Cost of the electricity to fill the tanks is of course a consideration. Like any new application, specialization of the components is critical to the success-- The selling price of the vehicle plus where can you get the air tanks refilled are big questions--NO INFRASTRUCTURE . In America, you used to be able to find at least 50 psi air at every gas station- Today you find tiny electric air compressors that take several minutes to top-up a tire--they couldn't possibly fill air tanks

A small calculation: To store 14.3 kWh @300 bar in 300 l (90 m3 @ 1 bar) reservoirs, you need at least 93 kWh on the compressor side (with an optimum compressor working on the ideal adiabatic limit and assuming a 100% efficiency of the engine, which is not in practice). and 14 kWh is a bit more than 1 l of gasoline. So this Negre guy is either stupid or criminal.

@shanghaikidx It may not beat the efficiency of carbon fuel, however it could help us overcome a lot of the limitations with alternative sources addressing one of the biggest problems, that being the storage of power...Im personally not opposed to the use of carbon fuels but I enjoy not being at the mercy of the suppliers.

This may be a stupid statement... but do you think that SOME people may be reluctant to purchase and use a car like this for the simple fact that they aren't that attractive...I mean not one of these super efficient cars are anything special looking. What is the distance this vehicle can run on a tank of air? Also, sounds inefficient to produce electricity, then send electricity to a compressor that that fills a tank and then the compress air produces mechanical motion - alot of potential loss.

It can go 200 kilometers on a full tank. It costs about 2 dollars to fill the tank with air. When talking about efficiency you have to remember the competition; the p.o.s. internal combustion engine with its massive losses through useless heat. Worse than useless, the cooling system weighs a huge amount. In addition every car I've ever owned has had massive and expensive cooling problems. I just spent 900 dollars a while ago to replace a gasket (the engine had to be taken off its mounts).
