a brazilian composer who makes music from anything... anything!)
@JanLeonard91 I agree with you, what I'm playing is not that difficult, but that wasn't the idea. The core idea here is to use sand as the main element and create the most out of it in a musical way. Glad you liked Bassoforte : )
Amazing stuff--Please don't think i'm arrogant for suggesting that you put some of those waves crashing in the track...or a new track with waves--I think we all know you can!
So cool! You should tottaly be famous or somthing! You make music with trees, plants, sand, everything! Now we can stop playing intersments and play nature!
Your music is amazing, your techniques are complete innovator, very artistic and literally with a natural sound. Congratulations you're going on the right direction.
Your stuff is amazing. Making music from normal everyday things. But what I really like about this is that the music you get from sand sounds a lot like the kind of music you hear from tropical places! God is amazing. He put the music in our hearts and in everything around us!
Seriously, the amount of originality, pure phenomenal and outstanding work you've done is incredible! God has sent the messiah that can create sparkling gems from sand.
I think these pieces should be labeled "textures from..." or "soundscapes from..." or "rhythms from..." not music from. I mean we can argue the difference between the four but I really don't care to so please don't debate what "music" is. I mean if he said "punk rock" from sand no one would defend this as experimental punk rock. It's not experimental music, it's experimental INSTRUMENTS. and yes, i wrote the same comment on another one of his videos. the tree one rocks.
I posted the above comment which is now attributed to "CommentsSurvey." What is going on? Hear more at diegostocco (dot) com. Incredible! Wonderful! Beautiful!

How are you getting those plucky melodic tones?
Argitoth 1 year ago
@Argitoth What you see me playing on the keyboard are tonal frequencies I extracted from the sand, mapped in a sampler as a multi-velocity program.
No additional sounds added.
Once inside the sampler I was able to extend the playable range and play chords and melodic parts.

"... The entire track is created only out of tuned sand tones. No additional sounds or waveforms.
I emphasized the inner notes of the sand grains and mapped them on a sampler as a series of instruments."
