How do water meters with a remote mechanical register work? Is there a little magneto in the meter to make electrical pulses to drive the counter? Battery in the remote register and a reed switch in the meter? In my area back before they gone with AMR the water meter is inside the house, but there is remote register outside the meter reader uses. Every once in a while the reader has to check the meter inside the house to see if the two were in sync.
@ihatespam1977 Usually a small magnet is on the decimal wheel which operates a reed switch which provides pulses to an external register or data logger.
This can be connected up to an AMR system for remote meter reading.
The registers have to be checked once a year for correct syncing
You ha a very nice garden, your place is very green and beautiful place, thank for making the video after everything, that is a very nice mechanism in that second meter, I think I might get a mechanical one off eBay, i don't like the new digital ones, thank you very much, for dedicating the video to me and for all the excellent information over the last months on meters and every thing else
@mrmatt2525able Thank you, I don't like any meters with LCD displays, cheap and nasty and always issues with back up batteries or displays failing in wet hot or damp conditions.

I'm envious of your southern hemisphere summer, while we're getting all the snow and ice up here in America!

Respond to this video... The impeller drives the register via a magneto coupling.
In the old meter video the whole gear train in submerged in water.
