i had a herpst too but i broke it on accident too many times so they gave me headgear. Then they gave me elastics (rubberbands) and since they are not glued but hooked i couldn't break them on accident as easily because they can stretch. In my opinion i find elastics more painful but they don't limit you much as the herpst.

they are these things that help your jaw come back in place, say if you have a over bite, those rubberbands help your under jaw come equivelant to the upper jaw. And yes they do come off.

I had an over bite but they put these huge metal bars in my mouth that attatch my top to my bottom jaw. Its called a herbst appliance. they are like having rubber bands i think.

no. some don't need to put those on but mostly they do. i have braces and those rubber band thingys are used to make your bite perfect or okay at the very least. the ones at the bracket are different they are called elastics.
