NagisXtomoya-made me cry of happiness and sadness I still get a little teary eyed there story is my favorite. All of the couples are cute andi just friggin love clannad! 3
One episode of 20 minutes is way to short for this arc. It took me hours to finish this arc in the visual novel, and this episode feels like an animated summery.
I like the animation and how it presents the story very much, but it is just to short, should have been longer.

tomoyo got sad ending on tomoyo's after because Mr.Maeda who tended to kill someone on his scenarios wrote it. in fact, he admitted on public that he killed tomoya on tomoyo's after, so he got criticisms by tomoyo fans and he got deprresed that made him not to do his work for a couple of months. then, he came back to job and declared "I won't write someone's death on my scenarios from now on. I will never do it" on public interview of Angel Beats.
it means he guaranteed kyou and other characters' happy endings.
however, only kappei was not saved. Mr.Maeda has already set his prepared plot of kappei's death and kappei did not show up on animation, so he said he could not quit the plot. it also means only ryou got miserable.
this is the truth, and that is why there was no death on kyou's episode on original novel and animation, and her episode still does not include any death.
@rocas0000 oh I never knew that, explains a lot. Well it's coherent that the outgoing of the series adaptations is purely picked by the writer. Guess you could call it bad choice, but in a dramatic romance novel there is often a death and one of the characters has to endure it. I can understand the feelings of the tomoyo fans but the criticism is not rly appropriate..i mean writers need to have their freedoms, yes they have to consider the consumer but not be limited by them.

As it is a visual novel adaptation with many endings there can't logicaly be the 'right' on, so some fans may be more disapointed then others. One way to avoid this is to make an adaptation with many scenarios like Amagami SS, but that kind won't let you develop a deeper plot.
