  • Taut little thriller, a nice edginess the whole way through. Thanks for the great post. I have many Hitchcock movies, but not this one. If I get this, and Shadow of a Doubt, it'll make about 13, and that's all I want of his I believe.

  • Oh, I want to see this film badly.

  • This is a great movie. Thanks for the clip.

  • this is my fav hitchcock movie wonderfull movie

  • unusually estimulatin...

  • i know this is generally not highly regarded among hitch fans, but i happen to love this film as one of my all time favorite hitch movies.

from the script to the actors to the direction, i just love this from start to finish!

  • Isn't the only cut at the beginning when the guy gets murderd?

  • Fantastic film. Just watched you can really see where Kubrick gets his inspiration from. TUNE!

  • I love the scene when Rupert is like interogating Phillip while hes playing piano and as Phillip becomes mroe and more tense he speeds up his playing considerably and the metronome becomes faster =D

    Genius

  • Alex i followed your track for a while, thinking that maybe you had some more videos of the classics but i found videos of your cute girlsfriends. Nice video. Thanks.

  • I don't have a large library of movies, or I would put up more. I was only trying to put up what I didn't see on here as well. I was just rtying to fill the gaps, so to speak.

Maybe I'll put up some The Great Escape or Stalag 17 if I don't see any.

  • Yes, the Great Escape pleez.

  • Great quality for a 1948 film

  • One take! One take people

  • actually there are a few cuts in the movie, there is one in this clip. I heard he reshot the ending as well. It was still a feat.

  • no. it's just an illusion of one take. but there were a couple of takes. the camera just wasn't moved during the cut.

  • There are actually NINE cuts in Rope (four of which are masked and the other five are direct cuts.) Film came in rolls of 1000 feet which equals 11 min. and 6 sec. You clearly haven't watched the film. You should, it's brilliant.

  • this film should be watched alone at dusk as the sun starts to go down... i so felt like i was right there in that room... wonderfull classic.

  • One of the greatest Hitchcock films that somehow manages to go overlooked. The tension among characters is amazing.

  • Oh, and Vertigo xD

  • I'm a media student studying at Southend-on-Sea college, and over the years, I've watched some of Hitchcock's movies, he's now become my favourite film director, the way he set out his films, camera shots, everything about his films are amazing! Psycho, Torn Curtain, The Birds and Rope are my favourite movies by him =]

  • This is certainly one of Hitchcock's most udnerrated films. The direction alone is brilliant, with it being done with no 'obvious' cuts, but the suspense, and dialogue is also classic.

  • To the author, "Isn't bad for an older flick"? Are you retarded or something?

  • Actually I run into alot of youngsters that don't like anything from before 1990, so I had to sell the younguns with that preface. Cuz the movie is worth watching.

  • i love how the film goes from the day to night transition throughout. dont know why, but for me it makes the movie seem that much better and atmospheric.

  • This is without a doubt one of Hitchcock's best suspense films!

  • they don't call hitchcock the master of suspense for nothin. taut thriller. hitchcock is the only one who can make a slow moving movie interesting enough to continue watching.

  • haha philip

    "what do you mean strange!?"

"cat and mouse cat and mouse!!"

don't get me wrong, i love this movie, but sometimes philip cracks me up.

  • Yeah Farley Granger can do jittery, no doubt about that! Incidentally, Jimmy Stewart was payed $300,000 for this film!!!

  • "the rope" is one of the most interesting and somewhat scary movie of Hitchcock, i consider it may have been shown at theater scenes as well,

albeit the whole movie scenes are seen in the same place, a room, it would be quite difficult to scene it at theaters.

  • Excellent Hitchcock film. Like the rope used to kill the boy, things get TIGHTER AND TIGHTER with the suspense.

  • This is one of the most powerful, amazing films I've ever seen. It keeps the tension through the entire production, and is also a detailed character sketch. Absolutely phenomenal, Hitchcock still remains the Master of Suspense.

  • This seriously is an incredible movie. I've seen it several times and the acting, directing and everything really is just amazingly well done.

  • Search: "bside confession" for a film shot from 11 different cameras simultaneously. Inspired by Rope and other Hitchcock films. Look on right hand toolbar to find how you can get a copy of the film free.

  • You'd have to watch the entire film to get the full effect. Definitely check it out!

  • wow, that film would have had to been tough stuff for the actors in it..good thing Hitchy put vrtern actors in it. This looks like a very good film!

    Thanks for posting it!!!

  • The cut's reason are for how long the rolls of celluloids was, only for that, no other......really a masterpiece of montage

  • The reason it is uncut is because Hitch filmed in one continuous sequence ... no breaks in the action .... and I daresay, a first for cinematography ... jc

  • It isn't uncut, but it has least amount of cuts in it than any movie I have seen. There is one cut in this clip. I know it was a first, that's why I respect this film.

  • Only 9 cuts on entery film
