It pays to educate yourself if you own an expensive automobile. Read the manual on what the manufacturer recommends, it ultimately will pay off for you. No, I'm not saying go to the "stealer" to have your vehicle serviced all the time, because you don't have to. EVEN when it's under warranty. Get yourself a reputable mechanic who uses the proper parts and fluids recommended in your owners manual. Happenings like these are totally avoidable. Ignorance will haunt you in the end.
I hate to play devil's advocate but the only reason why your car manual says not to do these services is because they want you to return to the dealership.
Doing an engine flush could potentially do harm to the engine I understand that but working in these places is a bitch cause they want you to sell stuff to customers that they don't need!!! if your really that concerned about your oil use a semi synthetic or full synthetic oil
This summer when I went to get my oil changed the guy claimed my automatic transmission fluid was dirty, and that I needed a "transmission fluid flush" for $130.00. One small detail, my (barely a year old) SUV is a stick shift; not very common in my make (I had to special order it) so he must have assumed it was an automatic. I realize I'm female and don't understand cars, but even I knew that something wasn't right. I went elsewhere and now make my brother deal with my vehicle maintenance.
i've been a mechanic for 7 years and honestly, all I put in my car is gas, oil, coolant, brake fluid, P/S ect. Just whatever the oem tells me. I mean those fluids are certainly not going to hurt.
I used to work at a Jiffy Lube. The management tells you to recomend everything on the screen that applies within their milage recomendation, not specific manufacturers. I did see when there was a distric manager change a heavy push on sales. He was focused on bonuses. At my specific locations we never sold anything and not completed it, or if unable to like the fuel filter on the top of the tank, those tools wernt avalible we didnt charge them. I personaly dont take my car to any big shop.
this video is pushing it. All this video was about is that the employees claim that manufactuers recommened services, yes sometimes certain cleaning services can hurt your car, but it can also make your car run like brand new again, there are so many factors in mechanics that can affect the outcome. all there saying is its a preventive maintence. The reason manufactuars say its not recomended is so they wont be liable. If you want it done right Do it your self, other wise dont bitch
The first mistake is going to Jiffy Lube. GO TO A MECHANIC, not a quick lube place. Mechanics (such as myself) NEVER use solvents or transmission flushes as we know they will kill your engine or transmission.
just keep your engine clean with synthetics and seafoam and an engine flush wont hurt it. its all thoes idiots out there that go 20k miles without an oil change or clean air filter that this shit happens to
Hymm a corporation hiring stupid illegals that don't ask questions and will follow orders no matter what. That is called something.. oh yeah, Mafioso tactics.
I worked for this company for over 9 years I started as a tech in a shop and was promoted to a field trainer for 6 of those years and believe me this is not an isolated incident. You would be amazed at how many times this happened because employees are more worried about sales and money then doing the basics like they should be doing. Leaving this company was the best thing I ever did.
The person that got fired probably believed what he was saying. :/ Corporate probably just feed them bullshit to tell customers. The people on the floor most likely don't even know what they're saying is false.
Up-selling scammers. The Jippy Lube in my neighborhood recently installed a huge sign with LED lights that displays their services and gives you the temperature and weather in an animated display. They sure didn't pay for that sign by doing oil changes only. Learn to do your own oil changes, coolant flushes and all the basic stuff. I don't like the fact that quickie lube places never let the oil drain out long enough. I let my oil drain for about 20 min. before reinstalling the plug.
there is also the scam that they do the work that you pay for BUT YOU DIDNT NEED THE WORK TO BE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE! they replace a battery that only needs to be rechaged or they replace a fuel pump and there was nothing wrong with the pump. They give a list of crap that needs to be done to fix your car and 2 things out of the 7 things listed are all you need. why are there no fines for this scamming?
you pay poop u get poop. just invest on some good ramps and due your own fucking oil change and then u wont have to go to jiffy poop lube or the wal-fart tire and we suck express
..this happens EVERYWHERE...any business that will make a profit from you are most likely ripping you off in one way or another, you just dont know it....dont waste your time complaining to upper management cuz they are the ones that ok this kind of behavior cuz it makes them money...
People you do NOT need engine flushes. It can dislodge sludge and clog the vital oil passageways, starving vital parts of oil. It is your oil's job to keep the engine clean and it does a great job if changed on time. And you don't necessarily need to change your oil every 3,000 miles either!!
I HAVE A BUDDY THAT BROUGHT HIS CAR TO JIFFY LUBE AND THEY DID NOT TIGHTEN THE DRAIN PLUG CORRECTLY, SO HE DROVE AROUND WITH LOW TO ZERO OIL AND HIS ENGINE SEIZED. THANKS JIFFY LUBE!!!
stay away from jiffy lube, valvoline quick lube..... Heck ANY QUICK LUBE STAY AWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!! IF YOU WANT TO GET YOUR CAR FUCKED.
I think that we should have a special Channel called the Fraud channel and just run this story over and over for months on end. Unitl it ruins their business. I had a guy try to sell me this crap at a Shell quick lube and when I rejected his advances, he went and sliced my power steering hose. So then I had to carry power steering fluid with me and just add it every couple days. Get yourself a decent mechanic who is honest. Never go to these quick lube people.
im taking auto tech and ive never been told anything about engine flushes but ive been told fuel injector cleaners actually help....they open up the fuel injectors wider and clean them...i dont think ppl that dont know anything about this topicshould be speaking on it...and by that i mean reporters and what not...
@justjv562 Exactly. We're even taught in school for automotive service, about how to clean fuel injectors through an injector cleaner with solvents. If done properly, no damage should be done. Biggest concern would be damaging the catalytic converter. Again, this service CAN go wrong/damage parts but if done correctly, it will do nothing more than clean out carbon on your injectors.
As for the oil flush...can't really prove it works but I'd stay away from it.
@aparker44 best to use off car cleaner and most flushes are advised aginst by the manufactor and its listed on mitchel and alldata
those jiffy lube guys have there own shedules created by there own company and invented 3000 mile oil change if you want the change interval check your owners manual you will be suprised
what do you think 15k 30k or 60 all about.? Manufacturers do reccomen that and it is in the maual. If you dont perform then no maintaince is needed? Dealers offer these services also and they dont get in trouble. If they are going to do it to jiffy lube why dont they go to the dealer and do an investigation? Im against selling stuff that is not neeed but these are just maintanaince. This news report is wrong.
I have a friend who works and Jiffy Lube. At the end of the year they had an extra 55 barrels of oil....from oil on cars they never replaced and just let the people pay and leave.
man stop lying these stores can barely hold 4 or 5 and they have 55? Our store barely orders that many a year. So either youre lying just to contribute to this bullshit vid or your friends manager is a jackass. Either way not all lube places cheat customers I for one know we dont.
yeah i work for honda and fule services, trans services, oil flush's are not good at all just stick to brake fluid flush's.... every 3 years or 100 thousand miles
its simple change oil no sludge next engine flush does work personally do it every time fuel injection cleaning does work improves fuel economy amazingly and you should use full synthetic and the t-tech machine does work dont flush trans over 90,000 miles u dunce
Next time watch the video before commenting, dope! It shows the EZ Lube guy recommending a service, then shows the Honda rep saying they warn against that service because it harms the vehicle. Or is that too complicated for you to understand?
this guy saying engineflushes ruin the engine and you should not perform fuelinjection services is full of shit not only do they offer this services but they rip off customers by charging outragous prices for brakefluid and powersteering flush that are not even needed prices like 150.00 for powersteering flush that takes seconds to perform and cost of product would be a couple of bucks now thats a rip off maybe the media should be investigating this dealerships
yea i know dealerships are known for scamming too i work at one shop and it came in because the dealer recommended brakes and it had about 50% pad life left but jiffy lube does suck
Tlebofsky sorry that you think like that but there is some jiffy lubes that run like a dealer and if not Even better I you are right I i do agree with you on certain things but a injection service works better on cars that are neglected and use cheap gas you will see a diffrerance if you better fuel you really don't need that
aha...i know one of the guys that was on the video, he "was" a manager at jiffy lube...long after this lil scam too, they fired him over other shit a year later.
Go back to school if you think Jiffy Lube is a good place to work. Work at real repair shop making more than minimum wage and you will recant your statement. They use you young people as slave labor and laugh at you when they give you that pitful check.
You do not need fuel injector cleaner every time you change your fuel filter. And flushes are not recommended at dealerships. It must be a long time since you worked at one. Look in your owners manual in any car. There will never be any mention of an engine flush or fuel injector cleaner. Those products are used by people who do not do preventive maintenance and they expect those product to fix their wrong doing.
The documents they show dont show the honda letterhead and they do not have a tsb number listed on them. Also in doing services like this you are prolonging the life of your vehicle as well as doing other preventive maintenance. That orange sentra was riced out and most likely abused. There is no way to tell how often he red lined or raced his vehicle causing extreme heat to expand his seals causing them to fail.
why do u people wait til ur vehicles all beat up,never taken care or it or buy things for ur vehicle thats cheap then when its about to break u do cheap things to try to replace/repair it when u got to spend money to replace/repair whatever.for example if the car u drive recommends premuim gasoline and u put regular because its cheaper then of course things going to break because ur that dumb to not want to pay a lil bit more and wait til the end and goto the dealer or wherever..
Why doesn't Jiffy Lube (Heartland Automotive Services Omaha NE Top Management want to talk to me? Maybe because they know they train their employees to rip off the consumer. They recommend services that destroy your vehicle, just to make a buck
Well of course. But that is also the reason why Jiffy Lube tells you to ruin your car, so they can get the business. Best to do it yourself. If you can unstuff your toilet you can change your oil.
clueless people work there thats y some cars they forget to tighten the drain plug or filter.they have a average they have to meet and if u dont ur manager will get yelled at then yell at u and u wont get a good bonus check.and they dont make insane profits, they dont save as much money as u think.they make about 20 bucks a car for a oil change and at 40 cars aday which is alot thats 800 for the day,u gotta pay every 1 and the bills.belive me im not tryin to defend them but thats how they work
i am a ase cert gm tech.engine flushes are bad news.just change your oil every 3000 miles or less and there will be no sluge.injector cleanings are good,gm actually makes a injector cleaner, most gas now is crap and carbon build up does effect gas millage, but jiffy lube doesnt use the correct machine like dealers, goodyear's and firestone's do.a good rule of thumb for tranny flush every 30,ooo miles with regular fluid and 50,000 with synthetic fluid.fuel filter every 30,000 miles.
Beware going to these places when they're having a slow day. They have $ quotas and will try to sell you anything and everything to reach it. You're at their mercy until they decide to finish the job. At a place called Mr. Lube the guy failed to tighten the oil filter probably because I didn't give in to their 28 minute sales pitch.
I worked in an independent auto parts store down the road from a jiffy lube. They would send people to buy oil filters etc from us to bring back to the jiffy lube just to change their oil for a high price.
We heard stories from customers who said the jiffy lube techs (who were mostly kids with riced out hondas/nissans) who said they forgot to put fill plugs back on all the time.
These places make INSANE profits because they save so much money on parts...don't go to any of the quick lube chains unless you plan on standing over the technicians the entire time
It pays to educate yourself if you own an expensive automobile. Read the manual on what the manufacturer recommends, it ultimately will pay off for you. No, I'm not saying go to the "stealer" to have your vehicle serviced all the time, because you don't have to. EVEN when it's under warranty.

They recommend services that destroy your vehicle, just to make a buck

you realize when the dealerships tell you not to do it they only say it cause they want you to do it at the dealership

Well of course. But that is also the reason why Jiffy Lube tells you to ruin your car, so they can get the business. Best to do it yourself. If you can unstuff your toilet you can change your oil.

solution is really simple. do your own repairs and oil changes. I DONT TRUST ANYONE BUT MYSELF. i have never had a problem.

clueless people work there thats y some cars they forget to tighten the drain plug or filter.they have a average they have to meet and if u dont ur manager will get yelled at then yell at u and u wont get a good bonus check.and they dont make insane profits, they dont save as much money as u think.they make about 20 bucks a car for a oil change and at 40 cars aday which is alot thats 800 for the day,u gotta pay every 1 and the bills.belive me im not tryin to defend them but thats how they work

i am a ase cert gm tech.engine flushes are bad news.just change your oil every 3000 miles or less and there will be no sluge.injector cleanings are good,gm actually makes a injector cleaner, most gas now is crap and carbon build up does effect gas millage, but jiffy lube doesnt use the correct machine like dealers, goodyear's and firestone's do.a good rule of thumb for tranny flush every 30,ooo miles with regular fluid and 50,000 with synthetic fluid.fuel filter every 30,000 miles.
