I have to say I think its a great song great performance BUT it is so far removed from the original that its unrecognizable. Whilst remake doesn't mean play it the same there still needs to be an identifying signature to it and this doesn't have it. All that said as a stand alone song (forget its a remake) I think its excellent and I'd buy it
What! No way in hell this song is horrible - I hate to argue because it doesn't get anyone anywhere.. but as a big Thin Lizzy fan and JC fan I can say first hand I completely and utterly disagree with anyone who says this song sucks. because it doesn't
Hi jimmy I've met you a few times at the tribute gigs and your zest for Lizzy is amazing dude, im a massive fan too, there's nowt so bad about this tune, it's your take, Thin Lizzy were and still are the greatest rock band ever. It's an ok version But no twin lead solo lol Carl
wow, horrible.......really the only thing to say... and it's not that I can't understand the difference between "re-make" and carbon copy or different interpretation, it's just, why bother? they should just have used the same music and then, created different lyrics for it and called it something else altogether. but, please don't ever call this a remake, it's insulting to Thin Lizzy, and Thin Lizzy fans everywhere....
Most of you guys seem to want a carbon copy of the original. However, if you think of the best cover song you've heard, very rarely is it exactly the same as the original. Think about Knockin' on Heaven's Door, by Guns N Roses, or Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann. Both added their own twist or likewise changed the original.
That being said, Jimmy Coup is an excellent man and this song is phenomenal.
You have got to see Jimmy live, you would think you were at a real Lizzy concert! Even if you don't like this version, gotta give Jimmy credit. He totally kicks ass on stage.
wow NONE of any of these comments know what they are talking about JC is one of the greatest fucking guys in terms of being a friend to all and his music fucking rocks - I will not accept any opinion less than this.
Jimmy you're a fuckin champ! This is gonna get a million thumbs down, but people who can't read that it was a "re-make" of the original and the point was not to do an exact cover (which anybody can do), should shut up. Obviously it wasn't gonna be better than the original, but stop being musical snobs and thinking that your music taste is definitive, because it isn't. G'wan the Jimmy! Hope to see a session again soon!
It's a completely different song. Why even bother calling it a Don't believe a word re-make or re-do or whatever way you want to spin it. Whether I like this new song or not doesn't matter. What bothers me is that it's linked to the original.
I actually loved this version and I totally agree that Phil loves it for sure, great job Jimmy ...the weed lol! Greetings from Greece, I will message you for the link.
wow...the LOVE and HATE for this version is GREAT!!! LOL...look back at ALL of the comments and youll see its each side is quite convincing in their opinions.... if you want a FREE DOWN LOAD of the song or the CD that goes with it called "Go Down Fighting" just send me an email to jimmycouprocks@yahoo...ill send you a link...if you want to tell me how crap it is you can just do that here right??...right...Long Live Philo's music!...jimmy c
I'm surprised that statue of Phil in the background didn't jump off its pedestal and run off down the street, screaming, covering its ears in horror...
Ehhh... I'd love to say that it's a great cover but I really can't. It lacks all the passion and feel of the original. It's one of those songs that is suited to that real classic rock vibe, not the modern 'radio-rock' style.
I don't know... I cannot say I like it although I must say that the rearrangement of the chorus part is good not so much the verses (its only my opinion). But I do get what you are doing with this and its meaning.
I think its a great tribute to Philo's eclectic way of approaching his music.
Hmmm.... I love this pop tune, but I think it's a poor fit, both structurally and in mood, for "Don't Believe a Word."
Philo did love pop, and I think he would have appreciated the tribute. I'd have to say this is a bit like steak parfait: Two very good things that don't combine well.
Livingproof, the line between cover and remake is nebulous anyways. What's a "remake" - changing the music, and keeping the same lyrics, as they do here? The most faithful "covers" necessarily change the music also.
So cover, remake, whatever, let's call it a "version". Doesn't matter. My point is ONLY that this has NOTHING to do with the Lizzy song - not even in spirit (it was a brutally dark song), only some words. This is a new song - theirs. Don't say it has anything to do with Lizzy.
I know Jimmy - he is passionate about Philo and his music. Sure, this is his individual take on a Philo song - but to say it is a "kids cartoon theme" is an insult to Jimmy, to Philo, and to Lizzy fans worldwide.
I'm aghast at some of the comments here - maybe because I know Jimmy, Brian Grace and co, I find it hard to take without saying something in their defence. They are decent genuine guys - the insults on here make me so angry.
Anyone who sticks up for this load of garbage really needs to be re-educated about music. One of Lizzy's most beautiful songs and you've just ruined it by turning into a kids cartoon theme. Fucking horrible.
Haha, WTF, Sounds like a Christian Rock band have decided to do a Lizzy cover, Fair play to them and they seem like nice guys but its that kind of music where you know that none of the band have never entered deep into other states of mind for inspiration. Comparing their style to Phil's woud be like comparing the Beatles 'I wanna hold you hand' to the Beatles 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely hearts club band' if you know what I mean?
OMG!!That has to be the worst reworking EVER! They sucked the soul right out of that song. I don't think Mr. Lynott (God Rest his Soul) would appreciate his song was turned into MatchBox 20 drizzle.
I think I feel ill. I've never heard such a classic song stripped of all it's soul, guts and beauty, like I have just heard and witnessed. Phil's statue is gonna hunt you down in the middle of the night.
New, fresh, not Lizzy but great.
Totally adore the hints to the "Old Town" -video! :)

That's great Jimmy, crap all over this great song. WTF?
You took a song in a minor key and played in a major key, and now it sounds like the theme song to FRIENDS.
You really removed the balls from this song. Bollocks.
I really wish I didn't have to be so harsh but it's the truth. Fuck.
